Monster Hunting

=Isle Sorma, 120 kilometers south from the Eastern Region=

Somewhere in an island of Zorna, 2/3 the size of Australia, outside of the main continent of Fordalt took place.

Somewhere in the vast forest, hundreds of Land Dragons corpses are everywhere in the area, dead, most of them died by a clean slit by a sword, some died from arrow wounds, and a pile of their bodies were decapitated. Right on the center was none other than Valentine cleaning her weapon after battling against a horde of Land Dragons, beside her was Liz, taking her arrows back out of the Land Dragon corpses.

It's been few weeks of finding the Ravager's nest, while the Land Dragon island was huge, they knew it only lives in caves, that's why they seek the map somewhere in one of the Kingdomof Atira's cities, they held the entire map of the island including the location of every caves. While they could just use Recon drones to do the job, Artemis orders them to do the work to see what humans like them could do.

"This is our first mission but we are having a hard time, why are they ordering us to hunt a Ravager? Only a demigod could easily cut through their very tough armor,s" Liz asked.

She was actually right about it, S-rank monsters are very powerful monsters that only Demigods could easily beat. Only mere two A-ranks facing against one S-rank is a suicide for the both of them, but Valentine didn't see it something big.

"Don't need to worry, Liz. While we are just the two of us, Ravagers aren't a threat from their speed but their durability, don't forget I have the Sword of Musashi, an ancient S-rank magical sword that the Theocracy held," As she says it, she put out her katana-like sword.

"This thing could pierce through Transcension Demigods' defenses with just a few hits, I don't know of the magical properties to make such a thing, but I don't really know what's behind it, blacksmithing nor enchantments isn't my thing,"

"I see," Liz said before asking another question, "Valentine, for long I've been wondering" 

"Hm?"

"Why are we getting an S-rank monster core exactly? I've been curious"

"Well, what I heard, they said it could power up both weapons and a ship, something called Project: Marauder," Valentine replied.

Hearing this, Liz realizes something.

"I think I understand now, I read about the dwarves used monster cores as a core for their machines, I think it makes sense because Monster cores, like dungeon cores, they are able to power up cities for years, the more stronger the monster were, the more powerful their core was, I just learn this since in my young days"

"Hm, you're a smart one, kid. Come on, we should be near its territory, I think we could find—...."

All of the sudden, Valentine became silent, it wasn't unnoticed to Liz as she asked.

"What is it?"

"... scatter!"

"What?"

Thanks to her A-rank senses kicks in, she felt something is coming out beneath her, and without wasting time, they immediately scattered, the spot they were in was destroyed, corpses of Land Dragons was threw away by the sudden appearance of a beast, as the dust clears, a large creature came out of the ground.

Valentine, sees the creature, and feels the heavy weight feeling.

"A Ravager,"

Over 30 feet in height and 50 feet in length, the monster has dozens of spikes in its back and in its hammer tail, the creature was four legged, its red eyes and black hue are very intimidating towards a person's core, and has a head of a triceratops.

"By the gods, do Ravagers' sizes are like that? It's huge!" Liz was stunned at the size of the monster.

"No, Ravagers are supposed to be 3 meters in height, those what you call are Titan Ravagers, an SS-rank version of a normal Ravagers. They are even rarer, while strong, we don't want to displease Artemis of abandoning the mission! Let's do it, Liz!"

"Roger," Without wasting any time, she immediately shot numerous magical arrows at the beast's forehead, and as it made impact, the arrow shattered on the beast's tough horn.

Titan Ravagers are SS-rank monsters, while the most slowest and most smallest among SS-rank monsters in Fordalt, they are considered to have the most durability of them all because of their highly durable armor all over their body, it is very hard that even a Transcension-Level Demigods has a difficult time to able to destroy one.

Liz tries to shoot at the beast's forehead because she knows those are Ravager's weak spots and aren't very durable compared to the other parts. But she didn't get the hit because the horns were blocking its way.

