Doomsday Has Come

"Clementine, you bast*rd!" Kyle cursed aloud as he stared at his friend, who was engrossed on a phone call, completely ignoring his laptop with its screen showing the sight of a dying throne.

"Dire victory!" A boisterous announcement sounded from their laptops, and Kyle had this immense urge to strangle his friend for favoring his girlfriend over a ranked game.

"Tch!" Kyle shoved his middle finger at Clementine and stormed off the room to alleviate his stress.

Closing the balcony door, Kyle fished a single cigarette out of its pack and ignited it. However, he didn't immediately go to smoke from it and merely held it in between his fingers absentmindedly.

He had vowed not to smoke anymore, but his habit subconsciously reverted back to the past every time he was distressed.

'Just take one deep inhale. It's fine.' Kyle's inner demon suggested.

'No, you mustn't! A man must protect his commitment till his death!' Another voice sounded inside his head.

When his mind was busy wandering, he sensed a vibration coming from his pants pocket.

Snapping out of his daze, Kyle hurriedly fetched his phone and saw it was his mother's call. He immediately answered, "Hello, mom?"

"Hello, son? How's the university going? Did someone bully you? Was the pocket money I gave you last week enough for you to last until the end of the month? Are the courses difficult?" Kyle's mother immediately let out a barrage of questions that left him momentarily speechless.

"Mom! How am I supposed to give my answer if you gave me a lot of challenging questions at once? Please moderately just ask a question at one time." Kyle pleaded in a helpless tone.

"Cough... Sorry, mom just a bit excited and worried since this is the first time you have travelled far away from home." Kyle's mother giggled in embarrassment.

"Is that so?" Kyle lightly pondered and realized he had never gone far away from his hometown. Hence, attending Yore University, which was around five hundred kilometres away from his hometown, Sylastro, could be considered the farthest travel he ever had.

Usually, he'd reply to his mother's query briskly and frivolously. But, perhaps, because today's weather was cloudy, his mood seemed affected as well and became a little melancholic.

He patiently answered his mother's questions and talked while reminiscing about the past.

"By the way, son, have you ever contacted Alyssa? She said you're always busy whenever she wants to call you." Kyle's heart jumped a little at the mention of that name.

He softly coughed to hide his awkwardness and replied, "Sorry, mom, it's been a hectic week for me. Therefore, I couldn't find an appropriate time to contact her."

"Why are you apologizing to me? You should explain that to her directly." Kai's mother lightly chastised him before adding, "Sigh... I know you had your own issue to settle, but please, don't ignore your sister too much, okay? She already lost too much at a young age, and now you keep avoiding her."

Sister... He really didn't want to talk about this topic.

Therefore, he could only endure his annoyance and made an excuse that his friend had called him and he had to go.

He rests his arm on top of the railing and looks up into the sky.

Just then, he notices something unusual happening in the sky. A big bird was descending from the sky at high-speed. No! It was more like a plane was about to crash! However, as the silhouette grew clearer, Kyle didn't anticipate it was a giant chunk of stone!

Kyle repeatedly rubbed his eyes to confirm he was not seeing things. After verifying nothing was wrong with his vision, Kyle hurriedly hollered, "Clementine! Come here!"

Although he was utterly dissatisfied with being bothered during his phone-calling. Clementine nevertheless heeded Kyle's words because he could sense the latter's urgent tone.

"What's wrong? If it's nothing pressing, I'm gonna beat you!" Clementine impatiently berated.

Kyle didn't bother with his nonsense and instantly pointed his finger at the sky. "Look!"

Clementine followed the direction where the finger pointed and was immediately struck dumb.

"W-what the f*ck is that??" Clementine cried in shock in between his stuttering.

"Holy sh*t! If both of us can see it, then it must be real! Let's go! We must evacuate soon!" Without waiting for Clementine's reaction, Kyle hastily grabbed the hem of his shirt and started pulling him on the run, dragging him down flights of stairs of the dormitory building.

Undoubtedly, such a gigantic meteor couldn't avoid everyone's eyes. Shortly after, the stairs were crowded with students fleeing in panic. The proper procedure when the disaster occurred that had been taught from childhood was thrown out of the window. Their minds are only filled with a word, that's "Survive."

Kyle was left with no exception. He jostles back and fro through the mob and finally makes it to the lowest story after struggling for a few minutes. However, once he reached the surface, he was faced with tremendous doubt. It shouldn't take long for a meteor to hit the Earth's surface. But why is there no collision impact even after a few minutes pass?

As he escaped the building, he finally saw the giant stone that was supposed to be a meteor that hit their university a while ago. For a strange reason, the stone's velocity grew slower as it approached the ground. It was to the extent the stone looked floating.

'How's this possible? Are the physic laws no longer applied to Earth? What's exactly happening?' Everyone thought puzzlingly in unison.

Under everyone's bewildering gaze, the giant stone slowly dived into the tracking field area, implanting itself on the ground upon reaching the surface.

*Dong*

The sound of something being buried echoed loudly in the vicinity. The earth shuddered for a moment as though an earthquake had transpired. People simultaneously hold their breaths inadvertently, bracing themselves for what's about to come.

Fortunately, after around half a minute, the rumbling slowly ceased to exist.

"Bloody he*l! My head is so dizzy that I could throw up at any moment." Clementine whined as he tried to balance his body while clutching his throbbing head at the same time.

"Well, we should be glad about the fact that we're still alive. Realistically, that humongous monolith should crash on us and drive us to die." Kyle said righteously.

Without warning, a cry sounded from one of the students, "There's another meteor heading to us!"

Kyle subconsciously lifted his head. His facial expression instantly turned ghastly pale. If the previous meteor was as giant as a house, the current meteor was twenty times larger than the former.

'If such things were to fall, the whole city would obviously be obliterated from the map.' Kyle thought to himself in self-pity. Unless a person like Saitama appears, there's no way he could dodge that sort of calamity.

Just as he plunged into despair, the giant stone which remained quiet throughout the period suddenly unleashed a brilliant scarlet ray, piercing through the sky.

The ray shoots straight toward the sky for about three hundred meters before stopping its advancement. Afterward, countless beams began to scatter from the tip of the ray, developing a somewhat dome structure as they orbited the first ray.

At the same time, complex runes began to materialize on the giant monolith's surface, giving an impression of something ancient and bizarre.

When the giant monolith's surface was filled entirely with the runes, the orbiting beams ultimately reached the ground.

The whole university seems to be sealed off from the outside world at that moment.

Kyle had no time to admire such a spectacle since the second meteor had drawn closer. A couple of seconds flew by and the second meteor finally collided against the dome under everyone's horrified gazes.

There were no noises made out of the collision, but everyone could feel chills on their backs as they stared at its monstrous impact. A giant mushroom cloud was seen blooming in the distance. The world outside and nearby buildings were quickly destroyed by its explosive power or getting swept away by fierce winds.

The scarlet dome was trembling violently, but to everyone's surprise, there was no sign of its weakening or damage.

When the tremor finally stopped and the dust cleared off the dome's surface, everyone could see numerous meteors of the same caliber falling from the sky. The view brought fear and chilliness to everyone's heart. It's like watching a scene of calamity related movie.

"Doomsday has come..." Someone from the crowd muttered.

'Mom, Dad, Alyssa, please be safe.' Kyle solemnly wished while trying to stifle the tears that were threatening to leak.
