The next morning, Maverick received another letter from the palace, but this time it bore the royal seal of Princess Abigail.
He broke the seal and unfolded the letter, his brow furrowing as he read the urgent request.
Abigail was asking for his immediate assistance in Dover town. With no time to waste, Maverick moved swiftly.
After finishing his work for the day, Maverick called for Henry. "Henry, I'll be out of town for a few days. It's an urgent matter. You can make decisions in my absence. I trust your judgment."
Henry bowed respectfully. "Thank you for your trust, my lord. I will do my best in your stead."
Maverick nodded and left for his quarters to change, bringing along his silver blade. When he approached the front door, he saw his horse already prepared outside.
