Contract by Blood

The Dragon stared at Damon from head to toe before bursting into laughter. The sound it made created a strong whiff of wind.

"Ah!" Damon yelped and felt his body was going to be thrown away. He ran toward Alfie's sword and clung to secure his position.

"HAHA! A mere spirit… a summon! They downgrade… after being a failure… several centuries!" The Dragon spoke menacingly. It wagged its tail in pure amusement at what it had seen.

"I know! I don't want to be in this situation in the first place!" Damon whined loudly. He wanted to live a normal life in the new world, but he couldn't because the Obsidian Order summoned him as their Hero.

The Dragon shook its head at how Damon acted. It was used to fight several enemies for years until its energy depleted, which made the Obsidian Order able to put a poisonous arrow on its back.

"You're unusual…" The Dragon muttered and moved its head closer to Damon. It observed him for a few minutes before deeming he differed from those who came to battle.

"I… I guess," Damon sighed, agreeing with the Dragon. His shoulders slumped down after reminding him that he wasn't special even in his new life.

The Dragon squinted its eyes. It smelled no fear seeping from Damon even after the attack, and his aura radiated a certain scent that was foreign.

That made the Dragon interested in Damon.

"Do you… want… contract?" The Dragon whispered. Its eyes showed desperation and pain.

"Huh?" Damon's interest peaked. He stood up and approached the Dragon, looking at its bright green eyes. He frowned upon seeing a formed tears.

"Contract… with… me," The Dragon stated sternly. It wanted to explain further but found it hard to speak straight.

Damon's eyes widened. He stepped closer to the Dragon in disbelief.

"You want to form a contract with me? Do you want me to become your master?" Damon stated in suspicion that the Dragon might have had terrible intentions.

"I… have… no… choice," The Dragon grumbled and looked away. It hurt its pride to form a contract with an unknown being, especially since it was a summon from the Obsidian Order, but somehow, it felt a pull toward Damon, like a magnet.

"Mighty Dragon, you're actually quite nice, but have you forgotten I'm tasked to retrieve your blood for the Obsidian Order," Damon frowned, rubbing his chin. He thought about his actions' pros and cons if he took the contract.

The Dragon remained silent for a few seconds, gazing into Damon's eyes and observing him.

"Do you… want to work… with… Order?" The Dragon muttered and squinted its gaze. A smirk appeared on its gigantic mouth, showing its sharp, long teeth upon seeing the torn reaction from him.

"I don't want to! I hate it! I never want to be there again!" Damon shouted while shaking his head, but he looked at the sword and thought about Alfie.

"Form… a Contract… save a… friend," The Dragon urged, but Damon wasn't listening.

'Hmm, why do I even need to follow the Obsidian Order? Wyverna said I can do whatever I want here!' Damon thought. He beamed toward the Dragon and gave it a thumbs up.

"I'll agree with your deal, but I have a proposal!" Damon replied and pointed at the sword.

"Tell," The Dragon stated with peaked attention.

"That sword used to be a boy named Alfie. I don't quite understand, but he is obsessed with fulfilling his role to the Order, and I don't like it since they treat him so bad!" Damon blurted in frustration while walking toward the sword.

"I want you to help me turn him back into a human. I don't care whatever it takes!" Damon continued, his voice laced with determination.

"Hmm, agreed. Mine… arrow… serve you… forever," The Dragon replied and gestured toward the poisonous arrow sucking her power and lifespan every minute. If it wasn't removed for the next few weeks, the Dragon would likely vanish in the air.

"Deal! Who gives a f^ck about the Obsidian Order. I will live my life without anyone dictating what I want to do!" Damon exclaimed with the newfound goal in life. His path was in chaos, but now, he established to achieve something worthwhile.

The Dragon stood up, towering over Damon. It opened its mouth, releasing a flash of air, and a piece of paper appeared before Damon.

"Contract… sealed… blood," The Dragon explained weakly before hurting itself and dropping its blood on the paper.

Damon nodded and looked at himself. He had forgotten he was a spirit again.

"Umm, I don't think I can place blood there. I am a spirit, after all," Damon stated, but the Dragon only looked at him as if he was dumb.

Damon became anxious and waited for the Dragon to explain, but it was too weak to speak more words. Both of them remained silent until the Dragon couldn't take it anymore.

"Witless," The Dragon spoke and rolled its eyes in annoyance.

"Ack!" Dragon clasped his chest at the imaginary pain he felt after the Dragon insulted him. "That hurts emotionally, you know!" he added, shaking his head.

Damon sighed and stared at the paper. He shrugged and bit his finger in an attempt to wound himself, and to his surprise, it did, but it was not blood, instead a golden liquid.

"I think this will do?" Damon muttered before dropping his golden blood into the paper, which glowed brightly.

"Contract… sealed," The Dragon whispered in relief.

The paper lifted in the air and vanished, leaving a gust of wind away.

"That was it?" Damon asked in concern, expecting more to happen. He was about to approach the Dragon when his vision in his left eye blurred, followed by a headache.

[Congratulations! A contract was successful!]

Damon heard Maya's voice, irritatingly speaking inside his head. He looked around, but Maya was nowhere around him.

[Resonating with Dragon Sovereign of Wind! Done!]

"What is going on!" Damon shouted in desperation to stop the pain, but it continued. He felt someone was plucking his eyes without anesthesia. He collapsed to the ground while holding his head.

It took a minute before the pain vanished, and Damon could see clearly.

"Are you alright?" The Dragon asked in concern since its master was in despair and couldn't do anything to help.

"Ugh! I don't know what just happened, but yes, I am now," Damon stood up shakily and faced the Dragon.

"Your... eyes," The Dragon gasped in shock. It never expected Damon to have the symbol of the wind.

"Huh?" Damon frowned. Curious, he came to the sword and used its blade as his mirror. What he had seen nearly made him faint.

Damon's left eye glowed with a symbol replacing its iris and pupil. It was a pair of wings in a Teal color, then it slowly formed into a new structure and adapted his eye shape, but the shade remained the same.

"Milk is my Therapy."
