My System!

Jason lost his cool, removed his headset and backed away from the table, he was in a daze yet the system was still present.

"What the actual fuck?" Jason cussed out, anyone would in his situation.

Jason was a college dropout, he had no ambitions in life nor plans for the future.

He just wanted to game and live the rest of his life in such a state, he was disowned by his parents but his older brother made sure he had enough to get by or death would most definitely creep up on him but this was what stopped him from growing up.

The fact that someone was looking after him made him believe this was a sustainable lifestyle.

Jason was either gaming or jerking off to porn, he was quite handsome and this was revealed when he backed away into the ray of sunlight piercing through his curtains

Jason thought he was going insane and he knew he needed to regain his composure because who believed him? Not like he had anyone to tell in the first place.

He lived a relatively normal life until high school, he was a looker and this made him the object of desire for girls.

Jason, however, was socially awkward and didn't know how to interact or converse so he withdrew and kept to himself, he remained a virgin because his awkwardness ruined the countless chances that came his way. He was the lord of fumbling at this point but he never worried about this. He had his porn to bust a nut when he needed to so that need to woo a woman was never present.

"What the hell is happening?" Jason thought but then he saw the interface and was curious to see what it does, was he in a game?

Jason was a gamer so he knew how to check his character details. He didn't need to press anything, there was nothing to press.

[Say "Status" To See Your Current Stats]

The system instructed, it was linked to him so it knew everything that Jason was thinking even without him saying it.

"Status" Jason complied and a bar appeared.

Jason was taken aback by this but was rather offended by how ridiculous his physical attributes were, they were laughable at best but he was quite surprised about his intellect but that would be because of his gaming experience.

Jason looked at the stats and he wondered what the other stats were but he had a general understanding as a gamer, he was surprised by the HP bar because there was no reason for it to exist in the first place.

All the games that Jason had played were similar to this, even his busted headset could simultaneously but he had one question and that was how he developed.

Did he auto-learn skills or did he have to learn them himself and the system just provides the manual?

Once again, the system picked up on his uncertainty and would further clarify his confusion.

[The System Only Aids The Player And Does Not Influence Anything Nor Grant Anything That Isn't Achievable By The Player Himself. All Skills Must Be Learned By The Player.]

Jason had his answer, the system was here as a guide, he would ultimately have to work for everything else but what the hell was even going on?

It spoke about a zombie outbreak but there was no news about that or was there?

Jason was completely disconnected from the outside world so he quickly got on his computer, closing the game he was on to search the keyword, "Zombies" but there was nothing.

Jason slapped himself in the face because he couldn't believe he thought there was an actual zombie apocalypse.

He thought it was a dream but why wasn't he waking up?

[Alert: Search Found!]

His computer pinged and Jason immediately arched forward to see what it was that was found, he clicked it and it redirected him to a video that was uploaded a few minutes ago, Jason was skeptical but there was nothing to lose.

He was rarely on the internet except from gaming, he made it a habit to avoid the news or anything concerning the outside world except for games.

The video began and the first thing he noticed was the location, it was just around the corner.

Jason wasn't convinced and the video began with a black screen but there was a lot of screaming. Jason was confused as to what the purpose of such a video was until it cleared up. Whoever was holding the camera pointed it at what appeared to be a person charging towards them, they had blood in their mouth with entrails hanging between their teeth and then the camera shut off, it was a live stream that one of the watchers had recorded and re-uploaded.

"Is this a clip from a movie?" Jason thought but he wished this was the case.

The comments came to the rescue and the more he scrolled, the more videos he saw supporting the fact that this might be a zombie apocalypse.

[The Zombie Apocalypse Has Begun! Good Luck Jason!]

The system wished him and the moment it did, Jason heard screams right outside his door and the growling of the undead.

"Well… Fuck," Jason cussed as he walked to his window to peek through the blinds; he saw people running, and cars zooming off into the distance but he wasn't bothered because as long as no one knew he was here, he should be safe. At least until things cooled down because being out in the open was the fastest way to die.

He had this much common sense and this was because Jason was calm, he was still convinced that this wouldn't be any different from the game he has been playing.

Jason was smart to wait it out because this was how he normally lived his life, indoors away from everyone else and zombies usually chased anyone that ran so if they were all running away from town, then the zombies should also follow them out of town.

"Come on man! That's too easy!" Jason exclaimed as he sat back, ready to hop back on his game but the electricity shut down at that very moment.

"Fuck, I spoke too soon…" Jason muttered under his breath.

Author here, the system was heavily inspired by New Eden: Live to Play, Play to Live.
