Disobey

The character Shui represented water, so Xiaoling thought keeping Weisheng away from the water was enough. However, after learning one of Weisheng's high school best friends was called Yun Shui, Xiaoling knew where this case was headed and why Weisheng wanted to solve it so badly.

"So," Xiaoling murmured, "Gao Bojing, Cang Tao, Yun Shui, and you had a rock band in high school?" She asked for confirmation.

Weisheng nodded sheepishly, giving away his life in front of the woman. He was practically held hostage by her.

"We were all children of conglomerates, so it was easy to get along." Weisheng continued explaining. "I lost touch with them after I joined Law School. It was too much work, and I never found time to see them. We occasionally met up, but it wasn't as often. Bojing and Tao were still in touch, though."

"What about that Yun Shui?" Xiaoling asked with narrowed eyes.

"Yun Shui went abroad to study. I think she's back and overlooking her parents' business. But I lost touch long ago, so I'm not sure." Weisheng explained.

Xiaoling nodded, "What about Gao Bojing and Cang Tao? Why did they fight?" She continued to ask.

Weisheng frowned slightly, clearing his throat, "Um," He pressed his lips together, "Actually, I'm not sure. Bojing's company recently collaborated with Tao's company. I only suspect Tao because when we found Bojing's body, his contacts were opened on his phone. His thumb was hovering over two names. Yuan Weisheng and Yun Shui."

"So, he wanted to call either of you to warn you or something?" Xiaoling asked.

Weisheng shrugged truthfully, "Master," He murmured, "I understand that I wield a deadly curse. But you can see this situation yourself. My old friend was murdered out of nowhere. How can I sit and do nothing?"

Xiaoling crossed her legs. During their conversation, she hadn't noticed how Weisheng was kneeling before her. She cleared her throat.

"You can sit here," Xiaoling patted on the couch.

Weisheng cleared his throat. He quickly sat on the couch without wasting a second. He had said all he could. He stared into the void, hoping Xiaoling understood his perspective and wouldn't throw him into the Underworld.

"Weisheng," Xiaoling called him after thinking about the situation, "I will let you do as you please if you promise me two things."

Weisheng's eyes widened, and he quickly turned to her, "Yes, Master." His voice sounded confident.

"You will stay away from Yun Shui no matter what," Xiaoling said, "And you will practice one hour with me every day."

Weisheng narrowed his eyes in confusion, "Practice what?"

Xiaoling smiled, "The way to suppress the Cursed Eye. We will cultivate. I'll teach you things about the after-realm, the underworld, the mortal realm, and the Heavens." She explained casually.

Weisheng blinked a few times. All this information was too much for his Law School brain. He slowly nodded. At least he wasn't being thrown into the Underworld.

"I'm ready to do all this," Weisheng murmured, "If you're ready to help me out with this investigation, I'd be more than glad to do all this."

Xiaoling grinned, "Why would I say no to my dear student?"

Weisheng smiled back. He figured if he was nice to Xiaoling, she was nice to him as well. Maybe that's why Xiaoling showed so much respect for Ru.

Xiaoling stood up from the couch and flattened the creases of her flowy Hanfu. She looked at Weisheng.

"I'll compile some helpful texts regarding the Cursed Eye and this vast world. We can start by studying them together." Xiaoling softly uttered, "I'm leaving Hai with you, so be at ease and focus on the case."

Weisheng nodded, "Thank you, Master."

Xiaoling smiled softly before snapping her fingers together. She disappeared into thin air right in front of Weisheng, leaving him shocked and slightly spooked. He gulped.

"M-Mr. Hai? Are you there?" Weisheng asked with fear lingering in his voice.

Suddenly, Hai appeared sitting right beside him. Weisheng jolted away from Hai. He could never get used to this.

"I never left," Hai casually uttered.

"Then please show yourself all the time," Weisheng made a small request.

"Noted," Hai shrugged.

Weisheng exhaled to keep his nervousness at bay. He turned to the several reports on the floor. He had to study them carefully if he wanted to get to the bottom of the case.

Suddenly, his cell phone rang. However, he was so immersed in the case files that he didn't notice it.

"Mr. Yuan," Hai called him.

Weisheng looked up from the reports cluelessly.

"Your phone," Hai pointed at the ringing phone.

Weisheng snapped back to reality and grabbed his phone. His eyes narrowed at the sight of who had called him. He picked up the phone hesitantly.

"Hello?" He asked through the phone while Hai observed from a corner. "Yeah, I'm home. What is this about?" He continued, then stopped for an answer. Suddenly, he stood up in surprise, "What?!" He shouted, "Where are you? Yun Shui?!"

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Weisheng stared at his phone and gulped. The call had ended, but his nervousness was still at its peak. He quickly rushed toward the front gate when Hai stood in front of him.

"If I recall correctly," Hai fixed his glasses, "Master told you to stay away from a person called Yun Shui." He murmured, "Where are you headed now, Mr. Yuan?"

Weisheng frowned, "Yun Shui is in trouble! If I don't go right now, something bad will happen. Please step aside!"

Hai shook his head, "I'm afraid I can't disobey Master."

Weisheng clenched his fists in anger. He didn't have time to waste with this random guy!
