Chapter Two: Leaving the Past Behind

It's been seven years since that incident. I had no one left in my family. I was on the streets, with no one to lean on, no one to trust. I was alone for years, enduring a difficult childhood, facing abuse and uncertainty.

I found no one when I needed them! No one. They left me alone, to FREAKING DIE!

I didn't know what to do in life, just moving from one bad decision to another, stealing, lying. I wasn't to be blamed. I was just a kid, unaware of what to do, living my whole childhood in horror, guilt, and fear. I didn't live the best life.

After all that, I went to several households, and no one wanted me. Some said, "Why is it such a rat?" or "She's a bastard." Some were abusive or even predators. I was sick and tired, wishing my family would be alive, looking for me, and someday I'll find them. but My mind changed over the years.

I was disgusted by them, started hating them. I believed that my family and my parents' siblings had all fled. I saw what I saw, but maybe they were right. My family just didn't want me anymore and left me.

So I left them and left my feelings for them. Left the hope of getting back to them. left my old self on that very same day, the 8th of December, the day I lost everything. And kept losing and losing. Not anymore; I will come out on top.

I WON'T NEED ANYONE'S HELP!

I got a job, not quite a high-paying job, but I could use all I could get and saved all I could for years and moved out of the country, heading towards a fresh start. I enrolled in a good university, found jobs, got myself two , and started studying business.

I covered myself with work to forget about my past. I met a young man and started dating him. I never told him about my past.

Moved from my apartment and bought a house. It was a fine house for its price, got a scholarship at my university and got several promotions at work. My boyfriend, Sebastian, also got a raise and became the manager at a company.

One year later - today -

Call: "Hey, can you come pick me up from work today?" Call: "Yeah, sure, I'll pick you up."

Later that day

Sebastian was standing outside my store as I closed down for the day. His genuine smile, visible even from inside the store, his black coat, and everything about him made me want to smile. As I sat in the car, he ran the car's engine and spoke, "Did you complete it?" He would ask me that every day, and I responded with the same reply every time, "It's almost done; I just need someone's things."

He looked at me with that same disappointed look and started moving the car.

Later...

As we came close to our house, he pushed the brakes and asked in an aggressive manner, "What do you need now? It's been two freaking years since you started working on that! Why can't you just take my help?!" I responded, "I can't take your help. I have already taken a lot from you! I can't possibly take any more help!" He went on, "Look, you don't want to take help from me, don't. I just need you to say yes! I've been waiting for two years. Why are you delaying our wedding? What is it? Do you not love me anymore or don't want to marry me?"

I had no response. I did like him, but I had to get my work done first. If I were to marry him first, I wouldn't be able to get my work done. I have always put priorities first, and backing out would be going against my own self. And I couldn't possibly do that!

"Sebastian, look, I know you're mad, but let's just head home; we can settle it there."

Sebastian started the car and moved towards the house.

Later that night...

I got out of the car while Sebastian went to park it. I ran straight to my room, freshened up, but Sebastian wasn't inside yet. So I decided to move downstairs, and there he was sitting at the dining table. As I approached him, I realized he was smoking.

"Hey, why are you sitting here?"

He interrupted and started moving towards me. My confusion was through, as he had never been the type of person to go straight with someone I didn't know what to do.

Later the next morning.

I was so tired that I didn't even know what had happened last night. Sebastian spoke,

"By the way, I brought you some pregnancy tests ."

"What!!"

I stood up and went to confront him, but he wrapped his hands around my waist gently and

He took off his jacket and pregnancy test and handed it to me. "Go check yourself, okay". Put the test aside, and changed while it generated the result. I wore a black loose buttoned up top and black trousers. I looked back at the pregnancy test, and it was positive.
