*scht*

With a swift flick of his wrist, a young man lights a match in a dark cavern.

'Geez. How do I always get myself into these situations.'

The light of the lit match revealed a wall of dirt, above it a slight opening with sunlight coming through it. The man started digging until he made an opening just large enough to crawl through.

After making his way out of the cavern through the opening, the man put out the match and dusted himself off before hearing a friendly voice nearby.

"Ah Gray you made it out!" A pot bellied older man was sitting on a wagon and had tipped his hat to Gray who'd just crawled out of the cavern.

"Mhm, here old man I got what you asked for." Gray pulled some sort of iridescent stone from his pocket and tossed it to the man in the wagon.

"You really got it eh?" The older man looked surprised with a puzzled look on his face.

"What's a geezer merchant like you want with such a thing anyways?"

"Oh it's nothing, just a pet project of mine."

"A pet project? I nearly got my self killed for something so stupid?"

"Haha, oh please someone as tough as you wouldn't have died in such a simple dungeon. Here ya go exactly what we agreed on, although I must say I'd never expect you of all people to be strapped for cash."

"Yeah well this sorts of things happen don't they" Of course gray was lying, a noble like him wouldn't have money problems like commoners. Gray had another goal altogether.

"Aye they do, anyhow I really must be going. Need a ride back to town?"

"No that's alright, I can make my own way."

"I'll leave you to it then!" The merchant tipped his hat once more and rode off on his wagon.

As gray walked back towards town he began to wonder to himself everything that lead up to this point, how he'd gotten himself into such a situation in the first place.

Well to know that we'd have to go back, not just a few chapters but much further to the start of the story.

*chirp* , *chirp*

"Ugh, what time is it. Come to think of it why isn't my alarm going off?" A young man with blond hair laid flat on his stomach just barely opening his eyes then closing them due to the sudden light reaching them. The same young man tried reaching his arm out to feel around for his alarm clock on his desk but when he reached out there was no alarm clock, there wasn't even a desk!

"Alarm? What the Devil are you talking about, it's already the afternoon and it's time you woke up young master."

'Huh…'

"Aghhh! Who the hell are you!?"

"Young master? It's me Adlebert…" the voice came from an old man in formal attire with a worried expression on his face.

'Adlebert… where have I heard that name before'

The young blond man placed his elbow in his other palm and thought to himself for a moment.

*ding* it was as if a lightbulb had lit over his head as he came to a sudden realization.

"Adlebert! from [Hero's Song]!"

"What's that young master?"

The older man looked confused as if he didn't understand the young man's language.

'That's right if he's Adlebert then the young master must be *gasp*' the young man turned, to the side of his bed was an end table with a mirror on it, the young man grabbed the mirror.

"WHAT THE FU-!!!"

.

Right before his eyes, he couldn't believe it. The young man had become someone else entirely, bright gold hair, blue eyes, a defined jawline… he recognized this face all too well, this was the face of William Ashford a character who appears early on in a web novel called [Hero's Song] as a minor antagonist met by the protagonist in the opening few chapters.

William was the son of the previous count who'd die in his later years from appendicitis shortly after the story started leaving his rank of count and lordship of the Ashford territory to his only son William. The very same William who'd be humiliated and defeated in a duel against the protagonist of the story, Grayson the son of the Bailiff in the Ashford territory.

Somehow this young man who'd red the original first volume of the novel [Hero's Song] had become William, it had to be a dream… just had to be.

"Haha, yeah right… hey Adlebert right?"

"Yes young master?" Adlebert was the personal servant of William in the early chapters but he disappeared later on for some reason.

"I need to ask you a favor."

The old man bowed his head "anything young master."

"I need you to hit me, a quick smack on the face nothing serious."

"Ahh! Young master I could never."

"This is an order Adlebert, please."

"Well… i- i uh, if you insist young master…"

Adlebert's hand was covered in the white glove of a noble servant, this white hand would floated across the space between the two lightly pushing the young man's face to the side.

'It was so light I didn't even feel anything, LIKE THAT WOULD WAKE ME UP!'

"Adlebert, what was that?"

"It was a smack young master." Adlebert bowed his head as to ask for forgiveness, fearing his temperamental charge's wrath.

* (Charge (noun): a person or thing committed into the care of another).

"Again, harder this time please."

"But young master that was-"

"I said again."

*huff* "very well young master, as you wish."

The old servants white glove rose once again into the air before swiping across the young man's face resulting in a loud *SMACK* sound.

"Ow…" reeling back from the smack he just received the young man

'Huh? It's not… a dream?"

William who stood there holding his cheek which had turned bright red had a look of astonishment on his face.

One thing was clear, either by transmigration or reincarnation… one thing was for certain this wasn't a dream.
