Life's tragedy is that you get old too soon and wise too late.

*3rd POV, With Itachi [Haru is 7]*

This was it.

The time had come.

Itachi could feel Sasuke's chakra nearing quickly.

Haru was elsewhere, but close. She would make it after the battle was over, after her curiosity had gotten the best of her.

A burst of chakra cleared his thoughts, and his eyes fixated on a blurry figure that had burst through the door, not bothering to disguise their chakra as it flared up from anticipation and exhilaration.

The battle had begun.

*Haru's POV*

I sat in the center of a fairly large room, surrounded by toys and other things that comforted me as I sat alone, trying to occupy my thoughts while I waited for Tou-san to come back. I skimmed through various scrolls, but none caught my interest, as I'd already read them all before.

A slam echoed through the building, and I shot to my feet as my heart started to race.slowly pick up speed.

I could feel panic start to swell in my chest as fearful thoughts began cycling through my brain.

It was nothing, right?

Tou-san must've dropped something heavy.

It would've been reassuring if not for the fact that there was nothing in the building, for I'd looked around beforehand.

It was nothing.

Another slam sounded out, this time shaking the entire building, sending chunks of the ceiling falling down.

It was nothing.

Continuous slams and yells sounded throughout the basement, chipped rubble falling from various places, and the air in general seemingly heating up.

Something was wrong.

I shot up, and bolted, heading for the door that led upstairs, panic pushing me forward.

Tou-san was the only thought on my mind.

I paid little attention to the worsening chaos that took place the higher up I ran, and instead focused on finding Tou-san, and finding out what was going on.

My fingers brushed the doorknob, and I quickly yanked it open fractures appearing on the door itself, revealing a sight I never wished to see.

Pure shock stopped me in my tracks, my breath hitching.

I had found Tou-san, but also a sight that cleared my head of all thoughts, leaving one emotion.

Terror.