The Titan Ravager, looking at Liz, lunged at her direction with shocking speed, with its weight heavier than 50 tanks, it was still able to run fast as a sports car.

"Shit!" Seeing it gaining the attention of her, she also immediately ran from the monster, while she is faster, her previous injuries are still painful slowing her down, letting the Titan Ravager catch up with her.

"Liz!" Before Valentine ran towards her partner, a large shadow flew past her, she knew what it was.

As Liz is still chased by the large beast, she felt a large presence above her, she first thought it might be a flying-type monster but what she saw is a Hovercraft armed with machine guns hovered above her, it readied its machine guns, in a blink of eye, hundreds of bullets hits the monster, while the Primelium bullets does pretty effective and pierce through its armor like paper, it's not dying because with its big size and the bullets were small, it still able to get going. 

The Titan Ravager, annoyed by the sudden tracers hitting all over its body, don't want to keep it up or else it will die for a few more seconds, it raises its tail and suddenly the spikes on it grows, the beast then swing it's tail and the spikes suddenly flew, like bullets, it hits the Hovercraft, while most didn't destroyed it's armor, some hits the wings, able to malfunction it, losing one wing makes the Hovercraft lost its balance of flight and it crash down, but didn't exploded.

The Titan Ravager roared in triumph while heavily injured by the gunship's attacks, as it went back its attention on the ex-adventurer, it lost sight on her.

"Hey!"

Before it could react, a blue sword stab its eyes, Valentine got the opportunity to finish it thanks to Liz and the armed Hovercraft's distraction, but however, it was stopped as the Titan Ravager shaked furiously, turning its head right very hard with all of its strength, with such a force made Valentine lost her grip and flew through the tree lines, hitting all of the trees out of her way until she flew out of the forest.

As Valentine regaining her senses, she coughs of blood abit, she put out few potions: mana potion, stamina potion, and recovery potion, she gulped all of it in seconds, as she finish drinking all of it, she sees her enchanted sword of Musashi a few meters from her, she tried to get it but it was too late as the Titan Ravager was beside it, it tried to ram her using its horns, the speed of the beast was too fast than she could react, she tries to cast a magic barrier but was cut off when bullets hits the monster, it roars in pain when the same weapons piercing its armor and flesh like butter, it lost its attention on Valentine and look at the latter.

Liz, on the Hovercraft drone lifted the machine gun letting the drone shoot the beast, if it's just a manned drone, Liz will be clueless on how to use the machine gun.

"Come on! Why won't you kill it! You guys destroyed the Theocracy's most powerful air fleets!" Liz struggled from the large amount of time to kill the beast, as the Titan Ravager headed towards Liz, she dropped the machine because it ran out of ammunition, she thought her superiors sent out with a large amount of ammunition but she learned it only held a small amount.

No choice, she immediately put out her bow, she looked at her arrows and its only two left, picking one, she pulled the string and used most of her mana to create a 6th tier explosive magic on the arrow.

As the Alpha Ravager was close its distance to the magical archer...

The magic arrow exploded as it made impact on the Ravager.

Liz knew it's not the time to cheer, as the dust cleared, the Titan Ravager, still unscathed, but now...

It is even more pissed.

Liz tried to escape but couldn't, she used most of her mana, she felt very tired and couldn't escape in time. She has a mana potion but does not have the time to drink as the Ravager was in front of her.

As the Titan Ravager lifted it's foot ready to step the insect before it while Liz closed her eyes ready for her fate, suddenly the beast felt something hit its forehead between its horns.

Valentine on the sky holding the sheath of her magical sword and sending most of her mana on the sword at the same time making it more powerful that it could slice through a Transcension-level demigod's defenses, using 1/3 of her mana, she uses her strongest move.

"{Everlasting Strike}"

The time she used the skill, she then impaled the beast at lightning speed.

