Chapter 14 Date

Pretty soon it became normal to see Damian and Lindsey together. He would walk her to classes, sit with her at lunch most days, and always wait with her until Samuel came to pick her up after school.

And with how popular Damian was, they soon became the 'It' couple of the school. Everyone wanted a relationship like theirs, wanted to be as sickly cute as the two of them. Some envied their relationship, either wanting Damian or Lindsey to be theirs. But the couple ignored those people.

Lindsey's friends were slowly opening up to Damian. The group was still wary of him, because of his reputation, and knowing of him for years. Lindsey knew this and didn't push either side to do anything they were uncomfortable with. But the group saw how happy Lindsey was and couldn't help but be happy with her.

The winter months went by, along with the freezing temperatures and snow. Spring was right around the corner when a realization came to Damian.

"I haven't taken you on a date, yet, haven't I?" Damian asked one day while walking Lindsey to class hand in hand.

Lindsey stopped in the middle of the hallway causing Damian to stop when feeling his girlfriend wasn't moving next to him.

"I guess I haven't realized," Lindsey said. "We hang out every week because of the promise you made me at Homecoming, but those haven't been dates."

"I thought so," Damian said. "How about this Friday I take you on our first official date?"

Lindsey stopped breathing for a second. After months of dating Damian, she still couldn't believe it was all real. She still felt like the girl in New York who never thought about boys or dating.

"A real date? What would we do? Where would we go?" questions spilled out of Lindsey's mouth without warning. "Are we supposed to k-"

She cut herself off. Even after months of being boyfriend and girlfriend, the two hadn't had their first kiss yet. Sure they kiss each other's cheeks and hands and foreheads and sometimes noses, but they haven't actually kissed each other yet. She didn't want to ask Damian in fear that he'll think that's all she thinks about.

Sure, Lindsey has thought after a kiss on the hand or forehead what his lips would feel like against hers, but never has she been brave enough to be the first to make the move. Her eyes moved from his eyes to his lips before quickly moving to whatever was going on in the hallway around them.

Damian raised an eyebrow as she cut herself off. He tugged on her hand so they could continue on their way to class.

"There's nothing to worry about. I'll plan it all. I'll have Alfred drive me to pick you up and take us," Damian said calmly, knowing Lindsey's heart was probably beating faster than a hummingbird's wings.

"Are you sure?" Lindsey asked.

"Tt. Have some faith in me, Lindsey," Damian said. "I've known you long enough to know what you like and dislike. I wouldn't plan anything you won't like. I also just want to spoil my girlfriend."

Lindsey couldn't help but have blush rush to her cheeks. It was something Damian loved about Lindsey, how some of the thing he would say or do would make the pink appear in her cheeks, making her even cuter to him.

"I'm trusting you Damian," Lindsey said. "Just tell me how I'm supposed to dress, I don't want to over or underdress."

"You'll look perfect in anything," Damian said smirking down at her.

"Shut up," Lindsey said as more blush rushed to her face.

It was Friday and Lindsey was getting ready for her first date with Damian.

"No, no, no, no," Juliet said from Lindsey's closet. "If she wears that sweater, it'll match Damian's eyes. They're not one of those couples."

"But this sweater is so cute and warm!" Ryeanne shouted.

"He said dress warm and casual," Blaine said. "We don't want to bundle her up to much. Just pick a long sleeve shirt and a jacket."

Abigail was sitting with Lindsey on her bed, doing her hair and makeup. Lindsey saw her phone light up out of the corner of her eye. She reached over and grabbed it.

Just left. See you in fifteen. -Damian

"Pick quick, Damian is on the way!" Abigail called reading the text over Lindsey's shoulder.

"We got the perfect outfit!" Kelsey said running out of the closet with clothes in her arms.

"Put it on quick!" Blaine yelled.

"What accessories would go with it?" Ryeanne asked going to Lindsey's jewelry box.

