Bonding

"Okay, so, we agree that we like each other but we don't want to risk losing each other so we'll take this slow?" Ivy double checks with Jackson.

"Yes, Ivy. I like you, a lot, but you're also one of the most important people in my life. I'm not gonna rush this and end up losing you. So, as long as we can progress in our relationship, I'm good with whatever," He tells her, kissing her after.

Ivy pulls away, smiling, "Okay then. Come on, we don't want to be late."

Ivy walks into the residents lounge, holding a gift basket from Mayo and another from UCLA, "Okay, first Cristina gets one from the N.I.H., now you get two?"

"Who are they from?" Jackson asks, going to stand behind her.

"UCLA and Mayo. There's another one in my office from Hopkins," Ivy sighs.

Owen walks in, "Theres a trauma coming in on the roof. Oh, Shepherd? Where are these from?"

Jackson points out, "Worried your going to lose your star resident, Chief?"

Owen shakes his head, "Uh, no. Kepner, Shepherd, come with me."

"I gotta leave for my Northwestern interview in an hour. I told you yesterday," April says.

"She did," Ivy backs her up.

"Um, Avery?"

Ivy answers as Jackson kisses her and then steals one of the cookies, "He's with Sloan all day. Meredith's free."

Owen nods, "Okay, great. Shepherd, Grey, let's go."

They run to the helipad with him, "Female hiker found at the bottom of a ravine. Positive L.O.C with obvious head and abdominal trauma, hypothermia, frostbite, you name it."

"Lets go," they quickly get into the elevator and head down.

"Airway looks clear," Meredith says.

"Weakened pulse," Owen says, quickly checking her pupils.

Ivy sees her responsive and moves forward, "I'm Dr. Shepherd. You're in the hospital. Can you tell us your name?" She starts gasping for air, "Okay, okay. Let's go."

Owen clears a path, "Lets go. Outta the way."

Ivy sets the patient up to get her scans, "Okay, I'm gonna be right on the other side of that glass. You just try to stay calm."

As Ivy goes to leave, her wrist is grabbed by the patient. Ivy sees a bruising pattern on her wrist and then looks at her ankles to see marks there too, "You weren't hiking out there, were you?"

She shakes her head as Owen calls over the mic, "Whats the holdup, Shepherd?"

"I'm staying in. Get me an apron," Ivy commands.

"Okay. Here you go," she takes it and quickly gets it on, before turning back and grabbing the patients hand, "Okay, I'm gonna stay with you. I'm not leaving. I'll be right here the whole time."

Ivy stands with Meredith and Owen looking at the scans in the O.R., as Meredith says, "She was abused. It's all over the scans."

"Okay, so, we need to call the police," Ivy says.

"Just stay calm. We don't know anything for sure until she talks," Owen tells them.

Derek calls out, "Hunt, she has a temporal bone fracture. I'm gonna have to do a middle fossa approach."

Bailey adds, "Okay, there's an aneurysm in her celiac artery. I'll need to put a graft in."

"She's ready to be put under, chief," Knox tells Owen.

Ivy calls out, "Wait. You were running from someone, right? Is that how you fell?" She gets a nod, "No one's gonna hurt you. We just need to know your name."

"He-he called me Susan. But I-I think it's Holly," she says.

Ivy walks back into the O.R. with Owen, "Bailey, Shepherd, can you stop for a moment?"

"What is it?" Derek asks.

"The police want us to check for a birthmark under her arm," Ivy tells them.

Bailey lifts up the covering on her side to see no mark, but Ivy adds, "The other side, further up."

They do so and see the mark.

Derek and Ivy stand next to Holly's bed, "Can you wiggle your toes? Painful? Yeah, you hit your head pretty hard when you fell. But you're doing great, okay?"

He nods to the people standing outside the room to come in, "Holly, I'm Dr. Fincher. I'm a therapist who works for the hospital. Is it okay if the police ask you a few questions? Only if you feel up to it."

Holly looks to Ivy who nods at her. Holly nods and the police enter, "Do you know his name, Holly. The man that was keeping you?"

"Its okay," Ivy says, as Holly look to her for support.

"Joseph. Joseph Ingles," she says.

The detectives look at each other before one leaves, "Thats great. Really helpful. Now can you tell us anything about where you were living? Was it a house, an apartment?"

"It was a house. One story. It has a basement."

"Do you know if there was any roads nearby? Could you hear cars?" The detective asks.

Holly's voice breaks as she speaks, "He didn't let me go outside."

"Holly, we can stop if you need to. Just let us know," Dr. Fincher tells her.

She nods at Ivy who says, "Okay, then. Maybe we should- we should take a break."

Ivy walks out of Holly's room to hear Fincher say, "I understand, but the protocol is to call psych right away. You didn't, and now out patient has bonded with a surgeon."

"My name is Dr. Shepherd and I understand the represcussions of this. I did a year studying psychology under Dr. Kathleen Shepherd and I am probably the most well-equipped surgeon for her to have bonded with. Don't yell at Chief Hunt for the break in protocol, that's on me," Ivy says, coming to stand next to her brother.

"Fine, Holly has chosen you. There's no breaking your bond now. So you need to stay with Holly at least until her parents arrive. Now, I have parents awaiting my call," Fincher leaves.
