"Then what are we waiting for?! Give our abilities back, we can't have you losing parts of your life while using them!" Boo said, holding her hand out as if Sky could just give it to her.
"I've been thinking about it, and I would like nothing more than to give them to you... but I can't do that yet." He vaguely said.
Boo seemed to understand what he meant and immediately backed down. Dani wanted to continue the conversation, but we were interrupted by Ruby and two of the soldiers that walked around her.
"Did we interrupt something?" She asked. I was nervous at first, remembering the bar that was taken out of place, but when I looked back at it, Sky had already fixed it without us even seeing him move it... that was quick...
"A little, but I suppose it doesn't matter much. Come on guys, let's go." Dani said, walking past Ruby and ignoring the glare she got.
Ruby set her hand on Carl's shoulder as he tried to walk past, and the momentum of the group completely stopped.
"Now that you're here, actually, I'd like to assign to you all jobs from here on out. Dani, Carl, Charlie, and Alex, I want you all to go with Alatus and Fudo and learn your places in our army. It may vary depending on your skills, but I expect that you will find your way and figure it out." Ruby stated, then, she turned over to me.
"Lia, Lily, Griff, Jeff, and Alexia, I'd like you guys to follow me after I assign roles to everybody. You will be training as medical assistants for the city when we're in battle." She said.
"Mandi... and the twins, with the guy... and Faith, they'll be sticking close to my strategizing team. Oh, and Shike, Belle, and Boo, I'd like you guys to pick your own endeavors. Whether it be joining the army with Dani, Carl, Charlie, and Alex, or working as medical assistants. I can clarify that you're talented individuals based on the fight that was broadcasted to me." Ruby said, looking further through the crowd.
"And... Ellie, you will take the other people in the hospital and join our manual labor programs within the city, whichever ones you wish. And, Lisa, I'll have you watch over Zeal's children, and that other one... Aegis, right?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah, it's Aegis, but I'm sure Moon will want to watch her own child, so why don't you let her do that?" Lisa asked her, but Ruby wasn't persuaded by that.
Her body language changed and she had an annoyed look.
"Moon will be plenty busy, you will too, watching her kid for her while she's working. Look, the work will go like this. You will be called upon as your trainers see fit. If you want to live in this city, you must provide for it, as all citizens do. You will all be given basic necessities, but luxury items are those you will work for. Am I clear?" Ruby asked the group.
We were all silent, considering her terms, and whether or not we wanted to be located into careers such as the ones she spoke of.
"Genesis was in here, Ruby. He was disguising himself as one of the prisoners and broke everybody out, why did you let that happen?" Sky asked as if he was trying to start something.
"I'm aware of what happened. The fact that you stayed explains a lot about your true motivations." Ruby shortly said, but Sky chuckled and looked at Ruby through the bars with his classic, annoyed look.
"You want to recruit my friends to your strategy crew because you couldn't cover such a simple mistake, isn't that right? You watched my friends fight Illya and perform in their own unique ways, taking all of their accumulated experience and motivations from our time on the Isle and what we fought for, and you plan to use them for it? I wonder... are you really any better than you think I am?" Sky asked Ruby. I smiled, knowing he was just trying to annoy her.
"I am, yes, because I'm putting your talents toward a good cause. Beforehand, their talents were used to extract the blood of a Deity, and now, they will be used to save lives." Ruby said, turning around and pointing toward the top of the steps. We listened to her plea and all reluctantly walked out, back into daylight, and dispersing into our own groups.
Dani, Carl, Charlie, Alex, Shike, Belle, and Boo all walked over to Alatus and Fudo, while I joined Lily, Griff, Jeff, and Alexia with Ruby to walk over to her hospital.
From the prison Sky was being held in, the hospital was only about a minute-long walk north, and another two-minute walk west until we arrived at the red-cross. The dirt roads were crowded with more people again, walking with children, walking alone, or with somebody else. It was weird to see this many people at peace with... everything. Orion wouldn't have lasted down here.
And of course, I'm still suspicious of Ruby, especially because this was Zeal's city she inherited, and he was a piece of shit through and through. I'm sure that's reflected somewhere in this mess... somewhere.
Entering the simplistic building, the room was filled with a ton of chairs in a big lobby. To the right and left sides of those chairs were desks and reception offices where people were taking... calls? They had phones down here as well?!
They rang loudly in the cubicle that was shoved off behind the desks, and the people within them were attentive to the phone, paying attention to it with a motivation that filled their eyes.
The hospital itself was relatively empty, with only a few kids in gowns walking around and playing with toys as quietly as ever, walking in and out of rooms to get more toys and bring them to their group of friends.
"I see you don't have a lot of problems. So, what will we be learning here?" I quietly asked Ruby. She refused to answer, taking us further into the lobby, and down a hallway decorated with childish drawings and stickers.
"Here is your trainer. I'll introduce you." Ruby said, knocking on the door to hear a voice come from the inside.
Once she opened the door, a girl with blue hair and bright purple eyes turned her head with a smile.
"Hey! I'm Hiyochi! Are these the people, Ruby-nee?" Hiyochi asked Ruby... with a weird part to the end of her name.
"Yeah. They'll be in your care. Teach them how the hospital works, and then the complicated stuff after. I have other people I have to take care of, I'll leave it to you." Ruby said, lightly closing the door.
"Leave it to me, Ruby-nee! Now, let me learn your names!" The enthusiastic girl asked.
