Chapter 1: First Encounter

In a lush forest a lost child was sitting on the ground crying, She was no more than 4 years old, she has neck length black hair with red tips and has shining silver eyes

"*Hic* Mom! Dad! *Hic* Sis! Where are you? *Hic*." She said between sobs

She was broken out of her sobs when she heard someone call out to her

"Hey kid, ya alright there?" The voice said in a gentle tone

The girl head raised and looked where the voice came from

"Huh?" The girl responded confused as she saw no one

"Over here." The voice said

She gazed over the tree line saw someone behind the trees

He looked 14 years old about 146 cm with with silver platinum hair tied to a ponytail that reached his back and he has red eyes, he wore a white polo shirt with a red necktie and black trousers that reached his ankles with black dress shoes, over his polo shirt was what looked like a white lab coat that reached pass his knees, and in his neck was a pair of square shaped goggles

The boy walked closer to the child and kneeled in one knee

"Are you ok?" The boy asked again with a gentle smile

The child stood up and hugged the boy sobbing again

The boy froze and tumbled at the sudden hug

"Uhh..."

The boy broke out of his monetary stupor, as he hugged and started gently patting the childs head trying to calm her down

"There, there it's going to be alright." He said in a comforting tone while still patting her head

"Are you lost?" He asked gently

The child whose was face buried in his chest looked up and stared at his eyes as she slowly nodded

The boy simply smiled and stood up offering his hand to her

"Don't worry, I'll help you find your way back home."

The child gazed at it before she grabbed his outstretched hand as they made they're way out of the forest

"Ruby..." The child said quietly

"Hm?" The boy looked at her

"My name is Ruby... What's yours?" She said in shy voice

The boy smiled

"My name is Shiro, nice to meet you Ruby."

The two walked silently through the forest until Shiro spoke up

"Soooooo~ Ruby, what are you doing here?"

"I saw a cute bunny, I tried petting it.. but it ran into the forest... I followed it and got lost." She said embarrassed

Shiro softly giggled at that

"Hey! Don't laugh!" Ruby said while pouting

He just giggled more causing Ruby to pout more

"How about you Shiro, why are you in the forest?" Ruby asked curiously

"Hm~ I live here." He said with a hum

"But don't you get lonely?" Ruby said tilting her head to the side

"Yes... But I'm used to it." Shiro said with a sad smile

Ruby just stared at Shiro for while before letting go of his hand running ahead of him and turned around pointing her finger at him while staring at his eyes

"It's decided! You'll be my friend and I'll visit you again tomorrow." She said with a proud smile

Before fidgeting at Shiro's gaze

"If you're ok with being friends with me." Ruby continued still fidgeting

There was an awkward silence for a minute that made Ruby nervous before Shiro finally responded

"I'd like that." Shiro said with a closed eye smile

Ruby beamed a smile at that and held his hand again as they continue to walk through the forest

As they where walking they heard a yell

"Ruby!"

And another

"Ruby! Where are you!?"

Ruby smiled excitedly recognizing the voices as she pointed at the clearing of the forest where she heard the voices

"That was my mom and dad!" She exclaimed as she let go of Shiro's hand and sprinted to the clearing

As she got closer to the clearing she saw them

A woman that looked like an adult version of Ruby and a man with short blonde hair with blue eyes

It was Ruby's mother Summer and father Taiyang

"Mom! dad! I'm over here!" Ruby yelled while running

Summer and Tai looked at where they heard the yell and saw Ruby smiling at them

""Ruby!"" They yelled In unison as they jumped and enveloped Ruby in a bear hug

"A-air!" Ruby choked out

They both let go of Ruby with a sheepish smile

Before widening their eyes in realization and yelled in unison

""Ruby where were you?! We were worried sick! You're not hurt are you?!"" They asked with worry

"I'm ok! I got lost at the forest while chasing a bunny, but my new friend Shiro helped me!"

""Shiro?"" They both asked in confusion

"Yeah! He's right ther- huh?" She pointed at the forest but stopped mid sentence as no one was there

"Ruby honey are you sure you're okay?" Summer asked worriedly

"Y-yeah." Ruby said stuttering a little

"Now what was this about Shiro?" Asked Tai

"Uh- a rabbit! Yeah a white rabbit led me out of the forest!" Ruby said not knowing why she lied

"If you say so honey, let's get you home and take a bath you have leaves and dirt in your hair." Sumner said picking up Ruby

As they where making their way home Ruby took one last glance at the forest and saw Shiro waving goodbye at her

She looked surprised but smiled at Shiro nonetheless

After the trio where no longer at sight

Shiro put down his arm with sigh

"*Sigh~* A friend huh?" He said his voice filled with nostalgia and regret

"Am I really worthy having friends again after failing my last ones?" Shiro asked in no one particular as he went back to the forest
