Personal Rewards

After the rewards ceremony finished, the soldiers of Graycastle walked back towards their barracks. The mood was rather high as they now would receive their personal reward. Most of the soldiers were so excited that they tried to hurry up to get back. Even though this was in vain, no one cared about it.

Arriving at the barracks, all the soldiers were gathered up in the court yard. Looking around, Francis saw that less than half of the courtyard was actually filled. Remembering how pact the first day of arrival was, Francis could not help but feel a bit sad about it. However, that was now in the past as they have to move on.

It took another few minutes before the prince arrived at the balcony to make his speech. Looking up, Francis saw the prince move forward and address the soldiers, "The brave soldiers of Graycastle. As you have heard from The Pope, you were the ones that showed most promise in this year's Month of Demon. I cannot agree more with his words. You have indeed brought honor to the kingdom."

The soldiers were cheering on the words that the prince was saying. As the prince held his hand up, the cheering subsided. With that the prince continued, "I would first ask for a moment of silence for our fallen brothers…" The mood darkened a bit with those words was spoken. Everyone felt a bit heavy, as most of the soldiers here had lost someone they knew.

After a moment of silence the prince continued, "I am pretty sure that you all have been waiting for this. We will continue with the reward ceremony." Hearing those words, the crowd started to cheer with excitement. The prince continued, "Your achievements have been monitored by my trusted companions and the higher commanders of the army. The rewards you will be receiving thus are in accord with their agreements."

The prince told what the rewards would be. For every 5 kills of demonic beasts the soldiers would receive 1 gold. Moreover, the soldiers participating with the downing of hybrids would receive 1 gold per demonic hybrid. The one that actually were responsible for the kill would receive an additional 10 gold. As for the special rewards, some would get monetary rewards, whereas some would receive lands small patches of land.

Some of the freemen who survived actually received lands to govern, making them allegeable to become knights. As for the mercenaries, they mainly received monetary rewards.

Looking at his own rewards, Francis received close to 100 gold and two acres of land. Curious about James' reward, Francis tried to find Sir Edward. He was the one that knew James' situation the best and would have acted accordingly.

Finding Sir Edward, Francis could not help by ask about James' achievements and rewards. Sir Edward could not help himself from forming a smile while talking about the achievements of both James and Francis. As for the rewards for James. He said that James would receive 150 gold, get an increased rank in nobility and 5 acres of land for his service.

Jealous about this, Francis understood why James would receive a higher amount of reward. Even the commanders of the army were positive about James, as he was also eager to do more jobs compared to the other soldiers.

The only thing now was that James had to wake back up again.
