Chapter 68: The Shadow Over Shrek
In just the first exchange, Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing were rendered powerless by Xiao Yu, causing the remaining Shrek Five Monsters to change their expressions drastically.
Xiao Yu scanned his surroundings, finally fixing his gaze on Ma Hongjun, the one with the Mohawk.
"First Soul Skill, Phoenix Fire Wire!"
"Second Soul Skill, Bathing Fire Phoenix!"
Sensing Xiao Yu's unfriendly stare, Ma Hongjun panicked and hurriedly released both his first and second soul skills at Xiao Yu.
"Your flames are much weaker than I expected!"
Xiao Yu channeled his soul power to shield himself, and the purple-red flames couldn't even get close. Ma Hongjun's Evil Fire Phoenix contained too many impurities; while stronger than ordinary flames, it was nothing compared to the fire attributes of Xiao Yu's teammates.
Not to mention the ultimate fire of Yihui's Phoenix Martial Soul, even Tsunemori's flames were stronger than Ma Hongjun's Phoenix Fire Wire. It barely surpassed the flame control of Huo Wu.
Over the years, Xiao Yu had sparred countless times with these fiery teammates. The meager evil fire was nothing to him anymore.
Just as Ma Hongjun spewed flames, he saw a blur in front of him. Xiao Yu, dressed in black, appeared right before him. Before he could react, Xiao Yu's fist smashed into his chubby round face, sending him flying like a cannonball and creating a large crater in the ground.
"Enough, stop!"
An angry voice rang out, and a tall figure appeared before the Shrek Seven Monsters—it was Zhao Wuji.
Zhao Wuji's face was so dark it seemed like it would drip water. He couldn't believe that his proud little monster students were so powerless against their opponent. More importantly, Xiao Yu's actions were too fast. In just a few seconds, he had already taken down three students before Zhao Wuji could react. If he had acted any later, the remaining four would have likely met the same fate as Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ma Hongjun.
Seeing Zhao Wuji, the remaining four sighed in relief. Tang San withdrew his hand from the Moonlit Night Falls, his eyes mocking as he stared at Xiao Yu from a distance. He couldn't believe Zhao Wuji, a Soul Saint, couldn't handle Xiao Yu.
"You've got a lot of nerve, daring to harm Shrek Academy's students!"
Zhao Wuji glanced at the three on the ground. Zhu Zhuqing seemed fine, but Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun were curled up in pain, clearly severely injured. Zhao Wuji glared at Xiao Yu. "It was just a spar, did you have to go so hard?"
"I didn't even use my martial soul. If they can't take one punch from me, it's their own fault for being too weak!"
Xiao Yu sneered. "It all comes down to your academy being useless, producing students with no real skills!"
"How dare you insult Shrek Academy!"
Zhao Wuji was instantly enraged, his eyes blazing as he glared at Xiao Yu. "Kid, looks like I need to teach you how to behave properly in the world!"
Seven soul rings—two yellow, two purple, and three black—rose from him, as he activated his Vigorous Vajra Bear. Zhao Wuji, now exuding a chilling aura, said, "Apologize to my students properly, or else, don't blame me for being rude!"
"Teacher Zhao, give him a good beating!" Xiao Wu cheered from behind, while Ning Rongrong couldn't help but feel speechless. A nearly fifty-year-old Soul Saint bullying a young man under twenty—it would be laughable if word got out. Xiao Wu seemed to find it honorable rather than shameful.
"I'd like to see how rude you can be!"
At that moment, another angry voice rang out. Dressed in black, Hui Ho stepped in front of Xiao Yu. Glaring at Zhao Wuji, who was now in his martial soul form, Hui Ho sneered, "At your age, bullying the young, aren't you ashamed?"
Zhao Wuji, being the natural troublemaker he was, felt no shame at Hui Ho's reprimand. Instead, he replied arrogantly, "So, you must be this kid's mentor. In that case, it's not bullying if I fight you. Let's settle this with our strength!"
"I'm not afraid of you!"
Hui Ho snorted coldly. His Bennu Bird martial soul, surrounded by black flames, appeared more dazzling in the night. The sight of two yellow, two purple, and four black soul rings instantly halted the Shrek group's aggressive demeanor. Xiao Wu quickly retracted her martial soul, pressing her lips tightly together to conceal her presence.
"Seventh Soul Skill, Vigorous Vajra Bear True Form."
Facing a Soul Douluo, Zhao Wuji didn't hesitate and immediately activated his martial soul true form. He transformed into a five or six-meter-tall giant bear, swinging his massive arms and charging at Hui Ho with his Vigorous Vajra Palm.
"Foolish!"
Hui Ho sneered. He was no ordinary Soul Douluo; he had already reached the level of a quasi-Title Douluo at ninety soul power. Facing Zhao Wuji's full force, Hui Ho didn't even need to use his martial soul true form. He simply utilized his sixth soul skill, Solar Corona Gale.
A terrifying gale infused with black flames rushed toward Zhao Wuji. He quickly halted his charge, crossed his massive arms in front of him, and tried to withstand the attack with his formidable physique.
But the gap in their power levels was too great, and Hui Ho's martial soul far surpassed Zhao Wuji's in quality. The fierce wind sent Zhao Wuji flying, crashing into the ground and creating a deep pit, just like his students Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun. His body was covered in Hui Ho's black flames, leaving him in a sorry state.
"Teacher Zhao!"
Only then did Tang San and the others react. Tang San and Oscar rushed to Zhao Wuji's side and helped him out of the pit, while Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong followed closely behind. Oscar quickly used his first soul skill to produce a large sausage, which he handed to Zhao Wuji. Zhao Wuji took it and began to chew vigorously.
Hui Ho didn't stop Zhao Wuji from consuming the sausage. Even if Zhao Wuji recovered, it would only take one more strike to defeat him. Moreover, a Grandmaster's first soul skill could only restore so much.
Zhao Wuji understood this as well. After swallowing the sausage and taking a deep breath, he looked at Hui Ho and said, "This time, I, Old Zhao, failed to recognize a true master. Do as you wish with me, but please don't trouble my students. They are still young and have a long future ahead of them."
Despite being a troublemaker with many flaws, Zhao Wuji, like Flender, deeply cared for his students. He was highly protective of them, always standing by their side regardless of right or wrong.
