Much Needed Rest

{Carmilla's POV}

I was setting up our tent for the night with Zephyr wrapped around my neck and while I was doing it, I kept shooting glances towards Adam's lone figure sitting under a tree. Today he had been... distant and I was worried because he never showed vulnerability when around Richard. The only time he is vulnerable is when he is with me, and he is never distant, only carefree and aloof. I finished setting up the tent and was about to sit down to rest before Adam called out to us in a flustered voice.

"Milly, Richard, look up to the moon!" I was lost before slowly turning my head up to the moon, yet I realized that the moon was different and seemed... full. I kept looking up as my mind thought of what could be happening but I was at a loss regarding the moon. It was then that I saw something happen to Adam at the side of my eye.

Adam's locket suddenly glowed white in his shirt before it flew and suspended itself in mid-air and started to transform into various weapons and trinkets while Adam's hair grew until it stopped by his waist with streaks of white mixed in it creating a beautiful gradient of brown and white while his eyes became white as though he was blind, but what surprised me the most is how his ears grew to resemble that of an elf's. His locket finally settled down but what surprised me most is when it turned into a hexagonal item with multiple blocks rapidly spinning around . I was completely enamored by his appearance before I broke out of my daze when his angelic voice called out.

"Block my attack as much as you can, I need to test something quickly." I had a confused expression while I obliged and entered a defensive stance and braced myself. I watched him close his eyes and breathe out a gust of air that changed the temperature around drastically, and from the change, I started shivering subtly. He took some time with his eyes closed and he seemed as calm as a lake. The thing that intrigued me the most though, is how I couldn't sense his presence despite him only being a few feet away from me. I waited for a bit wondering why he was taking his time, it was then when I felt my body screaming at me to evade but I was unable to react as I felt a sharp weapon merely centimetres away from my neck.

I didn't even look down as I stared at the place he was at before where an afterimage remained looking like an exact replica of him. I have enough speed to keep up with the speed of sound and the best I can leave is a blur that vanishes a moment later. I broke out into a cold sweat despite the cold that surrounded us. I saw him looking into my eyes calmy as though he isn't half a finger's length away from killing someone and I blushed heavily at his mesmerizing appearance. I quickly jumped back before watching his weapon turn into a hairpin that flew into his hair beautifully. He then looked up before murmuring something barely audible, but I still heard him, and he struck a chord in my heart.

I watched him revert back into his regular appearance and I sighed in disappointment at the sight. When I saw his elven appearance, I had thoughts I never thought I would have, but he had me in a trap when his looks altered, and I felt sad and disappointed at his original appearance. He looked at me with a warm smile as though he read my thoughts before he his body went limp, and he collapsed with a thud. I shook off my disappointment and went to help him into the tent before tending to him. I tended to him for a bit before I dozed off from the tiredness of today, which was strange since I can go for a week with no rest, but I paid mind to it and fell asleep with Zephyr and Adam in my embrace.

I feel unwell but I will try to publish these chapters daily
