Wyonna's heart sank, and she stopped approaching when she heard that Shane was talking gently on the phone. Her intuition told her that he was definitely talking to a woman on the other end.

She began to wonder how he managed to get some other woman after both of them stopped seeing each other for mere days. She then speculated who that woman was and if she was younger or prettier than her.

Shane started the engine of his car and drove right past her before she came to her senses.

Wyonna's hair and skirt billowed as the car drove past. Her mind was as much a mess as her appearance at the moment, yet she didn't turn around, for she didn't want him to see that she still cared. She took a deep breath, steeled herself, and kept walking forward.

Shane drove very slowly, checking Wyonna's disappearing silhouette in the rearview mirror. His hands clenched hard on the wheel. He then floored the gas pedal and sped.
