CHAPTER XXI: MENATO SANCHEZ
"We've arrived sir!" Menato said to his boss opposite him in the carriage.
"Excellent!" The boss simply answered. "Has the client arrived yet?" The boss continued.
"No Sir!" Menato answered. "We're a bit early my Lord."
"You know what to do right?" The boss made sure.
"Of course my Lord." Menato blankly answered.
"Now go! Live me be!" The boss ordered.
Menato simply nodded and exited the carriage.
Menato Sanchez was a short, skinny young beastkin. He had black bushy hair, a pair of long black wolf ears and a bushy long tail. The back of his hands and back were covered in a black fur. Even though he was a beastkin, he wasn't build like the rest. He was bred to be so by the Okutake family.
A family of assassins and mercenaries genius throughout the south of the Ancient Mutate Forest.
Menato was bred for speed. No one in all of Rostalio was even close to his speed. The speed was enhanced by his unique physiology and canine specialty. He was always in Light leather armour vest and specially designed pants are that are designed to improve his speed. A metal brace on his neck signified his status as a slave of the Okutake family.
He proceeded to walk out of the carriage. The carriage was one of two. The front housed the servants and supplied & equipment. It was about twice the size of the second but way cheaper. The carriages were stopped in the ruins of an ancient city. Stone walls that crumbled around and covered in vines and green moss like grass. Menato walked to the front of the front carriage of the servants.
"Regato!" He called. Suddenly a tall bulky lion beastkin in heavy metal armour.
"What's going on?" The big man asked on a deep grisly voice.
"We need to secure the perimeter before the client arrived!" Menato casually answered.
"Understood!" Regato said and headed for the north of the ruins.
"Renato!" Menato called again. Another beastkin, bull kin, in a stocky build jumped out. "Benato!" Menato called again. Another bull beastkin of a similar build jumped out. "We need to secure the perimeter before the client arrives! Regato will take the north. Benato you take the south, Regato will head for the east. I will take the west, the client is to arrive from the west!" He ordered. The two simply nodded and went in their specific directions. Menato did like wide and headed west.
Some time later, on the west end of the ruins was a giant stone gate covered in vines. On top of it stood a certain Menato as he watched out on the edge of the forest just 10 meters away from the gate. For a good 10 minutes he stood on top of the gate motionless.
Listening, smelling and scanning for any abnormalities within his designated area. Like any beastkin his senses were greatly enhanced compared to humans and elves.
Just then he heard footsteps in the jungle. Not human footsteps but horse footsteps. They continued to approach fast as Menato readied himself. Soon the horse ran out of the jungle with a person in dark robes riding it. The rider rode up to the entrance of the gate before stopping. The rider looked up at Menato stop the gate. He proceeded to pull of his told to reveal an elderly man with Gray hairs.
"Do you work for the Okutake family!?" The old man asked quickly. He seemed to be in a hurry.
"Are you the client!?" Menato asked. Remaninh as calm and collected as always.
"Indeed! I believe the password was 'Menace Serum'!" The old man continued to pant and breath heavily.
"Follow me!" Menato said and jumped down from the gate. The old man rose in as they went deeper into the ruins.
Sometime later the old man sat in the carriage with the boss.
"You must depart now! Time is of the essence!" Demanded the old man.
"So they have departed already?" The boss asked.
"Yes! A few hours ago! Helena must be eliminated before she gets to the fort!" Explained the old man.
"What of this boy you mentioned?"
"He's just a newbie. He might be strong but it's nothing you can't handle!"
"Indeed! You mentioned he has no magic?"
"I scanned him myself! Not a single drop of mana! You can eliminate him as well!"
"You seem quite troubles by this not Merus." The old man was visibly shaken by the statement.
"He's sleeping with my niece! I don't care what you have to do, just make him suffer!"
[Author's Note: This marks the end of volume 1. There will be a slight hiatus before volume 2 starts. Maybe a week or two, depends on my schedule. Volume 2 is more than twice as long and the chapters are considerably longer too. Volume 2 is more action and slower paced a few chapters. Most of it Eto is involved in turmoil from his decisions in the first few chapters of the second volume. As I mentioned before, volume 1 acts kind of as a prologue to the story. Volume 2 is where things get more interesting.
Volume 2 is already progressing on my Patreon and volume 3 is in the planning phase. I'm still trying to determine the end of volume 2 and how to proceed from there on.]