Lindsey spent the next fifteen minutes being checked over by her five girl friends. She ended up in a maroon long sleeve shirt, a black bomber jacket, jeans, and black ankle boots. She had a small gold chain black bag with her phone, ID, and money over her shoulder. She wore a simple gold bracelet, and a gold necklace with her parents rings hung on.

Just as her friends declared her as perfect, another text from Damian appeared saying he was here.

Lindsey rushed to the entrance of the manor where she saw her grandparents talking with Damian. Well Grandma Holling was talking. Damian was pretending what she was saying was interesting. Grandpa Holling was looking Damian up and down, trying to be intimidating. It wasn't working.

"Damian," Lindsey said almost out of breath.

"You look great, Lindsey," Damian said with a half smile.

"So do you," Lindsey said looking at him. He wore a light brown button-up shirt under a dark wash jean jacket and black khakis and dress shoes.

"Why don't we get going?" Damian asked.

"Have her home by midnight," Grandpa Holling said sounding strict.

"I will sir, I'll have her home by ten thirty," Damian said taking Lindsey's hand and leading her outside.

Alfred was waiting by the car with the door open for Lindsey.

"Hello, Miss Lindsey. Always a pleasure to see you," Alfred said when she got close enough.

"Same to you Alfred," Lindsey said.

Once the couple was on their way into town, Lindsey turned to Damian.

"So where are we going?" Lindsey asked.

"I thought we could go to an arcade, grab some food, then go on a walk through the park," Damian said.

"Is it safe to go to the park when it's dark out?" Lindsey asked.

"Should be, we just have to stick close to the lit paths," Damian said.

"It would be cool to see Batman and Robin again though," Lindsey said. "Just not if I'm in mortal danger."

"You won't need them if I'm there, I'll protect you," Damian said.

"Good to know," Lindsey smiled.

The next few hours the two played all the games at the arcade before the rumbling in Lindsey's stomach grew too much to bare and Damian took her to a diner nearby.

"Father and I come here a lot together," Damian explained. "It's close to Wayne Enterprises and when Father works late, I meet him here. Miss Potter makes the best cookies."

"You got that right, Damian, your usual?" a woman, most likely Miss Potter, asked.

"Of course."

"And what about the pretty lady?" Miss Potter asked.

"I'll have the chicken tenders," Lindsey said.

"That'll be right out," Miss Potter said before walking off.

"Do you want to go on a walk after this?" Damian asked.

"Depends on how full I am after eating," Lindsey said.

"We could also share an ice cream sundae," Damian said. "I've seen a bunch of couples do that here."

"Sure. As long as there's no whipped cream. I don't-"

"You don't like whipped cream," Damian said interrupting her. "I remember. It's the texture that throws you off."

Lindsey was in shock that he remembered. "I can't believe you remembered."

"I remember everything you tell me. Like how you told me that until the age of fourteen you believed in Santa Claus. Or how when your first tooth fell out you cried because you thought another one wouldn't grow back."

Lindsey was blushing deeply. "You remember all that too?"

Damian chuckled. "Of course I do. I try to remember everything about you. I hope that's not weird."

"It's actually kind of cute," Lindsey whispered.

"Tt. I'm not cute," Damian said angrily.

"Don't worry you're only cute to me," Lindsey laughed.

"Oh, yes, because that makes everything better," Damian rolled his eyes.

"Stop pouting and hold my hand," Lindsey said holding her hand out on the table.

Damian slid his hand into hers and forgot why he was mad at her. Damian found that Lindsey had that power over him. She could turn any of his bad moods around in an instant. He liked that she was able to do that.

Once the two got their food and ate, they shared an ice cream sundae with lots of hot fudge and peanuts. They exited the diner and walked to the park where they took a short walk before Damian called Alfred to pick them up.

The drive back to Lindsey's home was silent as Lindsey leaned her head on Damian's shoulder with his arm around her shoulders.

As the car got to the gate, Lindsey looked up at the manor and sighed. She didn't want this date to end. Damian was in the same boat as her. He wanted to keep her in the car and take her home with him.

Alfred stopped the car in front of the steps to the door and moved to get out.

