"What will we do if Derek comes to get her? What do I tell him?"
"We'll tell him she's not here. We'll say we have her somewhere else. We have to try to keep Kara from knowing the truth."
Sara assured me that she would follow my instructions to the letter.
"Are you sure it's because you want to be close to your children, Stefan? Or is it something else?" Sara asked. She looked at me with fear.
Sara wasn't foolish. She could see the truth in my eyes. But I couldn't admit it. I didn't want to generate more insecurities for her.
"It's because of that, Sara," I kissed her cheek again.
I wanted to go upstairs to take a shower, but Sara's voice stopped me.
