CEO Anozie Olaedo never imagined her thriving empire would collapse, least of all due to her ex-fiancé’s betrayal. Left with a broken heart, a shattered reputation, and few options, Olaedo reluctantly agrees to a marriage of convenience with Arinze Chibuzor, a cold, calculating business mogul. For him, it’s a strategic move. For her, a lifeline. Their deal is simple: no love, no intimacy, just mutual benefit. But as they navigate high-stakes business deals and navigate the storm of family drama, cracks begin to form in their carefully constructed walls. Beneath Chibuzor’s icy exterior lies a man who sees through Olaedo’s guarded facade, and against their will, a spark ignites. Then, a shadow from Olaedo’s past reemerges, a man she thought long dead. With him comes a truth that upends her world, revealing a legacy of unimaginable power and responsibility she never asked for. Caught between a destiny she didn’t choose and a love she never expected, Olaedo must decide: will she rise to meet the truth of her origins, or will it destroy the fragile relationship she’s built with Chibuzor? When the past collides with the present, and hearts hang in the balance, can love survive the ultimate test?
She took a deep breath, walked to the table, and sat down beside him, the weight on her shoulders suddenly lighter.
Chibuzor watched her settle before speaking, his tone casual but laced with meaning. "By the way," he began as he skillfully piled her favorite dishes onto her plate, "regardless of that whole argument being a show for the nurses, I wasn't exactly thrilled about the clothes thing."
Olaedo stiffened slightly, but Chibuzor continued before she could respond. "I get it, Olisa's like a big brother to you now, and there's nothing going on between you two. I know that. But..." He paused, his sharp gaze meeting hers, "we have to be very careful. If the media catches wind of something like that, even if it's innocent, they'll twist it into a scandal. And if that happens, all the work we've put into this act? It'll be over. We'll be done for."
His words were firm, but there was no anger in his voice, only caution and concern.
Olaedo nodded seriously, still shaken by the revelation that they had been watched the entire time they were outside. 'This is a harsh reminder, I really need to be more careful from now on,' she resolved internally, her mind racing with thoughts about how to avoid any slip ups.
The tension from earlier slowly faded as the two sat down to eat. They kept their conversation casual at first, but as the meal progressed, they fell into a comfortable rhythm, discussing everything from work to random anecdotes about the past. For a brief moment, it felt normal, like they weren't pretending to be a couple, but actually building something real.
Meanwhile, downstairs in the hospital cafeteria, Olisa glanced at his watch and frowned. He had been waiting for quite a while, but there was still no sign of Olaedo. 'Where could she be?' he wondered. Just as he reached for his phone to call her, it buzzed in his hand.
It was the hospital where he worked, summoning him urgently for an emergency. Duty called.
Olisa let out a small sigh, then quickly typed a text message to Olaedo
"Are you alright? I waited, but I've been called to the hospital. Please eat without me and stop worrying. Let's catch up later."
Hitting send, he grabbed his things and dashed out of the cafeteria, his thoughts already shifting to the critical situation waiting for him back at work.
But as soon as he was gone, a woman seated in a dimly lit corner of the cafeteria smirked. She pulled out her phone, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she sent a message to someone upstairs.
"He has left the hospital, sir."
With that, she pocketed her phone and calmly sipped her drink, her expression unreadable.
The woman tucked her phone back into her pocket and walked out of the cafeteria, her steps light with satisfaction. She couldn't help but swoon inwardly at the thought of how much the boss adored his wife. To go as far as creating a fake emergency just to remove even her adopted older brother from the scene? That's love on another level.
Upstairs, Chibuzor's phone chimed softly. He excused himself from the table, pulling it out for a quick glance. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he read the message. With a small nod, he slipped the phone back into his pocket, clearly pleased.
The plan had worked perfectly. His team had been on standby, waiting for Olisa to make any other move toward Olaedo. The moment Olisa tried to contact her, they called him with a fabricated emergency, ensuring his swift exit from the hospital. It was all going according to plan.
It was petty of Chibuzor, considering he knew Olisa would never betray him. The man was like a big brother to Olaedo, and Chibuzor respected that. But he couldn't help himself. The thought of someone else taking up space in her life, even platonically, stirred something irrational within him.
Meanwhile, at Prestige Hospital, Olisa burst into the medical team's deliberation room, expecting to find chaos. Instead, the room was empty. Frowning in confusion, he pulled out his phone and immediately dialed the person who had contacted him earlier.
"I'm here," he said, his voice edged with concern. "What's going on? Where is everyone?"
The voice on the other end stammered awkwardly. "Uh… Doctor Olisa, I think there's been a mistake. The patient was stabilized before you arrived, so the team has dispersed…"
Olisa sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. "And no one thought to update me?"
The resident on the other end of the line was sweating buckets as he tried to maintain a calm tone. "I'm sorry sir. They said it was… uh, a false alarm, sir. Wrong information from the internal medicine team. I, uh, told the others not to come over. I'm sorry I couldn't call you before you arrived, I was busy handling it."
Olisa frowned slightly, almost convinced by the explanation, but the shakiness in the man's voice made him pause. Something felt off. Narrowing his eyes, he pressed further, his tone sharp. "What exactly did you say was the emergency again?"
The resident stuttered, but before he could respond properly, a crackling sound echoed through the line. Shhhhhhjjjj.
"He-hello? Sir? I… I can't hear you clearly!" the man stammered, his voice rising in feigned panic. "You know what? Let's discuss this another day. Bye!"
Tu tu tu.
The line went dead before Olisa could get another word in. His grip on the phone tightened as he stared at it in disbelief. Something was definitely going on here. That explanation was far too suspicious.
Still frowning, he turned on his heel, already planning to head back to the hospital. His mind was set, he needed to be there with Olaedo. Whatever this "emergency" was, it felt more like a setup, and he wasn't about to leave her alone for too long.
Olisa stormed out of Prestige Hospital, irritation etched into his features.
