Reminscence

In a dimly lit room, a toddler was cradled by a woman with blue eyes and a warm smile. The room they were in looked extravagant and expensive. Multiple ornaments were hanging seemingly handmade. "My baby is so beautiful, and I hope you will grow into a fine young man. Adam, remember to always extend a hand to those in need and don't initiate unnecessary fights"

"Of course mama, I know that if I do, you will be there to scold me and tell me what to do if I come across a situation like that." Adam looked towards his mother with a puzzled expression as he spoke. The woman, named Miriel, smiled sadly as she leaned down to kiss her son.

"I will not be here for a long time my baby boy so I hope you will stick to what I taught you. I know you will be a good man who will not discriminate against someone regardless of race."

"But Mama, aren't monsters bad people? I heard that the only monsters that are good are the elves because they look and act like humans. Should I still act nice to the bad monsters like vampires and dragons when I grow up Mama?" Miriel was conflicted about how to answer her child.

"Baby, just know that being a good person will make you be liked by everyone, even if it is a vampire or dragon, don't be mean to them. I will be leaving soon but, I will come back to you soon okay Adam?" Adam nodded and jumped down cutely before giving his mother a small kiss.

"Mama, I will be kind to monsters because I know that not all of them are bad. Mama is an elf and she is still so kind to me so I will never be mean to monsters, bye Mommy." Adam then ran out of the room excitedly to play with his cat. Little did he know that he said his last words to his mother that day, as a mere 3-year-old.

......

Adam, Richard and Carmilla were resting as night was nearing and it is dangerous to travel at night regardless of the place. Adam was resting under a tree with a blank look as he stared at the sky. He had a locket in his grasp as he held it as though he was afraid of losing it.

"Adam, what's wrong? You seem out of it today" Carmilla asked me with her voice tinted with worry. I continued looking at the sky as I remembered the time my father and siblings told me about my mother's death. I turned to look at Carmilla before smiling lightly and looking away to the moon. Alara's moon had a very predictable cycle and yet I was unable to predict the next night's phase. I paid no mind to it before I stood up and took Carmilla's hand and led her to our tent.

Due to our feud with the wolf, I was unable to sleep with Carmilla beside me so I took this peaceful night as a sign. Luckily we had no problems this time except for the glares Richard would give us occasionally. I was able to tell that he had no intention of attacking me but he bore a deep hatred for me and I have no reason to judge him for that.

"Were you okay back there by the tree? You looked lost and were holding that pendant. I have never seen you wearing it before." Carmilla voiced her concerns about me and I felt touched.

"This is not necessarily a pendant, it's more of a locket that was given to me by mother before her passing. I have not been able to open it so I just keep it hidden in my clothes.

"I see... what happened to your mother? It's my first time hearing about her, she seems to hold a special place in your heart." I frowned at her question before quickly composing myself, but she caught the shift in demeanour before dismissing the question entirely. I called Zephyr over from a corner before cuddling with her with Carmilla facing me.

IM BAAAACK!!!

I have finally finished my exams and am now able to fully focus on the book. Leave a few comments below and maybe a few powerstones ;)