"Pennyworth, you don't have to get out," Damian stopped the Butler as he unbuckled his seatbelt.

"Very well, Master Damian," Alfred said as he put the seatbelt back on. "I will be here when you come back."

"Tt."

Damian opened his door and stepped out. Lindsey went to follow suit, until she heard Damian shout, "Wait."

Lindsey pulled her hand away from the door and looked around the outside of the car. Was someone coming? Did someone get inside when the gate was open? Damian ran around the car to Lindsey's door. He opened it and held a hand out for her. Lindsey sighed, he only wanted to be a gentleman. She took his hand and stepped out.

"Thank you, Damian, that was sweet," Lindsey said.

As the two of them walked up to the door, Damian didn't let go of her hand. Lindsey smiled at the gesture before remembering that Alfred was in the car probably watching them. She looked over her shoulder and sure enough, he was leaning over the passenger seat peering at the two of them.

When they reached the door, Lindsey turned to Damian. Damian was looking up at the door with a distasteful look on his face. His hand held tighter to Lindsey's.

"This was a lot of fun, Damian," Lindsey said. Damian finally turned his head to look at her. "I didn't know you knew how to play video games. You need to have fun like this more often."

"I'm not sure if that was an insult or a compliment," Damian said with an eyebrow raised.

"It was a request from your girlfriend," Lindsey said pushing his shoulder with the hand that wasn't holding his.

"Well if my beloved requests it, I'll try my best," Damian said. Lindsey noticed the corners of his mouth turn slightly upwards. One of these days she would get him to smile a real, genuine smile.

"That's all I ask," Lindsey said with a grin on her face.

The two of them stood on the front entrance just staring at each other. Lindsey didn't want to go inside and face her grandparents. They would ask too many prying questions. Damian didn't want to leave her, not when he was enjoying spending an entire evening with her.

As Damian stood there the overwhelming urge to kiss her came to him. He wanted to do it so badly, but this probably wasn't the best time, especially with Pennyworth in the car most likely watching them. It would probably scare her away. He would probably be too forward, and she would stop dating him.

But he wanted to kiss her so badly it almost hurt to stand in front of her. Damian's eyes kept looking at her lips, wondering what they would feel like. He quickly looked away from them, in case she noticed him looking.

It was when he looked her in the eyes he blurted out. "Can I try something?" He almost ran away as soon as the sentence was out of his mouth. What was he thinking? He couldn't do that. No matter how much he wanted too.

"Depends on what it is," Lindsey shrugged innocently. She hadn't noticed he was looking at her lips.

"It's nothing bad, just something I was wondering what something was like," Damian said. If he outright said that he wanted to kiss her, she may freak out and run inside. He couldn't have that happen, not when he was so close.

"Okay, go for it," Lindsey said.

Damian looked at her for a minute, thinking if this was a good idea before he began to lean in.

Lindsey's mind went into overdrive. He was leaning in. Was he going to kiss her? No, he wouldn't do that especially if they hadn't done it this far into the relationship. Maybe it was a good thing that he wanted to kiss her. It had to –

Lindsey didn't even finish her internal struggle before Damian's lips were on hers. They were softer than she originally thought they would be. He had to lean down a bit so the two of them were at a similar height, but he didn't seem to mind.

Alfred in the car threw his hands in the air and celebrated. Master Damian was having his first kiss. And it was with Miss Lindsey, someone Alfred liked very much.

Lindsey began moving her lips against his, and in return he did the same. Lindsey stood on her tiptoes to get a bit closer to Damian. To keep herself steady she gripped the sides of his shirt. Damian lifted a hand and cupped her face. The other hand reached around her waist.

It had to be the most innocent kiss in existence. Lindsey who had always thought about kissing a boy, but never thought of a boy to kiss and Damian, who thought he would never find a girl he would ever want to kiss, but always imagined what it would be like.

Damian stopped kissing her but left his lips on hers. Lindsey was confused. Then she began to freak out in her mind. Was she a bad kisser? Had he felt nothing kissing her? What if he realized she wasn't the right girl for him?

