Not Singing Backup

When it came to the type of relationship that she and Derek normally had. If Emily were to describe it, she would use terms normally used in music. For example, if Derek was the lead singer, then she was the backup singer. If he came up with a tune, then she supplied the beats. 

It was always him leading. And whatever it was that he came up with, she made sure to back him up so that they made something that was cohesive. That was the way that things were for them. But in this situation, it seemed that the status quo would have to change. Had Derek really just given her a list of days for when he would be ready to have a good night's rest and just expected her to go along with it?
