Chapter Forty Six The Bearer Of Death.

"Before the clock strikes twelve, your body will be found in a sea of red with the symbol of a six of spades card. Lest you stay the school shall this be void"

Mr Crawford laughed inwardly on reading the contents of the strange scribbled note that had been dropped on his desk.

"Hahaha...kids and pranks" He said to himself as he shook his head while getting up.

Subconsciously he put the paper in his back pocket as he walked out of the school premises. He was surprised when he noticed the sky had really darkened, he seemed to have lost track of time while he was busy sorting the students assessment.

Luckily his wife was gone, so he won't have to worry about getting scolded. He chuckled softly on the thought of that, as he walked down the road. He suddenly caught a glimpse of an attractive small restaurant and his belly suddenly grumbled in excitement, so he entered the restaurant. The place seemed to have opened newly, the waitresses were all dazzling and the best part of it all, the prices were cheap!.

"I'll have a grilled cheese sandwich and a plain yogurt" He politely said as he returned the menu to the waitress.

She smiled warmly as she left to take out his orders.

He was admiring the restaurant when all of a sudden a certain group of gangsters barged into the restaurant. The owner of the restaurant quickly rushed to address them but was pushed aside violently. The customers were all shivering in fear as they hid behind their tables.

Mr Crawford's legs grew paralyzed instantly, he recognized the gangsters. They were obviously here for him.

"Finally found you old man. Think you could snitch and get away with it!." The gangster yelled angrily.

He was still staring blankly when suddenly a gun was pointed at him. His eyes widened in shock and before he could protest the gangster pulled the trigger.

Six loud shots echoed through the small restaurant as the group of gangsters quickly fled. He was lying on his own pool of blood when a nearby policeman appeared to the scene. He saw his seemingly lifeless body lying on his own pool of blood with six bullet wound holes, surprisingly he was still breathing so he quickly rushed to check on him.

"Maggie do you read me, we've got a man down!. I need an ambulance!" The police man panicked.

While he was calling for help, Mr Crawford clutched to his hand tightly and the police man turned to him in bewilderment.

"S..six of spade..." He muttered weakly as he slowly reached to his pocket, brought out the scribbled note and handed it over to the police man.

The police man wanted to say something but instead he bent his head down sadly when he noticed the man had stopped breathing.

He looked at the scribbled paper in confusion and returned his gaze to the old man's lifeless body.

"Maggie...I think I've got something, am coming to the station.."

★★★★★★

Whispers and rumors filled the class atmosphere as the students gossiped about Mr Crawford's sudden death.

Hugh watched them all as they continued chatting. A sad smile was on his face as he looked at all of them. He found it a bit amusing to see that the people talking were unaware that their lifespan was shorter than that of Mr Crawford. He could sense the presence of death in the room. Most of his classmates were all marked with the sign of death. He could see and tell how their deaths would happen, it didn't terrify him anymore. Not after he'd been having constant visions of people's death, even when he closed his eyes to sleep. The cries and screams now sounded like music to him.

"Who goes by the name Hugh Trail." Two police officers suddenly appeared into the class.

The whole students turned to look in his direction with weary eyes and suspicions.

"I believe am the one your looking for officers" He said collectively as he stood up.

"You'll need to come with us to the office for a few questioning." The police man spoke reluctantly.

He followed them obediently without minding the curious stares that he was receiving. They had reached the school premises when he suddenly caught sight of Selena. He couldn't explain why but his heart skipped the minute he saw her. The death mark was on her head, she had little time to live, but still it wasn't his business so he looked away as he quietly followed the police officers.

Selena was confused when she saw Hugh being escorted out of the school by two police officers, as she wondered what he could have gotten himself into.

«So...are you also gonna let Selena die like Mr Crawford. »Jeb shot angrily.

"Death is a natural phenomena, we all have to die at one point in time." He said calmly.

«Tsk..so what now?..you let her die?. I thought you loved her...isn't that why you didn't wanna go close to her?. So why the sudden change» Jeb blurted out angrily, he was livid.

"Because then, I won't have to be responsible for her death." He said with a slight look of sadness.

"Get in the car." The police officers said as they tucked him into the back sit. The were oblivious to his telepathic conversation with Jeb.

A flash of visions suddenly waved through his mind and unknowingly he blurted out to the police officers "Stop the car."

"Are you crazy kid?." One of the police officers asked rhetorically.

And so he was calm, he didn't say anything else, just kept his mouth shut while the police officers drove off. Jeb continued pestering him to know about the vision he just had, usually Jeb would have sensed it if their connection was as strong as before. But slowly it seemed like he was drifting away day after day. The police officers were having a light discussion as they drove through the city road.

"Am about to be a father man, can't wait to hold my little baby."

"Haha. Those are truly the best moments in a man's life, but you wait till they turn sixtee_"

The other officer was abruptly interrupted as his fellow officer panicked when he saw a huge prison van crashing towards their direction.

"Holy shit look out!."

The van was moving uncontrollably fast and crushing the little things that stood in it's way.

The driving officer frantically spun the wheels as he tried to slip away from the impending danger. Unfortunately he was too late, the prison van wrecked into their little police car and literally squashed them to a building. The front of the prison van was badly damaged, but theirs was more like a squashed sardine.

Hugh however was standing at a farther distance as he watched the whole scene. The two police officers body had been crushed like tomatoes as thick red oozed out of the damaged car.

The escape prisoners stumbled out of the vehicle, some were injured but that didn't stop them from roaming into the city. A certain prisoner stopped to look around his direction. He couldn't help but feel a chilly ominous eyes was staring at them, but then again, he didn't see anything, so he decided to run away.

Hugh was still standing there, not visible to the mortal eyes but still present. Just like he turned intangible while he was in the police car. He was untouchable, like a ghost.

«Why didn't you save them?.» Jeb suddenly asked in a low composed tone.

Hugh's gaze was still focused on the scenery of the accident as he quietly replied. "Where theirs death, there'll always be death."

«That man just lost his chance of being a father.»

His smile grew even wider, his eyes was void of emotions as he calmly said.

"I lost my chance of growing up as a normal child twice.."
