I said my goodbyes to everybody in my new dorm and returned to where my mom and dad told me to meet them after I was done.
"Ready for your last night at home?" My mom asked me.
"I guess... are you gonna miss me?" I asked her with a smug smile.
"Well, maybe, we'll see." She said, rubbing my head.
We walked back home together and Dad followed right next to me. "Maybe one day you'll become just as strong as your pops," Dad said. It felt like he and I both had the same smug smiles. Maybe that's where I get it from.
"So, what are we making for dinner?" Dad asked Mom.
"Dunno, maybe we'll force Cynthia to cook." She said.
"Oh, why does Cynthia stay at home if she goes to HTG? Doesn't she go to the dorms as well?" I asked Mom.
"Well... she doesn't have to stay at HTG, she's a prodigy who only is called for defensive purposes, so she just studies at home." She said.
"But... what about her missions?" I asked her again. Mom explained that Cynthia is called on missions, but not very often because she's much more useful at defense. I didn't really understand... but I also don't really care either.
We made it home from the walk across the bridge connecting the two Isles. The stone bridge was full of people that left MTG. I barely knew anybody, but the crowd dispersed for my family as we walked back home.
We lived out on an empty field with the backyard of our house connecting to a nearby cluster of trees that Shike, Belle, Alexia, and I call 'Splitter Forest', which split all of our houses. We were all connected and met up in my backyard every time we went to go play.
The grassy fields that led to the dirt pathway to my home swayed in the wind as Mom, Dad, and I walked toward the front door. I took an extra amount of time to absorb all of the intricate details of the house before I left for a while.
I stepped in the front door to the blue walls and nice carpets. To my right were stairs that led to the second floor, along with all of our rooms. The kitchen on the left and living room on the right was filled as Mom and Dad walked into each one, while I walked upstairs to go pack.
Cynthia's room was on the left, while I was on the right. The pictures inside of our house were something I wouldn't see for a while, but I was grateful that they were there in the first place. Plus, I was going away for a bit, not forever. I was just ready to experience a new area with my friends and the newcomer, Illya.
I packed up all of the clothing and even put a small picture in my suitcase. Afterward, I walked downstairs to see my dad with his legs crossed and my mom with her knees put together on the couch, telling me to come over to them.
"Am I in trouble or something?" I asked them. This made me really nervous for some reason.
"Quite the opposite... um... I guess it's more of a 'truth' type of thing we've been hiding from you." They both said. I stared at them dumbfounded.
This doesn't apply to your father, but I'm not exactly... Human." Mom told me.
"Huh?" I stared at her with another dumb stare.
Mom slid down her left sleeve and revealed the top of her left shoulder... which looked weirdly disfigured, with an additional cloud of black smoke surrounding them.
"Huh...? What... Rubeki smoke? Are you a Rubeki?" I asked her.
"Not exactly. I'm a hybrid, as Zach called me, which means I can use some of the same abilities that the Rubeki can... more specifically, the abilities Providence can." She said.
"That's... awesome... so, that Providence girl you once fought became a part of you? Or something?" I asked her again. Mom seemed relieved at first, and my dad seemed happy.
Truthfully, I didn't care. I wouldn't really care if she was a villain or killed children in her past life, because I knew her as my mom and the person who took care of me. I'm not dead and she's a good Mom, so I never saw the problem.
"I'm sure you know that this means you're inadvertently related to Providence. I think we should tell him the truth about that other thing as well." Mom said while closing her eyes and tilting her head toward Dad.
"No! It's a secret." Dad muttered.
"Well... okay. That was all? I think it's cool I'm related to somebody so powerful... but wait, are you guys, sisters?" I asked Mom.
"No, it has to do with your father's wound. Our DNA collided after she attacked us, and with my left eye, our DNA collided and it gave birth to the Golden Strands. But, if you don't care about it in a negative way, then all is good." Mom told me.
"What are Providence's abilities? What can she do that separates her from all other Rubeki?" I asked both of my parents.
"Eye of Providence is her main one, but its usefulness has been reduced by fifty percent. An eye that can see all and detect all strands. Another one of her abilities is expert strand control and manipulation, just like I have. We're one of the same... but I'm probably stronger. Eventually, you'll get even stronger than Providence and I combined." Mom explained.
"What a wild dream... of course, that's the plan, but I hear you're pretty strong Mom, so I'm not sure how I could be stronger than you. Or Dad." I said. Dad seemed to like that comment a lot, but Mom was a lot more humble than him.
"It's all surface level. True strength comes from determination and courage, and there's no kid in this world who has more than you, Sky." She told me.
"Oh, and when you're at MTG, you should know that the students all want one thing... to be the best. No matter what kind of person you meet, Sky, you should always do what you think is right. We've built that description of right and wrong for you, and it's up to you to do the rest." Mom said.
She got off of the couch and pulled my head into her shoulder, silently sobbing.
"Do it... do it for Dani..." She muttered.
What?
