The Zombie Whisperer

The Self-Evolved were people with specific physiques who were not infected during the virus outbreak. Instead, their genes had rapidly combined with the virus and turned them into evolved humans!

The Self-Evolved were like zombies — they were divided into normal, special, and multi-evolution categories. There were many normal Self-Evolved people at almost one out of a hundred humans but far fewer of them were special Self-Evolved at only about one in ten thousand people. As for Multi-Self-Evolved beings, there were no more than three people in this world as far as what Lin Chao could recall.

"Who are you?!" The boy leader looked at Lin Chao in fear. "How did you get in? What about the people outside? Have you killed them all?"

It was as if Lin Chao did not hear him as his eyes bore into the girl in the black formal dress. "How do you know that human flesh could let zombies evolve?"

The girl studied Lin Chao for a moment before she relaxed and said with a grin, "I have my secrets. As for you... You're probably someone with a special ability and it's to turn yourself invisible like how you were earlier. What a weak ability."

The boy leader immediately understood how Lin Chao snuck in.

"It's only invisibility and you're already so boastful." The boy leader immediately let down his guard and smirked. "Do you think that you're the only unique person in this world? Do you think that your power makes you invincible? Let me tell you, honestly, my ability is Bones. I can grow my bones outside of my body to use as a weapon, and I can move the bones inside my body to protect my heart. Even if bullets hit my bones, they won't pierce through them and that includes my skull! So even if I stand here and ask you to kill me, you wouldn't be able to!"

Bones?

Lin Chao looked at him coldly and bolted out in a split second. The explosive movement was too speedy to be reacted to. One-third of a second was all it took for Lin Chao who was assisted by his Speed Acceleration ability to cover the short distance. It was so instantaneous that the boy leader's evolved response speed barely allowed him to think about avoiding the black steel bar that had now reached his head!

Such speed!

The lad was shocked. He had never expected a person to be so fast.

Nonetheless, he was not in despair. He knew the strength of his bones. Even if bullets from a regular pistol was shot at his head, it would not pierce his skull. No matter how powerful he was bashed on his head, it would merely cause him external injuries since the force would be spread across his bones. That fact alone was enough to assuage him from worrying about suffering massive damage.

However, he would find out at the very next moment that he had made a mistake.

When the steel bar came into contact with his skull, he felt his mind going blank!

This tremor! A violent quake!

His ears seemed to catch the crisp crack that his own skull had made as a pang pricked the countless cells in his brain. He suspected that his skull was already crushed.

The boy collapsed backward from the blow.

Lin Chao stole a peek at his steel bar. It was slightly bent. The bones enhanced by the Bones ability were actually on par with ordinary steel.

The boy leader sat on the floor and stared at Lin Chao at a loss. His brain slowly caught up with the events that had just unfolded. The shooting pain drained the color from his face as the muscles around the corners of his eyes twitched uncontrollably. Gritting his teeth, the boy grunted in agony and rolled around while hugging his head, unable to stand up for the time being.

After all, he was merely a boy.

Although he had evolved by chance and obtained extraordinary physical strength, his fragile willpower was not what genetic evolution could enhance.

Lin Chao turned back to look at the girl in the fitting black gown and spoke calmly, "Are you going to tell me now?"

The girl was rattled. Lin Chao's speed had exceeded the limits of what her retina could process. She only managed to catch the glimpse of a black spec before the boy leader fell on the floor, rolling around while hugging his head in agony. If Lin Chao wanted to kill her, it would be a walk in the park with speed like this.

She was pale when she replied, "Do-don't kill me. I'll tell you."

"Speak." Lin Chao's tone was ice cold.

The girl sneaked a peek at him before saying carefully, "I can control these zombies. I can sense their thoughts. That's how I know that they can evolve by eating humans."

Lin Chao was taken aback.

Sense their thoughts?

Such a unique ability… Could it be the rumored Zombie Whisperer?

A Zombie Whisperer was a creature formed by combining mankind and zombies. Its body was similar to that of a human with each individual organ maintaining the look of a human's organ without any decomposition. This included muscles, bones, strength, speed, and other aspects of a human being. The only difference was that its body would be immune to the virus. Even if a large amount of viral particles was infused into its blood vessels or genes, there would not be any meaningful reaction.

On the other hand, its brain was almost identical to a zombie's brain. The virus already destroyed all the cells in the brain including their memory cells, their nervous systems, and various other things. Simply put, their brain was dead! The only contrast it had against a zombie's brain was that a Zombie Whisperer's brain would rapidly regrow after its death. Even its cells and nervous system that had been destroyed would regenerate. Like a snake shedding its skin, it was like a total system reboot and evolution of its entire being.

The evolved brain would retain part of the owner's memory along with a new personality. The brain would also emit exceptionally strong waves that would allow it to control zombies, including the regular and special zombies as well as the Peril Strains!

In terms of rarity, a Zombie Whisperer was rarer than a Peril Strain. This was due to the rapid rebirth of the brain upon the death of the brain which was something that went against all scientific data. This was a miracle that could only happen with an exceedingly unrealistic amount of coincidental factors.

Lin Chao glanced at the three zombies in the dark. They were not restrained by chains but instead, they were currently squatting in obedience, not even daring to make a single noise. It was apparent that this was the effect of the girl's control.

"I've told you what you want. Please let me go," the girl immediately begged when she saw Lin Chao holding his tongue, "I can do anything you want. Marry you, or have sex with you, I can do it all!"

The boy leader who had been groaning in pain while hugging his head lifted it in a stupor. The revelation at this moment nearly triumphed the physical anguish he was in. He spoke dumbly, "Yu, wh–what are you saying?"

The black gowned girl glared at him and resumed looking at Lin Chao with pleading eyes.

Lin Chao had already gotten out of his daze and began sneering. "Anything, you say? Kill him now!" He pointed at the boy.

"Okay!" The girl agreed instantly.

Roar!

Following a few snarls, shaky silhouettes staggered out from the dark like monsters that just escaped their cages. Their necks were twisted in abnormal angles while their eyes were fully white and their skin rotten. They then pounced at the boy leader on the floor without mercy.
