ShapeShifters

Max had lived a normal life, oblivious to the fact that humanoid monsters which named themselves 'Shapeshifters' existed all around the world hidden within society. As he grew up Max followed a path in life normal to humans but in doing so he accidentally became one of the shapeshifters, this turn of events revealing to him a different side of the world he thought he knew. Special Treatment

The week passed by just like that and Max's integration with Matt was a complete success while their compatibility was almost perfect. During the time he had to get accustomed to his new body Max realized that his senses were sharper while his reaction was now a lot faster than before.

This wasn't because his instincts had a leap in ability but it was because Matt usually responded instantly to the surroundings if Max wasn't able to. This was the way they made to be able to coexist in balance; Max lived his life as normal but when instincts came into play it was Matt's turn to show his colors.

Such an approach on the matter made the risks of integration non-existent while Max's battle prowess escalated to a higher degree.

It was Monday once more and Max was on the way to his class alongside Mark once again, they talked while getting to their location, and shortly after they arrived their teacher did as well which surprisingly was Alexander once again.

"Now don't be that surprised; I know it is strange but your class gets special treatment. I am the strongest practical teacher in the academy and was appointed as your primary practical teacher from today." He said, sweeping his gaze on all the students in front of him that were in a line.

"Now what does a primary practical teacher mean? It is pretty simple, as a primary teacher you will have one practical week with me every other practical hour week that you don't. As an example for those who didn't get me: this week you will have all your practical hours with me while the next time you have practical hours, you'll have a random teacher. This cycle repeats himself until the year ends." He explained, taking his time while making all of the students understand.

"Now, why is it that you guys get such special treatment? It's another simple question. It is because you are the best first-year class. You might also think 'But why don't the other strongest classes of their respective years get it instead', it's because the beginning for a magician is the most important." He looked around once more, seeing expressions of delight and happiness overcoming the small crowd of 20 people.

"Those from the strongest classes know that and leave the better teachers to you the first years and this is for more reasons anyway. One is that you can't become as strong as them without finding a path to become strong on your own; depending on others to teach you will be both inefficient and temporary." Bringing their morale down was necessary, guidance was necessary of course but they also needed to be able to grow on their own; otherwise they will be a nuisance to anyone they party with in the future.

"Now that I got all of that boring stuff out of the way, it's time to revise your abilities." Alexander pulled a sheet of paper and inspected it before talking once again.

"When the competition happened, each of you was scored through a hidden system to assess your strength. This was put in place because sometimes impressive students end up fighting each other, giving an advantage to the winner while the loser gets nothing but he or she should; things like this happen in a competition making the competition slightly unfair" He smirked as he looked at the scores that were graded in four letters: C, B, A, and respectively S. Those scores were also accompanied by either minuses or pluses, showcasing that their ability is slightly lower than an average or higher respectively.

'Max Edward; Physique A-, Aptitude A, Growth S+; Recommended way of instructing – Slight guidance upon request otherwise left alone' He read the first line which corresponded to the strongest individual in the class.

'Oh, so he is worth looking after; He won't disappoint us at least that is for certain' Alexander thought before landing his gaze right on Max. There were a lot of variables that the academy higher-ups considered while giving their yearly gradings and so receiving an S- in any of the three statistics was difficult but Max was able to get an S+ which meant there was little to no improvement to be done when it came to his training regime.

Physique was the statistic that signified a ratio between the mastery and the rank of the breathing technique. As a first-year A- meant almost full mastery over the basic breathing technique, A meant full mastery while A+ was for those that were ready to receive a more advanced technique. S- to S+ signified the understanding of the more advanced technique they received.

Aptitude was the statistic that showed one's familiarity with his magic element and powers; Max might've been able to get a higher rank but because of him only having one ability his rank got limited to A.

Growth was also a ratio but of a lot more things. The level of guidance, one's background, and lots more affected this statistic and it was the most important one. This one showed both your proficiency in using your skills and your rhythm of understanding different but new knowledge. This was what every teacher was looking for and this was what every academy looked for in a student, the level of growth they are able to have, not the level of your current powers as they might be inherited or even were cheated through different items that the wealthy were able to obtain.

"Alright then, I'll take my time assessing each of your abilities myself. The way it's going to work is that you show me each of your abilities in a battle against me. After I get an idea of what I have to work on with you then I'll stop the fight. Does everyone agree?" Alexander asked and he was met with a strong confirmation from his students.

"YES SIR!" They shouted, showing their approval toward his idea.

Hours passed by but no one complained as the practical hours extended even past afternoon, they each got important knowledge on what areas they need to improve and some were even enlightened by Alexander's words as he managed to clear out a lot of information misunderstood by students.

"Alright then, the final one. Max Edward." Alexander called for Max and he was surprised to see the latter with no weapon in hand or equipped on his body.

"Are you sure that you want to go in without your shield?" His teacher asked seeing if it was the fact that Max forgot to get his weapon.

"I am sure, please do not underestimate me," Max responded to him before assuming a defensive position.

'Something smells different about him, he is no normal human' Max thought before seeing his teacher nod; this little sign meaning that the battle has begun.

Max rushed in toward Alexander, punching toward the latter's stomach after reaching close enough.

Not surprising though he was able to block it with relative ease before kicking toward Max. The kick closed in and it seemed that Max will be hit by it but just before that, at the limit of time, Max jumped forward; passing two meters in height he was able to jump over Alexander with relative ease while also getting his hand back after Alexander released it.

"Weren't you some kind of tank? Aren't you too nimble for such a thing?" Alexander asked as he was curious about the situation. He knew that becoming a werewolf wasn't going to change the way someone fights but strengthen it.

'You should really stop showcasing stuff like that Matt' Max addressed his spirit weapon. After they integrated Matt usually showed exceptional athletic abilities when taking control of Max's body and it was highly strange as normally a spirit weapon would have the same abilities as the form it was forged in.

'If we're able to do stuff like this, why not?' Matt responded. He began enjoying the thrill of the fight.

"If you're not going to respond just continue the fight" Alexander advised before moving himself toward Max, showing his fast movement speed along the way.

It was more of an informative chapter but the next one will be a fight between Max and Alexander, I hope the chapters haven't been getting too boring with all this information I have to get out of the way before continuing the story.

I would really enjoy it if you would leave a review on my writing as there are quite a number of you reading but not a lot of reviews. They help attract new readers so I hope you can do it. It proves me that what I am doing is at least at an acceptable level while criticism helps me improve my flaws.

Hope you had a beautiful day today and I hope you enjoyed today's chapter.