Lindsey got off her tiptoes, finally separating their lips and looked up at him. "What is it?" She held on tighter to his shirt as his hand fell from her face.

"Someone is watching us through the windows," he whispered. He looked over her shoulder to find some of the staff peaking their heads through the window curtains. Lindsey turned around to see them close the curtains.

She looked at the window behind Damian to see her grandparents and some more staff in the window.

"Can we not get some privacy?" Lindsey asked as she pulled herself from Damian.

"Pennyworth was watching us too," Damian said looking down at her.

Lindsey looked to the car to see Alfred clapping. When he saw she was looking he gave her two thumbs up.

"Oh my gosh," Lindsey laughed. Damian let out a chuckle before looking down at Lindsey.

"That was better than I thought it would be," Damian said.

"I didn't know you knew how to kiss that well," Lindsey said.

"When you have brothers that talk about kissing and more than kissing around you, you learn some things," Damian shrugged.

"I can't wait to meet the rest of your brothers," Lindsey said. "I'll have to thank them for their tips."

"You'll only boost their egos," Damian rolled his eyes.

"I better get inside, even though I want to continue talking to you," Lindsey said.

"Are you sure you don't want to run away with me?" Damian leaned into her ear and whispered to her.

"I'm sure my grandparents are already behind the door listening to our conversation," Lindsey whispered back with a giggle.

"I'll call you when I get home," Damian whispered. "But I'll text you tomorrow then?"

"Of course," Lindsey said. "I'll be waiting."

Damian leaned down and pecked Lindsey's lips before walking back to the car. Lindsey smiled broadly. He ran around the car to the door he left open. Lindsey waved as the car made its way off the property.

Once the car was out of sight Damian pumped a fist into the air.

"Pennyworth is this what it feels like to be in love?" he asked.

"I believe it is, Master Damian," Alfred replied with a sly smile creeped up on his face. Damian deserved someone like Miss Lindsey.

Lindsey opened the door to her home and stepped into the house when the car was out of sight.

And just like Lindsey thought, her grandparents were behind the door, waiting for her. Grandma Holling had a huge smile on her face, making her look like a child on Christmas day. Grandpa Holling had his arms folded and a stern look on his face.

"Did you have fun?" Grandma Holling asked excitedly.

"Hi," Lindsey greeted. "I had more fun than I thought I would."

"So that kiss," Grandpa Holling spoke up. "I didn't see much, but was there something you would be embarrassed about if we did see it?"

"No!" Lindsey said covering her ears. "Oh, gosh, Grandpa! That was our first kiss. It was my first kiss ever. It was his first kiss ever. It would be wrong if we did anything besides lips. Please don't ask me that again."

Lindsey made her way past them as Grandma Holling scolded her husband.

"Oh, Lindsey!" Grandma Holling called. Lindsey stopped on the steps and turned to her grandmother. "How long do you think this relationship is going to last?"

"I don't know, as long as we love each other," Lindsey shrugged. "Why do you ask?"

"Well, it's just, there have been some owners and CEOs of companies who have told us their sons are interested in you," Grandma Holling said. "And it's always good to keep your options open. And making ties with big companies would be good for our little company."

"You want to sell me off?" Lindsey asked incredulously. She couldn't believe her grandparents would try to do this. "Are you trying to get me to marry some rich kid of a big company to make your company bigger?"

"Of course not," Grandma Holling said. "We just want to make sure you know you have options if this turns out badly."

"Grandma, no offense, but I'm going to date whoever I want, however long I want," Lindsey said. "Besides isn't Wayne Enterprises the biggest company in Gotham? Wouldn't that be good for your company?"

"Well yes, but if this relationship doesn't end well and we have to cut ties with Wayne Enterprises, we want to make sure that other companies would still work with us," Grandma Holling said softly.

Lindsey's jaw dropped. "Now I know why mom left this life, it's all about money and deals, not love. I love Damian, and if you didn't learn anything from my mom, I don't think you ever will." Lindsey ran upstairs, not wanting to see her grandparents' faces.

How could this day turn around so quickly?
