All the people in the break room: "..."
No one noticed when John arrived, and everyone fell silent.
John walked over to the man who was speaking in Jane's defense and looked at him with a cold, menacing gaze. "Answer my question."
The man looked to Brian for help, but Brian kept his head down and stayed out of it. After thinking for a moment, the man answered truthfully, "I know her to a certain extent."
John let out a cold snort. "She's a hypocritical whore. Are you sure you know her?"
Everyone in the room was stunned by his words. John was always seen as a high and mighty figure, reserved and dignified. Now he was coldly calling a woman a whore?
Did he have a grudge against Jane?
Or was he a fan of hers?
Everyone felt a strange sense of unease.
"Everyone, get back to work," Brian sensed that something was off and quickly tried to disperse the group.
John's expression was grim, as if someone owed him billions of dollars. Brian cautiously approached him. "John, what's going on?"
There was a palpable sense of walking on thin ice in his voice.
John's face was ice cold. "What's the situation with Stella Ford?"
Brian immediately reported, "Since being arrested by the police, Stella Ford has been denying any involvement in this matter. However, after Carl Edwards went to see her, she changed her statement and took all the blame, and is estimated to be sentenced to at least fifty years in prison."
It's obvious that Carl Edwards and Stella Ford set a trap for Jane, but they didn't investigate whether there were others behind Carl Edwards.
John's eyes darkened and a cold smile played at the corners of his mouth.
They wanted Jane to rot in an American prison, but that was too easy for her. A woman like her, who was unrepentant, should suffer all kinds of torture at his hands!
At dinner time, Jane sat at the table on time. The last time she caught a cold in the rain, she felt weak, so she had been taking good care of herself lately and eating well at every meal.
When Elizabeth and Alice Garcia came back home, they saw a spirited Jane sitting at the table, not the disheveled, depressed, and self-destructive woman they had imagined. Franklin Garcia was also back home.
This was the first time the whole family had been together since Sarah Ford publicly replaced Jane.
Seeing that Jane was doing well, Franklin Garcia's guilt dissipated a little. "Jane, has Mr. Chen come to see you recently?"
Jane paused her chopsticks and flashed a meek smile at Franklin Garcia. "No, Dad."
"Last time I met him, it was a bit rushed. If you have time, invite him to come over and sit at our house," Franklin Garcia was still interested in cooperating with the Chen family.
Jane nodded solemnly. "Okay, Dad."
Alice Garcia felt irritated by Jane's calmness and meekness.
"She's such a bitch. Everything was taken away from her, yet she remains so calm and collected?
She bought tens of thousands of online trolls to curse at her every day, but she still smiles as if nothing happened.
How did I not realize how thick-skinned she is before?"
Jane casually glanced at Elizabeth and Alice Garcia's expressions, knowing that the more nonchalant she appeared, the angrier they would be.
After thinking for a moment, she smiled and asked, "Dad, I heard from Brandon Chen that Starlight used Sarah Ford to replace me. You and Mom will compensate me, right? Mom said I can't sing anymore, so I can just be a vice president."
Franklin Garcia did mention compensation in front of Brandon Chen, and did Elizabeth also have that intention?
Upon hearing this, Elizabeth immediately put down her chopsticks and raised her eyebrows. "When did I ever say that?"
Jane looked innocent. "Mom, you said it last time. Did you forget?"
Elizabeth suddenly became unhappy. She never made such a promise. This damn girl was lying.
"I never said that. Your reputation is now extremely poor and you don't have the qualifications to be the company's vice president."
Jane and John are in a secret marriage, just like how celebrities in the entertainment industry have secret marriages. This has been mentioned earlier in the text.
