A few months had passed and the team was now deep in the forest on a soul beast hunting mission. A figure moved swiftly through the woods, landing gracefully on branches without making a sound. It was Ling Ren and he was scouting the area ahead.

"There are no large soul beasts nearby. About two kilometers ahead, there's a thousand-year-old golden chinchilla." Ling Ren reported to his teammates, including Wang Feng, Silk Rong and Old Black.

The team was hired by Lady Lin Shan, a noble from Fasnuo province. She had reached level 30 and had hired them to hunt down a thousand-year-old soul beasts in the Soul Hunting forest, offering a reward of fifty gold soul coins to per person.

Wang Feng, now at level 20, had also spent time searching for a suitable second soul ring but had not found one yet. Hence, he joined Silk Rong and the others for this mission while waiting for the right opportunity.

"The golden chinchilla is sensitive to odors. We might have already alerted it already from two kilometers away," Wang Feng warned. He wore a black robe and a mask, speaking with a hint of seriousness.

He had reached level 20 even before visiting Holy Soul Village. Despite searching for a suitable soul beast for his second soul ring, he hadn't found one yet.

We've been discovered by the golden chinchilla. Resting here at night might also lead to a joint soul beast attack," Wang Feng continued.

"And we're in the depths of the forest, there's no telling if there are higher-level soul beasts around. It's better to set up camp outside and rest for the night."

Silk Rong nodded in agreement, glancing at Wang Feng with admiration. She had noticed how much he had matured over the past year. Though unaware of his actual age, she suspected he was around fifteen or sixteen and often displayed a keen intellect.

Unbeknownst to her, Wang Feng was only around seven years old and because of his what you might call 'body cultivation' with the help of Meteoric Tears, he appeared older than his actual age.

"No! We'll rest here. Leaving and coming back again would take too much time and I want my soul ring as fast as I can!" Lady Lin Shan, the noble, objected.

Wang Feng frowned, observing Lady Lin Shan and her attendant, who wore a black long coat that concealed her figure. The noble lady's generous reward was the only reason they had accepted this commission, despite the odd request.

"She's the employer; we should follow her lead," Silk Rong said, also not wishing to delay the mission by leaving the forest.

"Alright." Wang Feng agreed, and the team camped on the spot, consuming their prepared dry rations.

Old Black, while eating, whispered to Wang Feng, "Brother Thanos, you should be close to level 20 by now. When the time comes, we'll also help you find a suitable soul beast. With your strength, you could probably even deal with Soul Elders after acquiring the second soul ring."

Wang Feng chuckled, "We'll see when the time comes."

The three teammates were unaware that Wang Feng had already reached level 20.

As they ate, Wang Feng casually asked, "Old Black, what do you think about Lady Lin Shan's servant? What do you think about his strength?"

Old Black shrugged, "I'd say he's about as strong as us. Why do you ask? It doesn't matter, Lady Lin Shan is our employer."

Wang Feng smiled but couldn't shake a strange feeling about Lady Lin Shan and her servant. He suspected that the servant might be much stronger than Silk Rong and the others, perhaps even about level 40.

Yet, it was puzzling that they needed assistance to hunt down soul beasts when someone of that strength could handle it alone.

Could it be for insurance? Over the past year, Wang Feng and Silk Rong had accepted various soul beast hunting commissions, even from noble children but they had never encountered a situation like this.

Wang Feng retired to the tent, his mind filled with questions. He continued his meditation routine, even though his soul power had reached a bottleneck, making it impossible to progress. It had become a habit for him.

The night was calm, illuminated by the high, bright moon. But suddenly, a piercing scream shattered the silence.

In an instant, Wang Feng shot up, his eyes wide and he rushed out of the tent. What he saw outside made his heart race.

"Old Black, Ling Ren!" Wang Feng exclaimed in shock.

Both of his teammates lay on the ground, their screams still echoing in the air. Their hands appeared to have been severed by a sharp weapon. What was even more bizarre was that they seemed to have just woken up, their faces marked with confusion and panic.

