Chapter 10
Quinn jolts awake during the night, the darkness of his room heavy and foreboding. He lays there for a minute, listening to the silence of the apartment, wondering why he awoke so suddenly
A cry breaks the silence, muffled and muted, but Quinn knows instantly it’s coming from inside the apartment. And with a clench of his heart, he knows what it means.
Skylar.
Dr. Fleming had warned him that Skylar was suffering from nightmares, so Quinn should have expected this. Changing his surroundings isn’t some magical cure-all. But he had stupidly hoped.
Quinn leaps from the bed as pained whimper sounds from down the hall. It is a sound he never wants to hear again, one that pulls at his heart and makes him want to hold Skylar until all the pain and suffering and fear is a thing of the past. But he can’t, so he throws open his door and hurries down the hall, the floorboards cold under his bare feet