The Titan Ravager, in the entire battle feeling the most painfulness it receives from the gunship and valentine for the first time in its 200 years life, started to furiously turn its head, it became more aggressive than ever before. It continuously shakes its head to let the former member of the Papal Scripture out.

Valentine, still holding the grip of the magical energy blade, still struggled to pierce it deeper, the more the blade went deeper, the more of its aggressiveness even worse.

The monster, couldn't take the pain, jerked it's head upwards letting the A-rank mage-assassin lose her grip and flew in mid-air, giving the Ravager an opportunity to hit the high human.

In the blink of an eye, it swings its hammer shaped tail at the woman.

Valentine felt a massive pain hitting her back, the force of the tail is strong as a Transcension-level demigod, it broke through her defenses, like a hypersonic missile, Valentine flew out of the field, destroying nearby the sound barrier and flew across the landscape out of the beast and Liz view.

"VALENTINE!"

Liz was stunned by the power of an SS-rank monster. She knew it was now a mission failed, she knew Valentine is still alive but she is so far and she lost most of her mana, and she only has one arrow left.

It was indeed a mission failure.

However, something caught her mind. She put out something on her pocket dimension bag, she put out some green marble the size as a baseball.

It is called a teleportation pearl, while in her adventurer days, her and her party and other adventurer parties were in a mission to eliminate few Wraths.

She slightly remembers the experience fighting against them, the terrible fate of some adventurers who got killed by them, and the intimidating eyes she had looked at.

It was traumatizing.

When they killed the Wraths, they disintegrated into purple particles and only dropped strange pearls that were on their chest.

When she fully regain her senses, she realize it's still one second in the real world while she was deep in thoughts, she looked at the Titan Ravager looking at Valentine's direction.

Liz, without wasting much more time, threw the pearl at the monster. The Titan Ravager, seeing the small object, immediately hit it upwards with its horns, but the angle is a mistake it made. The pearl flew above the beast, it glowed and Liz's figure disappeared and appeared in the pearl's place.

Without hesitation, she put out her last arrow and used her remaining mana and cast a 3rd tier spell on the arrow, accelerating twice of its speed.

She then let go of the string and with perfect accuracy, the arrow was shot hitting the handle of the blade pushing it a few inches deeper of the beast.

The Titan Ravager felt the blade hit its brain, and the world around it turned dark.

The beast has been slain.

=10 minutes later=

Valentine, on the large crater in some mountain range, she was a few tens of kilometres where Liz and the Titan Ravager was, she's probably dead by now, she has used up all of her mana, and she felt her fate will be the same as the other scripture was.

Well, she thinks this is it.

Probably she wouldn't experience the Utopia she always dreamed of.

But her thoughts were interrupted when a few potions spilled its liquids at her face, drinking some of them, she felt she was instantly recovered.

She coughed a few times and saw her surroundings, she then saw Liz headed towards a wooden log and sat on it.

"Hey, good news I got a monster core, girl"

Liz said, smiling, taking out something in her dimensional bag, she held a red stone that glows brightly every second like a heart beat.

"Wow, wait how did you get the monster core when you don't have the materials to skin through his armor?" Valentine asked, slightly stood up, still feeling the injuries she had.

"Your sword, obviously, it took me more than 5 minutes and a lot of potions to recover myself to get its core, it's very tiring!" Taking another object on her dimensional bag, she hands over a blue glowing sword to Valentine.

"Thanks,"

"No problem, our first mission was accomplished, did we?" Liz replied.

"Yeah," Valentine said while drinking the stamina potion from Liz.

Another 10 minutes has passed, Valentine and Liz walk through the dense forest while recovering. Sometimes they encounter Land Dragons, small and big reptilian monsters, both weak and strong, but they kill them.

"I finally got a call from HQ, our ride will arrive, ETA 2 hours" Valentine says.

"Finally, once we get back, I want you to rent a five-star Inn for me in the city, I am really tired for today!"
