Chapter 46: Taken So Early

"Are you kidding me?"

Slate suddenly received a call from Scarlet three after he had told her that the bus had already left.

Which means he was already quite far.

Scarlet laughed on the other side of the phone, "I'll try contacting her to tell her that you are on your way to check on her."

"And what if you couldn't contact her today? It already came from you that she told you that signal is difficult in there," he tried to calm down.

"Well, you can just wait until we can contact her. You have your phone, you can do it yourself as well," she replied.

Slate wanted to slap his face because of this antic of his sister.

"You couldn't really waste your travel now can you? Indeed you can buy a new ticket and come back home but since you are already there, just check on her," she once again said.

"You are impossible," he finally said in defeat.

"I know."

She even laughed after replying to this.

"So I guess you will be waiting for her then."

He no longer replied before she ended the call. It would be a waste of a long travel for him to actually just return when he could really check on her.

With a sigh, he put on his headset and went back to sleep, there is still about four hours before he reached his destination. If Scarlet couldn't contact her until then, he can just book a hotel before trying to contact her as well.

"Finally!!"

Amethyst put away the phone from her ear when Scarlet suddenly exclaimed loudly.

"What is going on?"

"Well, as you know, I love worrying adn for me to really stop worrying I need to see you in person but I couldn't possibly do that so, I had someone else go," Scarlet spoke as if what she was saying was something of a day to day life.

"Wait... what??" Amethyst ended up standing up from her chair upon hearing this.

"Yes, I had Slate check on you," Scarlet replied like it was nothing.

"Oh and the bus left at 8 this morning," she then added.

Amethyst looked at the time, "It's already 5 in the afternoon!!!"

She rushed to get her jacket and the keys of her car. He used the bus so it means he must have been in Sagada for two hours or so.

"Yup, though I tried calling you since lunch time but couldn't get ahold of you. Don't worry he has money so he can take care of himself."

"Scarlet!!" she was exasperated.

"I am still an hour away from Sagada," she added as she started the car.

"Oh, well, he can just wait for another hour," Scarlet replied with a chuckle.

Amethyst didn't know if she should get mad or anything. Never expected that Scarlet actually has this side.

"You surely did that to your brother?" she asked.

Scarlet laughed, "I am very much worried about you and he might be indifferent but he too was worried. Since both of us are worried why can't I just have him check on you?"

"There's nothing we can do about it now, since you have already pushed him here. I'll go and check on him at the same time try and contact him if he is still alive."

Scarlet laughed again before saying goodbye.

"You do love messing with them now, don't you?" Eduard said after she hung up.

"There really is nothing I can do. I need to be closer, the last thing I can do for them," she even winked as she said this.

Eduard scrunched up his face, "I really am not fond of hearing you say the words last thing and all."

"Sorry about that, I will make sure not to use it again in front of you," she raised her hand and said.

"You even decided to come to the hospital while he was gone just so you could push the two of them together," he then said looking around the hospital room.

"I want him to have a peace of mind on the four days that he has as a break. At the very least me being in the hospital wouldn't worry him of me suddenly collapsing and being unable to be taken to the hospital as fast as possible," she explained with a sigh.

Eduard shook his head, "Well, everyone was feeling at ease knowing you are here as well."

She laughed, "And why are you here again? Your fiance might end up breaking up with you."

"As if, she wouldn't do that. She was actually the one who told me to check on you after knowing that you had your younger brother leave you."

"She's worrying too much, tell her that she should only worry about your wedding preparations instead of worrying over me," she shook her head as she said this.

"She couldn't help it, she knew of our story and knew how much I have changed because of you. That is why she was grateful to you," he replied.

"Are you flaunting now? That you passed by me before her?" she teased.

"As if I could do that, for her and for me. You are our greatest blessing because if you didn't come to my life and changed me, then we wouldn't have lasted this long. We would have clashed and end up breaking up in such a short span," he placed his hand on top of hers and said.

Scarlet smiled, "I am happy to be of service."

"Scar," Eduard suddenly used her nickname, the one he and Slate used back when he was still her lover.

"There are no what is Eduard, we only have the present right now. Once we choose there is no point looking back at those times. Just live happily with her and I will be able to say that I am really happy for you. Our time together was short, but it was fulfilling and blissful. Me passing by your life is just part of your path that you should take to really meet the person that is for you. Just how many girlfriends did you have?"

He shook his head and chuckled, "I know, you had been telling me that over and over again."

"Then stop trying to ask me what if," she answered.

He sighed, "I love you."

"And I love you too, and I am happy we get to retain our love for one another as being friends even after that we had been through. Just how much did we avoid each other until we finally got the chance to accept everything?"

"I also don't know, we avoided each other so many times," he replied.

"Yes, but I think we got over everything when I finally decided to come to the philippines," she remembered.

After breaking up with him, it took them months of avoiding each other before she realized there is one thing she wants to create for her grandmother's home country. She and Slate left and a year and a half later, Eduard came as her editor to check on them.

"We were so sure of the break up but it took us a while to actually talk about it," he commented.

"Yes, it was difficult but the talk helped us a lot."

Reminiscing wasn't always a part of their talks. It was only during the times that they both felt emotional about the current situation.

"Look after them Eduard, that is all I want from you," she turned serious and said.

He wanted to rebuke and say that she should stop talking like that but he couldn't do it at all.

"I never thought I would leave someone under your care other than my brother but that child is precious. I can tell she will go far in the world of writing. Watch over her and once she is ready take her to the company. I trust that you can make her prosper even more. You and the company," she then added.

"I understand, I will surely do as you wish."

"Thank you."

She was already tired and so she closed her eyes after saying her thanks, Eduard watched as her breath turned even before leaving the hospital.

After stepping out of the building, he took a deep breath and looked up at the sky as the sun was setting.

'Such a lovely soul, only to be taken so early.'
