Orders And a Discovery

The words were hanging in their mouths, unable to be pronounced. A new world? New feelings? A new life? When did they gain the ability to consider something like this? What Kyel had proposed was still a distant dream, and everyone realized that. Perhaps there was a chance in the future—yes, there was a chance!

Kyel might succeed in achieving it; maybe following him was a good path. Even if he didn't succeed, living with the idea and the goal of accomplishing such a thing was something they had never thought of before and had never dared to consider, even in their wildest dreams.

Azalt, Bentia, Gilbert, and Simon—all four of them looked on, their eyes filled with a mix of fear for the future, excitement, and some curiosity. They were waiting for Kyel, wondering what he would say next, what their first step would be, how they would operate within the magical tower's premises, and which goals they would pursue first. They awaited answers to these questions from Kyel.

He didn't disappoint them, but he also didn't start by answering those questions. Instead, he began to present some facts that needed to be etched in their minds. In a voice conveying nothing but indifference, Kyel spoke, "I know it's hard to believe, but this is what I want, and maybe you want it too. But it won't be easy. We have to be careful. The magical towers are not child's play. There are many smart, cunning, and strong people here. So we have to stay low-key and humble."

Kyel continued, "In the face of brute force, plans fall apart, and cunning fails, so it's difficult to be precise because we are still very weak. Currently, the Dark Duke might think that most of us have been wiped out due to the mental seal being broken, which means there might be a wave of demons coming next year. But that's not what concerns us right now. All I want is for you to become stronger."

Their eyes seemed to ask, How will we become stronger? In response, Kyel took out some money—a lot of money. Redderen had left him what seemed to be more than 10,000 gold coins, so he decided to give 1,000 gold coins to each of the four to buy equipment and mana crystals for cultivating.

As they understood what this meant, they were elated. Kyel had decided to give them a fortune they had never dreamed of so they could begin cultivating and make themselves strong. But why? Kyel, the proud and selfish one who thought himself above everyone, was doing all this for them. Moreover, he had broken the mental seal that bound them. Had he changed in these past days? Something strange was happening, but they didn't doubt much, especially since they were the beneficiaries of it. They were grateful to him; he had made them dream of a chance for a better life.

Kyel's red-blooded eyes glowed with a faint light. He looked out the window at the full moon in the sky. He seemed lost in thought, but he hadn't forgotten the important matter at hand: this meeting. He currently had four followers, so he needed to give orders about what they should do in the coming days.

He ordered, "First, use this money to buy what you need to increase your strength. Second, I want you to spread rumors about Kyel Everhart. Say that the guards and the protectors succeeded in capturing him. The rumor won't last long, but spread it anyway. The other thing I need you to do is gather some information about three professors in particular: Caspian Huther, Caleb Benz, and Dwayne Dwight."

They were all professors in the fields of theory and experimentation. It may seem strange, but for heaven's sake, this is a magical tower. Why would they teach such a specialty, and even more, have three professors in the same field? Additionally, there was no information about students in this specialty. Strange, isn't it? Can you do it?

There was no verbal answer, but their eyes were clear; everything would be done as Kyel requested.

Kyel thought, Investment, huh? I know what I'm doing, but for how long? Everything is sealed inside me. This is my way of getting some of it back.

Kyel looked at Simon, "Change your room; we have some rooms available."

Kyel moved toward the door to leave, but then he turned back and smiled a fake smile. "Was it delicious?"

Simon replied, blood in his mouth, "A little."

"Then so be it," was the last thing Kyel said before leaving the room, and the curtain fell on the first meeting of the demons. It wasn't exactly as Kyel had wanted, but he gained something that would make him invulnerable for a while, along with four followers in whom he invested for the near future.

---

Kyel didn't return to his room that night, simply because it was no longer his room. He was currently Redderen Malzar, and with this new identity, some things were now possible.

Kyel made his way to Redderen Malzar's apartment, a place of luxury befitting the heir of the Malzar family. The apartment had two rooms, a bathroom, and a view of the eastern side of the magical tower, where there was an entrance to the forest. It was a nice apartment, but when Kyel entered, he discovered something: bloodstains leading to a room. As he followed them, Kyel reached a blood-soaked room filled with corpses.

These were perhaps the bodies of the demons Redderen had hunted. Redderen had accidentally discovered the presence of demons in the magical tower and decided to eliminate them alone without telling anyone. He wanted to kill all the demons and then inform the magical tower's management to take all the credit and praise. This was how he had been raised in his crazy family, but everything had gone unexpectedly, and he was killed in the end.

Kyel noticed that the bodies were decomposing and rotting. Fortunately, he had no sense of smell. How had Redderen managed to sleep here in the first place? Why hadn't the foul smell escaped outside? How had he brought all those bodies here without anyone noticing? These were Kyel's thoughts at the moment.

However, some items caught Kyel's attention: vials and surgical equipment, some manuscripts, papers, and utensils. The room looked like an operating or surgical room. Had Redderen been looking for something?

But Kyel soon discovered something else: a collection of 19 black cores gathered in a large vial. The cores were the size of a fist—the demonic core! Redderen had been extracting demonic cores from the demons' bodies, but this was forbidden, especially here in the magical tower. Any operations or research violating the laws stipulated by the Mages Organization were considered heretical, black magic, and tied to dubious activities.

Yet there was a missing core. Twenty-five demons, five bodies remaining, and only nineteen cores—one core was missing.
