Chapter 4: Confrontation

「YOU BASTARD! WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FAMILY?!」

We could hear Roen's thunderous voice outside the confessional. The priest was stunned for a moment, but soon regained his composure. We went outside and saw a large crowd outside. Most of them were women and in front was Roen and Xerxes. Xerxes gave me a wink to which I had no reaction to.

Roen charged forward and held the priest by his collar.

「ANSWER ME! WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FAMILY?!」

Roen shook the priest. The priest in turn tried to calm him down, but he was overpowered by Roen.

「Calm down Roen! This is a plot of the beast.」

Roen slowly let him down after hearing this. The priest let out a sigh of relief and fixed his clothes.

「YOU ARE THE BEAST!」

As soon as Roen said this, the church was shaken with the sound of crashing. The priest now lies on the debris of the chairs he crashed on. The priest tried to stand however he only managed to sit with much struggle.

「Do not do this Roen. This is what the beast wants to happen.」

He pleaded with Roen. However the man he was talking to had no intentions of doing so. Although the church was crowded, no one dared to help the priest or to stop Roen. After what seemed like an eternity, the stare down was disturbed when a rock hit the priest. Soon the people in the crowd followed suit and everyone started to pick up their own stones to throw. A stone hit the priest in the face which resulted his forehead to bleed.

「You lecherous priest!」

「You did not even spare my child!」

「I feel disgusted with myself after what you did!」

「How could you sleep at night knowing your crimes!」

One after the other, the women in the crowd started shouting and crying. Their child were also crying along with them. The men tried to comfort those who are crying by patting their backs and hugging them while giving the priest a look of great anger and disgust.

「HAHAHAHAHAHA!」

The crying was stopped by the priest's manic laugh. He shifted his position with great difficulty, however the smirk on his face did not fade. He took the bracelet in his sleeve and raised it for everyone to see. The pink gleam changed something in Roen's demeanor.

「Tha-that's Elly's...HOW DARE YOU!」

His temporary shock immediately changed to immediate anger. He charged forward towards the priest. My foot somehow moved on its own and I went in between him and the priest as I shouted for him to stop. I closed my eyes waiting for the pain inflicted by the blade. I know that the priest deserves the death however, I knew that Roen doesn't deserve bearing that sin. It wouldn't be what his wife and child wanted.

However the blade never touched me. I opened my eyes and saw that Xerxes was in front of me and using a dagger he stopped the blade.

「Don't do this Roen.」

「GET OUT OF THE WAY!」

「They, Elly and Anya, wouldn't want to you to do that.」

Roen's pressure on the blade seemed to lessen after their short discussion and soon he dropped the sword. He kneeled and started to sob.

「Anya... I'm sorry.. I couldn't even... fulfill my promise...」

「Elly...Papa's sorry... he... he... can't... protect you and mama...」

I approached him and hugged him. Mimicking what that person did before. I patted his back and soon he was weeping. I allowed him to hold on to my shoulders.

「He...hehe.. Do you know what Elly said before I dirtied her?」

As soon as the priest said this, I could feel Roen's crying stop, he was shaking. The weak grip he had on my shoulder started to tighten.

「She cried "Papa! I'm scared! Papa save me! Where are you mama and papa?! Why did you leave me all alone! Papa!"」

Roen's gripped started to hurt.

「He's trying to provoke you. Don't give in. No matter what, you must not dirty your hands with his hand.」

I tried to calm him down. In return his grip got tigher. It was painful, however I could not let it show in my face. I nodded towards Xerxes saying that I was okay, to which he nodded back. He predicted that the priest would try to provoke Roen. So we had to make sure he wont give in so that the plan would proceed successfully.

「Until the end- She was crying and calling your name. Ah, like mother , like daughter, Anya also called out your name for help. HAHAHA」

The priest shouted once more. Roen's grip dropped. I hugged him tightly, I have to make sure he stays in place.

「YOU!!」

As if on cue, sounds of footsteps filled the air. and soon the place was filled with armed people in blue uniform and people dressed in white. If I recall correctly from one of my books, it said the armed people were the imperial guards. Seeing that the clothes of those in white was similar to the priest, I assume that they were also people of the clergy.

「Brother. You brought shame to the church, I must say that both the church and the Queen is disappointed in you. Aside from the sins you professed earlier, we also found out your involvement in other crimes. From here on out you are excommunicated by the church and will have no more connection to you.」

The man in white declared.The guards in him immediately rushed forward and carried the priest in question away.
