Royalty In Disguise

Inspired by real events "Mama, I don't want to drink water. It's already so late if I drink water then I'll have to get up again to pee." "Okay then at least keep this glass by your bedside I don't want to go all the way back to the kitchen to put the glass away," Mama said, a little too angrily. Asia was taken aback by the harsh tone. Also, weirdly. Her mother looked very strange. She looked unfamiliar in an eerie manner. Asia couldn't exactly put a finger on what was wrong but there was something, for sure. She, hesitantly, took the glass of water and gulped it down. As she was drinking something, that felt like a snake, the glass caught her tongue and started pulling her tongue down. She dropped the glass to the floor and started screaming and tugging at her tongue. A blood-curdling scream left her mouth. The pain she that was feeling was none like any other she had ever felt. Her mind started to get numb. She wailed and cried but Mama stood there, smiling a bit, not even moving an inch to help her. All of a sudden, she felt footsteps approaching maybe it was her brother that has came to help her, she looked towards the left to see that her brother and her mother were running towards her, she looked towards her right, stunned and scared to find that where her mother was previously standing, there was no one. She stopped feeling the snake tugging at her tongue. She looked at her hands, felt her face and looked down at the floor where she had thrown the glass but there were no shards of glasses which should've been there. That wasn't the first time. Who's worse me or you?

Her eyes were burning like the hottest day on Sahara. The scorching white ceiling of the hospital greeted vivaciously her as she slowly opened her eyes.

She tried to look around the room weakly. She did feel certain out of grasp in her movements but her heart soared with happiness. Looking around the room helped her find her mother who was sleeping with their with her head resting on her hospital bed.

"Mama," she tapped on her head.

Mrs Chohan woke up with a jolt

"Are you alright? Are you feeling okay? Can you breathe properly?? Is anything hurting?"

"I am fine, Mama. I do feel a little weak but that's it. Otherwise, I'm fine." she smiled not knowing why. "By the way what happened to me?"

"The Iv drip fell to the floor and your canola was pulled out you lost a lot of blood because of that."

"Oh! But I feel fine almost just a little physically weak. Where is Ali?" Asia looked around the bland white room once again? "Also I just realised breathing is not as restrictive as it was before."

"That's great news. Ali went out to see Nick off. He came here to visit you."

"Oh okay." She said absentmindedly.

"He has been sleeping at Nick's place for the past few days now. He's scared of the washroom here. Rani has scared him a lot saying that the snakes of Tabasha are after you for some reason and he thinks that snakes are waiting for you in this washroom."

"I don't wanna talk about the snakes. I'm feeling good right now and I don't want my mood to be ruined I want to talk about nice things. Is there something nice that you might want to talk to me about?"

"Yeah Nick and Ali are going to go meet your dad and they're going to tell them about the whole situation that is going on so, you know, he can be here with you to support you and to help you and me especially because I am so exhausted." Mrs Chohan rubbed her temples.

"Okay, Mama." Asia almost wanted to roll her eyes. She was the one who got attacked by some supernatural snakes and even broke a few bones here and there and she was the one exhausted. "I said I wanted to be happy. I want my mood to stay good so please talk to me about fun stuff. If you do not have anything good to talk about then don't talk at all."

"How are you feeling right now?" said Mrs Chohan worriedly.

"I was feeling fantabulous before but you are kind of ruining my mood. I need to scroll through Instagram to lighten up my mood and maybe shop online a little," Asia smiled, "Yeah that makes sense I'll shop a little."

She looked around for her phone but couldn't find it anywhere.

"Mama where is my phone?"

"Don't you remember you broke your phone and we couldn't get a new phone because of the whole you remembered freezer..." she whispered the last part.

"Okay, give me your phone I need to shop!"

"Yeah here take my phone," Mrs Chohan tried to hide her annoyance by smiling weakly, "Do you know how bad the hospital bill is?"

"What are you trying to say? Do you not want me to be happy? Are you trying to say that I shouldn't shop because the hospital bill is too much?" she screamed as loudly as her ribs allowed her.

"I didn't mean it like that," said Mama apprehensively, "I am just trying to talk about the hospital bill which is a bit too much. I have never heard anything like this before. They are charging us more than the Ritz hotel itself."

She wanted to scream like anything. The anger in her was bubbling get ready to burst open.

Asia looked at her mother with so much anger in her eyes that her mother was taken aback. She knew that Asia was nowhere near being a kind-hearted soul but right now the anger in her eyes was inhumane, unkind and deafening. The kind of anger that makes you numb. The kind of anger that frightens you and humiliates you. Ali entered did the room and said

I'm so happy I'm glad you're awake I hope you're okay

But since Asia's mood was already ruined she looked at Ali with the same ferocious eyes and Ali went "What did I do? Why are you looking at me like that? I didn't do anything!"

"It's the usual with Asia. You know how she gets angry without any reason. You know her nature." Mama said dismissively.

"You seriously think that it is my usual anger. That there is no reason behind it. I am lying on this hospital bed for the past three days. I cannot eat, breath, laugh or even urinate properly. And I am the one who is getting angry without any reason? I woke up with such a good mood. I even felt better physically. I felt like I could breathe better. And I wanted to talk to you about something good. but you started reminding me of thing that put me in this place. do you even realise how much anxiety it causes me? do you even realise how I can not even think about that moment when those snakes would writhing against my body?Or how much pain I felt as my bones were breaking? and all you could think about was the money that was being spent to regain my health?"

"You know I didn't mean it like that. Since your father is not here I wanted to discuss the bill hospital bills an I thought I'll discuss them with you!

You thought of discussing the hospital bills and money right when I said I want to shop

No I just was trying to talk and you were trying to shop

"You know what I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to see you guys here right now. I want to go back to sleep to whatever good dream I was having I was I felt good." Asia started hyperventilating.

The pulse oximeter on her index finger detected the rise in her heart rate. She started getting out of breath.

Ali rang the bell to call the nurse. And mama tried to pacify Asia by rubbing her back. But Asia wasn't getting any better. She was holding the sheets on her bed so tightly that her knuckles had turned white.
