Silas didn't even spare him a glance. His attention was laser-focused on the path to the third floor. But when he reached the landing, he froze.
The fire had taken over. Flames crackled and hissed, licking the walls and blocking the entire passageway. Heat slammed into Silas like a wall, forcing him to stumble back. His breath came in ragged gasps as he stared at the roaring inferno.
The fire had consumed everything in its path, including any hope Silas had of recovering the crucial evidence. He felt helpless. His legs refused to move, his body paralyzed with shock.
"Boss!" Caleb's voice cut through the haze as he rushed up behind him. Without hesitation, he grabbed Silas by the shoulders, pulling him back from the flames. "You can't hurt yourself like this!" Caleb's grip was firm as he struggled to drag Silas away from the danger.
