The burnt flesh smelled stronger as Chris got closer to where Madison and Paul, whom he had left after he had taken the ten zombies, used to be.
Chris had felt the explosion from far away, that was the reason why he had increased speed and had arrived as fast as possible.
Chris didn't know Paul and Madison very well, he didn't know if they were suicidal enough to kill themselves with the zombie queen if possible, so once he arrived he was worried.
The trauma of losing his companions was still in the back of his mind, even if he had avenged them and Chris didn't want the people who seemed to be very good people he had recently met to end up dying too.
He was a policeman trained to protect civilians, what kind of a defender of civilians would he be if he can't protect the two people who were in front of him.
*Sigh*
The air Chris didn't know he had came out once he saw the Paul and Madison couple standing around watching something in front of them.
Chris followed her gaze and saw something he didn't think he would ever see, the zombie queen was burning on fire, as a young man stood in front of him.
Everything was destroyed, but Chris's eyes were on the zombie queen who was now motionless and charred, while still burning with fire.
"Well that's it... "Alan said to himself, as he looked at the key, which was in his hands, a key that was white in color.
Alan didn't know what the key was for, but it was better to hope than that it was a key to a door that would allow them to leave.
"Well I'm off "Said Alan, as he retreated down the hallway, leaving Paul and Madison, the danger had passed and the resentment still remained in Alan's heart.
It was not easy to get rid of one's resentment, as it will always be deep inside you.
"Well time will decide what happens next "Said Paul, as he looked at Madison's face, who apparently wanted to ask him why he let Alan take the key.
"You're seriously going to let that man take the key "Came the voice of Chris who approached once he had recovered the duo.
"Yeah...after all he ended up with the zombie queen, he deserves it, besides it's not like we can't escape, all we have to do is follow him and see where the key leads. "Said Paul, as he started walking towards where Alan went.
+++++
Alan had been testing the doors of the mansion a few hours ago, looking for the door that would open with the key.
Alan's hopes were going down when a leaking idea came to his mind.
"And if the key is a memory the girl had, that reminded her of home "alan wanted to tear his hair out, from frustration at the thought of that, after all, if that was true, everything they had done would have been for nothing.
Risking their lives and Richard's death would have been for nothing.
I refuse! Alan shouted as he went to the only door that remained to be opened, the door in front of him, a mechanized one.
The only reason I hadn't tried that door before was because I knew that the only way the door could be opened was by fingerprints, which I didn't have.
But from what he had searched the entire mansion for the door to which the key belonged, he had forgotten something important and that was that he had never inspected the key in his hand.
It was thanks to this idea that had come into Alan's head that he found the image of a fingerprint on the key ring.
"I hope it works "Alan said to himself, as he put in the fingerprint recognizer on the door.
It was moments of intrigue for Alan and the group of Paul's following him until at last the door swung open with difficulty.
Alan, he thought the other side of the door would be better than that side, but he really was in for a hell of a lot worse than the side he was on after all.
Everything was destroyed, lights were flickering and claw chews were everywhere.
* Grunting
A terrifying scream from whatever it was alerted Alan, whose hair stood up all over his body in a sign to escape.
Alan knew that whatever was inside this section of the room was no less dangerous than the zombie queen.
"What did these crazy people create "Shocked Alan said to himself, as he hurriedly closed the door he had just opened before a giant shadow passed down the hallway leading to the door where Alan was standing.
Silence filled the place, as Paul and his group began to tremble in deep terror, an alpha beast had just appeared in front of them.
Like a helpless animal fleeing before a hunter, they all did the same before whatever was in front of them, which raised every animal instinct deep within them to the utmost.
*Sigh*
Alan plucked up his courage when he decided to go back through the door, his whole being telling him not to go in, but it was the only way out, so Alan entered the long hallway that looked like a horror movie.
Although Alan's life throughout the mansion could already be considered a horror movie.
"Well apparently the beast is gone...if you want a chance to get in, I'll leave the fingerprint here "Alan said as he closed the door before walking through the door, leaving the key to enter Paul's group.
Alan had the three grenades and his rifle with him, so he took courage and decided to continue on his way, as he went the opposite way from the zombie, or whatever it was.
Along the way, Alan did not find anything as bizarre as in the other section of the mansion, after all, it was noticeable that no one entered that section of the mansion in many years, which possibly made the viruses of each zombie, evolve to survive.
The blood was already dry and the bodies of the humans who had apparently been killed were apparently already non-existent when even the bones ended up in the stomachs of the zombies.
Alan's flashlight was already off because the visibility of the place was better than in the past section of the mansion, it was noticeable that with each section of the mansion passed, the generator of the mansion was reached.
This answered the question as to why the last section had no power, other than to open the door, since it seemed that the closer they got to the generator, the more frequently the devices would work.
N/A: For those of you who didn't figure out which zombie Alan encountered, I'll tell you in the next chapter, since it was an easy one and I even said his name as I was writing.
