Chapter 97: The Abomination

As the beast charged toward him, Feng Mo coldly raised his blade, his movements swift and precise. With a few deft steps, he closed the distance, his blade gleaming as he brought it down on the creature's wolf-like head.

Boom!

The force of the impact blasted nearby debris away, shattering the building's glass and cracking the ground beneath them, leaving a ten-meter-wide crater. Feng Mo used the momentum to leap back ten meters, while the beast was thrown backward as well. To his dismay, his blade had only left a faint white mark on its head.

He remembered the old saying about wolves: "copper head, iron tail, tofu waist." But this beast had the shell of a turtle around its waist, likely making it even harder to penetrate.

He opened the launcher on his right shoulder, revealing an array of micro-missiles. With a fiery trail, fifty missiles shot toward the beast. Surprisingly, it didn't even try to evade, instead raising its arms to shield its eyes and bracing for impact.

Boom, boom, boom!

A series of explosions ensued, tossing the creature into the air. Despite the impressive show of force, the beast emerged relatively unscathed, its arms only slightly scorched.

The repeated attacks had completely enraged it. It let out a furious roar, locking its blood-red eyes onto Feng Mo before suddenly appearing in front of him, its massive claws swinging down.

"Good timing!" Feng Mo shouted, bending slightly and transforming his sword into a black round shield.

Clang!

A resounding clash rang out as Feng Mo was hurled back by the impact, spinning twice in the air before activating his foot thrusters to stabilize himself. Using the momentum, he charged forward once more, transforming his shield into a massive hammer aimed straight at the beast's head.

The thunderous blows echoed through the street as Feng Mo and the creature moved with such speed that afterimages began to appear. If there were an observer present, they'd notice that the beast was growing faster with each exchange, and Feng Mo was beginning to struggle to keep up.

Amidst a fierce roar, the beast struck, a silver flash ripping through the air and slamming into Feng Mo's chest.

Even with his combat armor, the impact left Feng Mo's body aching, sending him crashing through a nearby wall and burying him beneath a pile of rubble.

Seeing Feng Mo finally hit, the beast let out a triumphant roar, pounding its chest like a gorilla to assert its dominance.

"Cough, cough!"

A cough broke the silence as two armored hands emerged from the debris. Feng Mo slowly rose, his helmet dissolving into a pool of black liquid, revealing his face, slightly battered, with blood at the corner of his mouth—evidence of internal injuries from that blow.

"Not bad. Let's go again!"

With a renewed grip, Feng Mo formed a giant battle blade, its razor-sharp edge glinting under the streetlights. He charged forward, raising the blade for a powerful downward strike. Simultaneously, he extended his left hand, releasing five thin purple beams that shot straight through the creature's chest before his blade struck, sending the three-meter-tall beast flying.

Feng Mo planted his blade into the ground, exhaling heavily. The encounter had drained him significantly; this beast possessed quasi-T5-level energy, and Feng Mo, as a level-three gene warrior with a T3 Black Shard armor, could only barely match it.

However, he'd recently integrated dark energy crystals into his armor, which he'd further enhanced with more crystals from a white hole. These upgrades allowed him to penetrate the creature's chest with the purple energy beams.

The beast rose again, coughing up thick purple blood, with five wounds on its chest oozing the same dark blood. It glared at Feng Mo, but now with a hint of fear mingling with its bloodthirsty gaze.

Having assessed the creature's strength, Feng Mo decided to go all out. His armor was capable of much more.

"Xiao Y, activate the ion laser cannon!"

At his command, a black liquid formed in front of him, materializing into a massive 130mm hand cannon. Gripping it with both hands, Feng Mo's targeting system automatically locked onto the beast.

"Time to say goodbye!"

The moment he finished speaking, he pulled the trigger, and a pale blue beam shot straight toward the creature.

Seeing the cannon, the beast's eyes flashed with fear, but then it locked its bloodthirsty gaze on Feng Mo, its mouth opening as the red glow spread from the shell on its back up to its throat. It spat a red beam straight at Feng Mo's blue laser, meeting it head-on.

There was no explosive collision, nor any sparks. The beams canceled each other out, leaving only a slight distortion in the air where they had clashed.

With a dull thud, the creature collapsed.

"Target's life force has disappeared. Scanning complete. The target is confirmed dead," Xiao Y reported.

Feng Mo approached the fallen beast, watching as its body reverted to a human form, further deepening the mystery surrounding this assassination attempt. It was as if a veil of secrecy hung over the entire affair.

"Feng Mo! Commander!"

Voices called out behind him. Turning, Feng Mo saw the three women approaching, accompanied by a squad of soldiers in matching uniforms with the Chu family insignia.

"Are you alright?" Chu Yunjian asked, taking his arm with a concerned look.

"I'm fine. Have your men take this body away and make sure it doesn't fall into anyone else's hands. This corpse is unusual. I'll send you a video recording later—watch it but keep it confidential."

Chu Yunjian nodded and gestured for her men to retrieve the body. Then she said, "This assassination was likely premeditated. The Chu family's rivals, the Demon Lord, the Snow Eagle Empire, the Qiao family in Apocalypse—they all have motives. And with no survivors, we'll have to investigate further."

Feng Mo nodded. "No rush. Yunjian, is there any way to acquire some memory metal? I'd like to make you all some combat armor. Without it, handling situations like this is far too dangerous."

Chu Yunjian's face softened, touched by his concern. The Chu family did own T4 combat armor, but she'd never had cause to use it. However, she kept this to herself—nothing could match the sentiment of armor crafted personally by Feng Mo.

Once they returned to Chu Yunjian's estate, she helped Feng Mo into a recovery pod. As the pod's door closed, a blue liquid enveloped him.

"Scanning… Patient has sustained severe internal trauma, stomach bleeding, and four fractured ribs."
