Chapter Twenty-Seven - Shopping Spree

Looking down at the scribbled note Mr Meyers had given him, he began to read out loud the listed items:

"Cot and mattresses, nappies, nappy bin, pram, car seat-" Roxy interrupted him, looking down at one of the prams the store had for sale.

"Car seat? Does that mean we have to sell my bike for a minivan or something?" She sounded disheartened, looking up at Tyler with eyes like a puppy.

"We'll have to think about that, but I have been pondering this for a while. I've been saving, plus the money from the hunts, so we've got a good backing behind us." Tyler explained, hiding a smile that tried to force its way across his face.

"Oh god! It isn't a minivan, is it? I can never see either of us behind the wheel of one of those!"

Tyler was about to answer when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket;

"Hold that thought. Hello?" The voice over the phone was a woman's, familiar to Tyler. His body rushed with the feeling of guilt as he looked at the contact name, realising that it was someone he had forgotten about for a long time.

"Hi, mum! How are you?" He asked cowardly.

His mother sounded calm and joyful hearing Tyler's voice after so long, "I'm doing great! They finally took me off of the night shift at the hospital. I haven't seen you come home in a while. Is everything okay?" She sounded concerned, worried like everyone else at his absence.

"We've got a lot of catching up to do. How about I come over for lunch today with my new girlfriend?" Tyler chuckled at the thought of Roxy finally meeting his mother, relishing the idea of eventually bringing her into his life once again.

"That sounds lovely! Are you not living here anymore?"

Tyler had forgotten to tell his mother or even leave a note saying he wouldn't be living there. The more he pondered on that thought, the more guilt-ridden he felt.

"Everything has been so rushed that I completely forgot to tell you! Roxy and I have gotten a place together just outside the town. We both work alongside our school studies, so we have quite a backbone behind us."

"This Roxy, that's your girlfriend, right? I cant wait to see you and her! I'll tell you what, how about I come over to your house and see the place you guys have! A place outside of town is quite expensive to run, so I hope you have a lovely view or something to go with! And I want to hear about your jobs! I'm so proud of you, honey! I'll pop to the shops and get some treats to share. Does Roxy have any preferences or allergies?"

"Ha, well, we are out shopping at the moment, but I'll text you our address, and we should be there at maybe two?"

"Shouldn't you be at school? You're not skipping classes, are you?"

"No, mum!" Tyler laughed at her comment, reassuring her that he was in good hands, "We've got a free track for the rest of the day. I'm sure you'll understand when we see you. I'll talk to you in a bit. We've got a lot of shopping to do!" He said his goodbyes to his mother before hanging up the phone.

He turned to look where Roxy was once stood, only to see her barreling towards him with a shopping trolley filled with clothes, toys, bottles and machines.

"What's all this?" He chuckled, looking through the items Roxy had picked up.

"This is most of the stuff for little ninja here. I've chosen a pram and a lovely cot whilst you were on the phone! Who was that anyway?"

"That was my mum. I completely forgot to tell her about any of this! Us moving, the baby! She's coming to ours at two today to meet you and see the house."

"Tyler! The house is a state! There are files of Alister Crowley all over the place! Not to mention the case files from our last hunt! I need to give the place a proper clean-up before she comes! I'll meet you at home. Pass me the card and get started, please!" She kissed Tyler before handing her the credit card and rushed back to the house, getting started on the mess he was living in.

'Roxy wasn't kidding! There are files everywhere!' He thought to himself, picking up the loose pages and files scattered on every house surface. He stuffed them into the draws of their desk and the top shelf of the wardrobe out of view.

"There we go! Now, time to have a look at a car." Tyler told himself, joyful at the prospect of his own car. He logged onto his computer and searched for his bank account, giving himself a budget for the car he would buy.

'£200,000 in my savings and £80,000 in my debit. God, who knew being a Hunter paid so well! Imagine what my life would be like without Roxy!' He closed the tab, logged onto the BMW website, and looked for the listings for a new car.

He hovered over the link 'Build and Price,' clicking it, he designed the dream car he had always wanted.

Hovering over the price tag, £127,930, he hesitated, before clicking the order now and seeing the pop-up, 'Your order will be delivered to your door within two months.' He lent back in his chair, astonished at how much he had just paid for his first car.

"I have never paid that much for anything in my life! Roxy is going to love this when she sees it! There isn't a better car to drive!"

A knock came from the front door, three-light taps in a row. Tyler rushed to it, expecting to see Roxy standing there with a handful of bags and some other things, but to his surprise, when he opened the door, Roxy was standing with his mother, laughing and chatting as if they had been friends for ever!
