Stone in the shoe

When you were a kid, you lived with your grandmother in the small town of Silvertree, on the edge of a magical forest. Grandma is a witch, and she taught you how to use your magic to affect the natural world, too. “Magic is a part of you,” she always told you. “Learning how to use it means figuring out who you are.” Now you’re 19 and on your own. After years of living in the forest while you perfected your witchcraft, you’ve returned to take care of your grandmother’s house and crow-familiar while she’s gone. Figuring out who you are feels more important than ever - not to mention, figuring out what Silvertree is. A lot is just as you remembered: the friendly generous next-door neighbors with a kid just your age, the proud town council, the quaint little shops with quirky punny names, the gentle shadowy forest full of magic.

You're not exactly sure where to start, but you just have a feeling that there might be more hidden around here. Knowing your grandma—or even Selene Corvina herself—it wouldn't be surprising.

But quite quickly, you realize you have no idea where somebody might want to keep something hidden, or even what that thing might be. You just thought, if you dug again through the chest (which is already empty, but you never know), you might stumble across a secret keyword scratched in the wood. Robin tries his best to help you with your search, but it seems pretty clear to both of you that you're probably not going to find anything.

In the end, you sit back in front of the diary with nothing to show for your last-ditch attempt to decode its secrets. At last, you're forced to accept that you'll have to go ahead without the solution to the code.

Beside you, Robin lets out a shaky breath.

"Okay. If you're ready—let's start."
