“You certainly aren’t afraid of risks, Mr. McCabe,” Benning said, pushing more chips to the middle of the table.
“Isn’t that the definition of gambling?” Todd matched Benning’s chips and added a few of his own.
“How did you like the town? Find everything you needed?” Benning asked. It was an odd question. Nick bit his lip when he saw how the air around Benning changed imperceptibly.
Using one finger, he lightly rubbed the back of Todd’s leg twice. Not only was he bluffing about his hand, he was up to something else as well.
Leaning back in his chair, Todd gave Benning a steady look. “We weren’t lookingfor anything, but thanks for asking.”
Leo hovered near the table a foot or so back from Benning and Snow. He’d been moving about the room, but never far from their table and never standing near anyone else.
Benning shifted in his chair and leaned to one side. “Everyone is looking for something. Isn’t that right, Mrs. Larue?”