Standing near them were the mysterious old servant and Lady Lin Shan. Behind Lin Shan, Silk Rong was restrained and looked bewildered, clearly not comprehending what had transpired.

"Did you do this?" Wang Feng's anger flared like a raging fire, ready to explode. He stared at Lady Lin Shan with accusing eyes.

"Teacher Mo, why doesn't he seem affected by your spirit skills?" Lady Lin Shan asked, her tone filled with bewilderment.

However, Lady Lin Shan received no response.

Teacher Mo, the old servant, also regarded Wang Feng with an odd expression. "This kid is merely an auxiliary system soul master. My soul skill, 'Nightmare' can temporarily deprive sleeping people of their consciousness and senses. Unless he's higher level than me and these three are only in their thirties, this kid is just a soul power recovery soul master, incapable of defeating someone over level twenty..."

"It's impossible for him to be immune to my nightmares. However, if he wasn't asleep, then my nightmare also couldn't affect him," Teacher Mo explained.

Hearing this, Lady Lin Shan sighed and turned her gaze toward Wang Feng, her voice tinged with exasperation. "Kid, you're quite lucky..."

Wang Feng stared coldly at the two injured teammates, berating himself for not sensing that something was amiss. He knew he should have terminated the commission earlier when he had a feeling that things weren't right.

With a heavy heart, he retrieved the dagger near Ling Ren, stood up and fixed a cold, penetrating gaze on Lady Lin Shan and Teacher Mo. The fury within him was incomparable.

"Thanos, run away... he is a Soul Ancestor with four soul rings...! And his... soul skills are very weird... I was just doing the night watch and only took a nap. But when I woke up my hands were gone..." Ling Blade managed to grit out these words before losing consciousness.

The Old Black also struggled to speak, saying, "Quick... escape..."

Wang Feng desperately wanted to use the golden lotus to heal his fallen comrades but doing so right now would leave him powerless and vulnerable.

"You still think you can do something, boy?"

Lin Shan taunted, her confidence unwavering.

"You're just an auxiliary system soul master. No matter how strong you are, you can't defeat Teacher Mo. Surrender quietly."

As Lin Shan finished speaking, Teacher Mo, the old servant, exuded a powerful aura and four soul rings emerged from beneath him – two yellow and two purple.

"Thanos! Run first! These two won't kill us for now. They want to use us as bait for soul beasts!"

Silk Rong shouted from behind. "You run and don't worry about us."

Wang Feng finally grasped their true intentions. In a previous mission, they had heard rumors of certain nobles breeding and hunting specific soul beasts in the forest. They would use low-level soul masters as bait to accelerate the soul beasts' growth.

This gruesome method of cultivation was horrifyingly rare and Wang Feng and his team had dismissed it as mere rumors.

But now, they were living that nightmare.

Lin Shan sneered, "You think you know it all. I chose you four because you're strong but not too strong. Perfect for Huang'er's breakthrough. If you surrender now and join us, I might spare your life. With the three of them, Huang'er can reach a thousand years. You'd be redundant."

Lin Shan's beautiful face, inherited from her aristocratic lineage, now bore a venomous expression, as if she were a scorpion.

Ignoring their words, Wang Feng activated the Golden Lotus, its radiant glow enveloping Ling Ren and Old Black. It stopped their injuries from worsening but they remained unconscious.

Lin Shan and Teacher Mo watched in astonishment as the injuries healed rapidly, their faces filled with shock.

"Boy, your martial soul seems to do more than just restore soul power," Lin Shan stammered, her eyes gleaming with an odd curiosity. "It can also heal injuries quite effectively! Teacher Mo, have you ever seen a martial soul like this?"

The old servant, equally amazed, stared at Wang Feng. He had encountered soul masters above level 40 but none of them could heal injuries this quickly.

"No, there are even more remarkable aspects to it," Wang Feng replied coldly, his eyes devoid of emotion, except for a burning determination.

"But you won't get the chance to find out."

As he spoke, a deep purple soul ring slowly ascended from beneath his feet.
