Chapter 18 First Battle

For the first time in his fifteen years of living Chen Fei was fighting for his life.

Instantly from the direction and speed of the knife that was thrown at him, Chen Fei knew that it was aimed at his heart. It carried enough power behind it to be embedded into the concrete where Chen Fei was just standing, so it definitely had enough strength to kill even a Copper Knight.

His eyes narrowed when the figure on the opposite rooftop threw another set of knives, this time with a much greater accuracy and power behind each of them. In the time that it took to blink they were already within several feet of Chen Fei.

Dodging to the left while swiping at several of the knives that Chen Fei knew he couldn't evade, the fifteen year old felt a sharp pain come from his right arm, realising that one of the knives had grazed his arm, causing crimson red blood to leak out from the wound.

'Sh*t! This person has obviously been trained in battle techniques that specialise in throwing knives! Unless I can get closer, even with my transformation I won't be able to beat them!'.

The current Chen Fei knew his skills lay in his enhanced physical capabilities. The claws and talons turned him into something closer to an alpha predator from hundreds of millions of years ago, and his physical speed and strength had been enhanced to a level that exceeded the Copper Knight level.

Bending his knees slightly as he gazed towards the figure on the opposite rooftop, Chen Fei guessed it was around a ten to fifteen metre gap in between the two buildings and gathered his spiritual power in his legs as he started running forward.

His Wind Attributed spiritual power started circulating frantically within his spiritual wellspring, and the blood in his body pumped faster and more efficiently with two hearts supporting it.

"F*ck off!", Chen Fei shouted as he swiped at the air in front of him, blocking another wave of throwing knives thrown at him. Several more scratches appeared on his body, none close to the important arteries or organs in his body.

Feeling the concrete beneath his feet crack a little as Chen Fei leaped off the massive apartment building, jumping over the two lane street and onto the opposing apartment block.

It might've been because the figure couldn't see Chen Fei due to the darkness and clothes he was wearing, but the figure let out a surprised gasp as she saw Chen Fei's hands and feet, obviously realising they weren't human appendages.

While Chen Fei obviously couldn't defy gravity like Crooked Jack could, digging his elongated claws and talons into the concrete allowed him to be positioned perpendicular to the building, and in one of the blind spots of this knife throwing Knight.

He didn't land on the rooftop where she was standing, but one or two floors below her, with stairs that Chen Fei could access to get to the top of the apartment block.

His figure flashed under the lack of any bright lights as a black clothed figure ran at speeds exceeding the limits of the mortal body, up stairs and walls as he jumped towards the other Knight.

Just as Chen Fei was about to turn a corner, a tiny, almost unnoticeable whistling-like sound entered his ears, and he pulled himself back instinctively allowing for three weirdly shaped knives to be embedded into the wall next to him.

He let out a disappointed "tsk", knowing that the corner led to a straight hallway over fifty metres in length. With that kind of limitation of Chen Fei, he knew he would be able to avoid or block all of the knives thrown at him, and some would inevitably hit their mark.

Letting out a deep breath Chen Fei could hear the sounds of televisions and laughter coming from inside their various apartments in this building. Some yelling and even some music came from one of the rooms next to Chen Fei, along with the sound of heavy breathing and a thumping heart coming from close by.

He frowned for a moment, then realised this unstable heartbeat was obviously coming from the other Knight down the hallway.

"Sh*t! They actually expect me to fight a mutated monster?! Goddamn that Crooked George! I'm only a Copper Knight, and they want me to fight some sort of human-shaped mutated monster!? F*ck!".

A look of realisation came over Chen Fei. It seems that he was not the only one the Crooked Blades were interested in accepting.....

If this was some sort of test, putting two young Copper Knights with lots of potential against each other in order to see who was the better choice for recruitment, having a stronger performance was never a bad thing. Even if he didn't know where the Crooked Blades were watching from, the fact that they were watching caused Chen Fei to smile as he gazed towards where the other Copper Knight was standing.

"If Kim Baek Hyeon wanted to create an alpha predator, then I'll f*cking show him an alpha predator.....".

Chen Fei's figure backtracked onto to the previous floor, noting there was an equally long stretch of corridor exactly the same as the floor above.

'Since I can hear her breathing and heartbeat, she won't be able to hide from me. And in the darkness, her vision would be impaired..... mine will not'.

Finding a circuit breaker was definitely not an easy thing to do. Chen Fei had to jump down all the way to the bottom floor towards the rear end of the building and smash open a couple hidden metal boxes, before finding the right one.

The building that the female Copper Knight was currently on, had no power or electricity running through it. All the lights in the hallways were deactivated, and the backup generator only worked for the individual apartments, not the external lights or security cameras.

The female Copper Knight didn't seem to know this, but apartments in Water Moon City are exactly the same as the dormitories that Chen Fei resided in. While the external was different, the plans and electrical circuits were all the same.

As someone who had experienced over three years in an all-boys dormitory, he knew all various pranks and tricks other students had used on him. Something like this, should give him a better performance than the other Knight.

"Sh*t! Did why are the lights turning out now of all times! Why am I this unlucky!", the female Copper Knight exclaimed.

Most mutated monsters had the ability to see in the dark, so it came as a huge unfortunate surprise that the lights went out just as she thought she had this in the bag.

With her senses, and even her rare Dual Attributes, Ice and Lava, Kendo Ichika couldn't determine where this mutated monster would be coming from. Considering that she was standing at the end of a hallway, there was no need to look behind her as their was neither a door, nor an apartment behind or to the sides of her.

Only would the mutated monster come from directly in front of her.

Taking her phone out and turning on the light, Ichika threw it several metres in front of her, hoping to get even a tiny glimpse of the mutated monster before it struck. Its speed and strength definitely exceeded her own, and those talons and claws where sharp enough to pierce concrete.

The only thing that puzzled Ichika was the distinct human-like figure that the mutated monster possessed. Two arms, two legs, one head that with the black clothing on looked more like a human than a monster. Other than the claws and talons, even she would mistake this mutated monster for a human.

"Do the Crooked Blades make these monsters for their potential recruits to fight?", she wondered.

Kendo Ichika gulped silently as she raised her throwing knives once more. For some reason, she felt a prick on the back of her neck, and subconsciously spun her body around, as if trying to stab a figure behind her.

*CLANG!*.

The sound of metal meeting talon echoed throughout the hallway. Chen Fei felt a sharp and narrow edge pressed up against his throat, while Ichika felt talons extended around her throat, while her stabbing hand was blocked by Chen Fei. A thin layer of blood spilled out of both Chen Fei and Ichika's necks, causing the former to smile and the latter to become shocked.

Chen Fei couldn't help but speak up.

"Damn.... You're faster than you look".
