  Scott stopped hugging me.

He gave me a few minutes to calm down and helped me get out of bed.

He sat me in the wheelchair.

"Are you ready? Lower your head so you won't be recognized in the hallway. If Stefan finds out about this, I'll have trouble with him," he warned. "And you too. Stefan will be angry."

"No matter what Stefan thinks. And don't worry, no one will notice. You said Stefan has gone home."

  "It's time," he said.

He took the wheelchair and began walking towards the exit, pushing me. We went out into the hallway. He walked quickly to avoid being discovered. I owed Scott one.

"I have to warn you about something, Kara," he cautioned as we crossed the hallway. Judging by the tone of his voice, I knew he would say something bad.

  "What? Don't scare me."

  "It's about Derek."

  "What's wrong?" I insisted.
