Being all messed up, James had difficulties standing up straight. However, he pushed himself to his limit to not fall down. It is finally here, the moment for which they have traveled all the way over to some mountain top. To fight and kill the spawns of the devil.
"Everyone, get in line!" Ordered Sir Edward. Excitement could be seen on the faces of most knights, as this was their first time for them fighting against the demonic beasts. "Everyone listen up, get prepared, in less than hour, I want to see everyone geared up and ready to move out back here!"
James walked with some difficulties to his room. Sitting on his bed, his mind went all over the place. The mistakes he just made during the fight. How he lost his cool. And most importantly, why he was targeted. However he could not figure out a proper reason for the last problem. Only that he was from a poorer background. However this should not result in such a problem, so he was lost in his thoughts.
After resting up for some time, he stood up and walked towards a chest. Opening it up, he picked up his sword that he stored in there. It was a sword he got from his father at his coming of age ceremony. It looked not grandiose, however it is a sword he always could rely on. With this sword, he was able to slew a few bandits who were roaming around close to their fief.
James already wore his armor for the training, therefore he did not have to reequip it. He took his sword and walked out of the room. Walking outside, he was one of the first that arrived outside. James noticed that Ser Edward was currently standing alone. As Sir Edward is one of the nicer knights, James decided to go towards him to ask a few questions.
"Sir, uhm… I had a question…" James asked nervously. "Sir… I… n- uhm… you…" Not being able to form a proper sentence in front of Sir Edward, the situation got more awkward by the second.
Sir Edward, who is normally calm, started to get irritated by this. "Speak already, I won't bite" Sir Edward called out.
Hearing this, James tried to calm himself. "Sir…., I heard stories that you also grew in…, a less…, fortunate family." James had difficulties forming these sentences, as he was scared that Sir Edward would get angry at James for prying into his life. Still he continued with his question "So…. how did… how did you deal with this situation?" As James finished his question, he was already sweating heavily.
Understanding why James asked this question, Sir Edward calmed down and answered in a more friendly and calm tone, "Listen, you are still young and have a long way in front of you. I would not let what other say to you got to your head. I know that coming from a weaker background does have its difficulties, however that is all the more a challenge for people like us. We have to work extra hard to prove them wrong. However this is also beneficial for knights in our situation. Working and training harder will in the end bring us in a more favorable situation compared to some of these pampered knights. Keep that in mind and keep on fighting."
Hearing these words, a small spark sparked in the heart of James. He understood what Sir Edward meant. "Yes Sir, I will work harder than anyone else. I will prove it to you by slaying more of these demonic beasts compared to the other knights" James said in excitement.
"Just don't overdo it, we still need as much fighters as we can get" Sir Edward said smiling.
