Three days later back in the gathering spot...

Ling Jun and Meng Li had walked out of the forest covered in blood. The story was that they had been ambushed by a bunch of Tang clan disciples and only Meng Li and Ling Jun had survived the initial encounter without being knocked out cold.

They had led the Tang clan disciples away from the others before somehow managing to shake them off.

Everyone was now gathered in the clearing just outside the forest. Tang Zhelun had an anxious look on his face as more and more dsiciples walked out of the forest in one piece.

What was going on? These disciples were all supposed to be dead! He sneaked a glance at Wen Hui, who was also looking back at him from the corner of his eyes, an amused expression on his face.

With that, once Yuan Huan left, Tang Zhelun would be promptly dealt with now that Wen Hui had no more reservations about the younger generation. Yet, he was wondering why Yuan Huan had not killed the disciples? Did he go back on his word?

No, that was impossible. Tang Zhelun wasn't dumb. He wouldn't have revealed his plan if he did not have full confidence in Yuan Huan keeping his end of the bargain.

That only meant that the situation had changed within the forest. Did an unexpected variable appear, delaying Yuan Huan?

Tang Zhelun was in despair. He had done everything he could, yet everything had fallen apart with the arrival of all of these disciples. He had given his own wife to another man, then unable to bear the humiliation her had killed his wife. The official story was that she had abruptly fell ill and passed away before any physicians could arrive.

Of course, few people believed such a thing. Many rumours were flying around the city as to the truth of the matter, some even coming close to the truth. Although he knew he was doomed, quite possibly along with his entire clan he was comforted by the fact that all evidence had been destroyed. At least no one would find out about his biggest shame.

"TANG ZHELAN, YOU DESPICABLE BASTARD!" Ling Ji's voice rang out loudly in front of all disciples and seniors present. Eyes widened in shock as people tried to figure out why a junior would scold a senior as such.

"Respected city lord, please take a look at thi-" Before he could finish his sentence, Tang Zhelan had already figured out what would happen next. There was no time to figure out how the hell the evidence remained. He had to quickly take it back, at all cost.

He could die, but he absolutely would not die in such disgrace. Wen Hui's eyes widened as he moved even without thinking. The desperation Tang Zhelan showed was enough to make him act as something that could make even Tang Zhelan lose his cool must definitely be something important.

Wen Hui was naturally able to forced Tang Zhelan, yet he came back and attacked in a frenzy. This forced even Wen Hui to take him as a serious opponent. After a few minutes, Tang Zhelan had been incapacitated and could only watch on with his eyes reddened.

Ling Ji respectfully offered up the memory crystal, which Wen Hui was instantly able to recognise.

"Oh? Proof huh? I would've already killed you anyway, with or without evidence haha. Why so desperate then?" Wen Hui shook his head with a small smile before proceeding to play the reccording.

All those present were able to see the screen. As time passed, Tang Zhelan's eyes reddened to a frightening degree and he tried to kill himself yet his meridians had been sealed.

All disciples had mouths wide open. Even the two disciples from the sect had incredulous expressions, at the same time, they resolved to take this memory crystal as it would be proof of Yuan Huan's depraved actions. Since he was a trusted lackey of Shi Kun, it would not reflect well on him.

Tang Zhelan now had tears pouring from his eyes yet he was completely helpless as a trussed up chicken.

When Yuan Huan raped Tang Zhelan's wife, some of the male disciples were practically drooling. Most were disgusted at Tang Zhelan and jealous of Yuan Huan. The memory crystal was from Yuan Huan's point of view, so they could see everything he had seen.

Wen Hui promptly turned the crystal off. His expression was a sight to behold. He couldn't help but laugh causing veins to bulge on Tang Zhelan's temples.

The atmosphere was extremely strange for a while, until people began to notice something strange. Yuan Huan had not appeared.

Now that the exam had ended, divine sense was allowed so Wen Hui scoured the forest with his divine sense, only to find no trace of Yuan Huan at all. Shao Yuhui and Xing Feng, along with Wen Hui turned to look at Tang Zhelan.

They were not idiots. The area had been checked beforehand for problems, so the main suspect was now Tang Zhelan especially now since he had motive to kill Yuan Huan.

The two disciples could not care less that Yuan Huan was dead. All they needed was evidence of crimes and they had got what they needed. Yuan Huan would have been executed anyway when they got back.

...

A few days later...

Tang Zhelan had been publicly executed and the Tang family was forced to pay heavy compensation to the other two families as well as the city lord. By now, the whole city was aware of Tang Zhelan's crimes as well as his humiliation. There had been intense jeering at his execution, even by those of the Tang clan.

Tang Zhelan had not spoken a word until his death.

There had only been six disciples who had passed the trial. They were Ling Jun's initial group of five along with Wen Shi.

They were given a few days to prepare to set off for the capital, where the teleportation formation would take them to the sect to participate in the official sect entrance examinations.

This trial only served as a method to weed out those qualified to participate in the entrance examinations. Those exams would be much harder and also involved the risk of death. Depending on how well one did, the resources they received upon entering the sect would be different.

Of course if one failed, providing they were still alive they would be lead back to their homes.

The two family heads had been delighted when their disciples returned alive and had joyously celebrated. They had been extremely depressed the past few days and were letting it all out.

Ling Yijun had been especially excited. Four of his disciple had passed the trials unexpectedly whilst Meng clan only had a single disciple. Tang clan disciples had no one. It was actually quite likely that the group of seven ambushers in the forest would have passed too, had they not run into Meng Li.

The seniors of Lin clan were giving advice to the four who had passed. Ling Ji was provided with resources to cultivate along with the sole mid grade black level treasure, or in simpler terms, mid level two sabre the clan was in possession of.

The other four were provided with a low level two weapon each along with some cultivating resources and some advice. It was the night before they would leave for the capital and the seniors had placed all their hopes onto these four youths.

...

The next morning...

The six were gathered just outside the city wall, waiting for the two sect disciples to arrive. Wen Shi and Meng Li looked spectacular, and drew many glances. The four boys, including Ling Jun, were gazing at them with barely concealed lust.

Ling Ji had tried to invite Meng Li to join them, yet had been completely ignored. He was quite confused as he didn't know how he could have offended Meng Li.

After the two sect disciples arrived, the group set off in a horse drawn carriage. the two disciples sat in the front, whilst the six were huddled at the back. The sect disciples made friendly and small talk just in case any of these became valued by the sect.

It was quite likely in Wen Shi's case.

Two weeks had passed. The group was now more familiar with each other including the girls. They had decided to stick together and help each other out in the entrance examinations. Coming from the same place, they had to look out for each other.

On this day, a magnificent wall could be seen far in the distance. There were farms just outside, being manned by body realm cultivators and there were watchtowers just outside with two guards posted in each. Just the city wall itself was far grander than anything the group had ever seen before.

Ling Jun stared at it before realising that this was where his journey would truly begin. Once he found out more about this world, he would be able to start to show off his strength, albeit moderately.

Ling Jun and Meng Li turned to look at each other.

One of the strings was passing straight through the city gate.
