Leo

"Leo! What's happening?" Amanda called but it was hard to hear her over the screaming of people and the bombs being dropped on top of us.

I looked around but I couldn't see anything but smoke and fire.

"Amanda, stick along the walls! There should be an exit somewhere." I shouted and she nodded.

"I'll meet you outside, okay?" I coughed, the smoke filling my lungs.

"Go find her!" Amanda yelled and I nodded. She turned around and clung to the airport wall.

I looked around to see chaos everywhere. Some families were crushed by pieces of the building. Others were trying to navigate through the smoke. Luggage and belongings were scattered throughout the place.

I shouldn't have left Riley. Panic filled my bones and adrenaline began to set in. I needed to find her.

🤍

Riley

I looked around with watery eyes. It was getting harder and harder to breathe.

I could see sets of shoes run past me. Some belonged to men, some to women, some to babies. None I had recognized.

I coughed and my face suddenly felt warm, almost as if a liquid had poured down my face.

I looked around at the hell around me. Fire and smoke filled the room. Some of the flames took over lifeless bodies.

Clothes burned and just fed the fire.

I attempted to lift my arms but they were pinned. I slowly looked at my lower half of my body.

I was under a large piece of cement.

It looked like the beautiful pillar I had been leaning against earlier. Beauty is indeed pain.

Panic hit me like a ton of bricks, or I guess cement.

Blood began pooling from beneath the object. I couldn't feel my toes or anything below my waste. My hands included.

I guess if kidney disease didn't kill me, this would.

I could hardly breathe, it felt like my chest was being clenched by a fist. Every time I inhaled, I could hear a wheeze.

This is the end, isn't it?

"Riley?" A voice called my name and I turned my head slowly to see Amanda looking at me with big blue eyes.

"H-" something filled my mouth, making me choke a little.

"Jesus Christ." Amanda dropped to my side, caressing my hair.

"A-" The same liquid filled my mouth once again.

"Don't speak, baby. It's okay. You're okay." Amanda nodded but I could see her tears.

"I'm going to find Leo, okay? We're gonna get you out of here." Amanda kissed my forehead before leaving my side.

I wanted to scream and ask her to stay. I didn't want to die alone. I wasn't ready to.

I felt tears this time leak from my eyes.

"Riley!" I heard Leo's voice and relief flooded through me.

"Fuck. We're gonna get you out of this." Leo smiled and looked at the cement.

"Le-" fuck not being able to speak. Or breathe.

"It's okay. It's okay." He cupped my face and I shook my head.

"Don't do that. You promised you'd fight. That applies to this, you got that?" Leo had watery eyes. What a crybaby.

I nodded anyways. I'd fight for him.

"Sir, please, help." Leo was now facing someone else. I heard an exchange of voices before the sounds became distant ringing.

I felt my head turn towards Leo. He was saying something to me but I couldn't hear him.

My eyes suddenly felt too heavy to keep open.

I let them close.
