A semblance of calm settled over Silas as Joseph's words penetrated the fog of despair. A chilling realization replaced the emotion. In his blind rage, he had neglected to consider the very real danger Esme might face if she stayed with him. Joseph's reminder struck a chord and calmed him instantly.
"You are right," Silas conceded finally, a defeated nod accompanying the words. "She's safer away from me."
"Exactly," Joseph affirmed, relief flickering in his eyes. "For now, focus on the challenges at hand. Speaking of which, I contacted Dr. Jay." He revealed the reason for his visit. "He has a busy schedule, but he will be attending a medical conference here in two weeks. We can talk to him at the time."
"Two weeks!" A flicker of impatience sparked in Silas's eyes. Two weeks felt like an eternity when he craved an immediate solution. "Is he that busy?"
