The big surpise

Ever since I turned 4 I started having weird dreams about a girl who felt familiar, really familiar in the strangest way, growing up I realized those dreams were the horrific inherited memories of my past life. I was 6 when my adoptive parents decided to take me under their care, they weren't mean but they weren't particularly nice either but I didn't mind. Life in a decent house where I had enough books to spoil myself was enough for me but life took a wild turn when my foster mother got pregnant and gave birth to a little girl. I was 10 by that time, I was mesmerized by her cute giggles and tiny soft hands but mom never allowed me around her maybe because I was still too young to take care of a baby. Soon I started to disappear from their eyes and felt like a burden to them and if that wasn't enough Dad's business went down fall when I turned 17. I was a low-maintenance person so it was not a problem but my young sister Kesha hated it. I don't blame her she was 7 and she didn't deserve her lifestyle to be suddenly getting snatched away from her. I joined a part-time job and with whatever I could I provided for my family, eventually, we got used to the situation, and life was going as it was. My parents would take out their frustration on me and sometimes Kesha would call me weird names, it wasn't so bad because it has never been better. I just taught myself that life is never going to be easy, you just have to accept it and face it. Well as time went by, with the snow melting from every leaf of the pine trees it was time for spring break. Me and my best friend Alisha were resting under one of the pine trees enjoying our very few peaceful moments of ours. She was everything I ever had, I was too busy with my family issues that I never got to go out and have real friends but Alisha is all I got. I think Alisha noticed that I was drowning in the heights of my oceanic thought she shook me up to get my attention.

"Serenity! You are okay? " asked Alisha

" I'm fine don't worry just wondering how fast things change, I was just 5 when I met you in the orphanage and now we are 17 going on 18" I replied with a sad yet calm expression on my face. I think I might have said something way too serious because the next thing I know is my bff judging me like a dead hock staring right into my eyes and she went

" why are you looking at me like that? " I asked

" no you just sound as if the world is crashing down " replied Alisha "Wait!!! Are you sick? Something happened? Are we dying? " added Alisha with panic written all over her face

I don't know what was so funny about it but we both burst out into a peal of good laughter. Alisha has always been my everything, I could never possibly spend a day without her weird sense of humor. Time went by and our break time was over, I and Alisha both worked in a luxury restaurant as a part-time waitress. The pay was enough. I headed inside together with her and did my shift and in the evening we both headed our way back home. When I got back home the biggest surprise was waiting for me there. I took a seat next to the couch to sleep Kesha and asked my parents what was going on. My father explained how he took a loan from some lenders and since now he couldn't pay it he will have to find a way to sort things out. I sat there in a daze listening to it all and suggested dad to ask for some more time, I even suggested that I would work double shifts if that was necessary but my father looked me in the eyes, he rarely gave me the serious stare so I knew it was not about some hundreds. with all the courage in me, I asked

" how much is it Dad? "

with a sigh, my father blurted out " 20 million "

"What? " my jaw dropped to the ground and I felt my knees go numb.

" And... " added my father

" And what, dear? " asked my mother sitting next to Dad holding his palm gently in hers

" and if I won't be able to pay it off, they will send thugs " replied my father breaking down completely at that point.

a few minutes of silence fell in the room and after a few minutes my father looked up at me and said

" our only hope is you Serenity...."

" what can I do to help you out, Dad? "

" I will tell you later, but for now go get ready "

"Okay..." I replied with a thousand thoughts crashing my mind but I didn't complain Father rarely talked to me nicely and I did not want to mess that up.

I came out of my room wearing a slightly ruffled slip-black dress, my hair tied in a messy knot, and an old but decent oversized black coat. my father looked at me up and down along with my mother and the first thing he said after a minute of silence was

" that looks old "

" This is the nicest dress I have " I replied with embarrassment

" ahem— um dear, get Kesha and be in the car in 5 minutes," Dad said looking at mom

" sure " Mom replied hurrying up and carrying Kesha in her arms. I walked right behind my mother and held Kesha throughout the way. the whole way my father explained how his partner cheated the money they were supposed to invent in funds and so on. when I asked about what my father said earlier he told me to wait and relax while my mother handed me some water. I wasn't thirsty but I still drank a bit and I didn't realize when I fell asleep watching the dazzling night sky.

serenity spends a peaceful day along with his bff alisha but the biggest surprise hits her when she reached her house.
