The Main Quest

For the next few minutes, I stare at the mirror.

I am Ezekiel Gavi. Although I look a lot younger right now, I am without a doubt currently living in the body of Ezekiel Gavi.

As for why I am in Daril's house? Well... let's just say we were good friends who grew up together. From what I can remember, city life was too expensive so Ezekiel and I shared an apartment.

We both grew up in an orphanage, so we didn't have any parents. That's why we were extremely close. Also, I couldn't comprehend why he betrayed me. As for now, I am clueless about how this happened. Where is the "past" Ezekiel's soul? Did I take the body from him or what?

But those thoughts are gone for the time being. I need to plan what to do now. I have my phone on me so I quickly check the time and find it is the morning of February 22. There is no time to lose. Doomsday will happen in a week and the system will start-

||System rebooting...1%||

Wait what the fuck. Why is this thing here? I thought the system didn't exist till Doomsday began.

There is no denying it. That pale blue system window is opened right in front of me, giving off the wretched hue that illuminated my time in the void. Although I've seen it long enough to hate it for starting this whole mess, it is kind of reassuring to know that I am not alone in this world and that my previous life wasn't some dream.

As I wait for the system to finish loading. I sit down on the toilet lid and begin planning. The next week needs to be planned out carefully, and any mistake can cost me my life.

Doomsday signified a big change in humanity. While we were once at the apex of the food chain. The invasion from the angels and demons showed that we were but a fly in the vast universe, just way too small for anybody to care at the time. In the face of such enemies, we could not put up any fight.

Although the name does signify doomsday, humanity wasn't left to die. Humans did start getting the ability to awaken abilities. The beginning of the system marked the end of a normal life and started a new era based on power.

Human abilities become awakened for people who have a particular talent or skill in something. Becoming awakened means that a skill or talent has become recognized by the system. For most adults, it is quite common, as jobs usually require a certain proficiency in some sort of skill one way or another. The most common skills or abilities gained are "permanent". Meaning they cannot be destroyed or improved upon.

But as mentioned, talent is also recognized by the system. If a person has the potential to create a skill, the system can also grant the skill "prematurely". These types of skills are rare, as some people cannot gain these even with years of dedication towards an activity. They are essentially growth-type skills, skills that start weak but have almost limitless potential.

But their limitless potential is also their fatal weakness. These skills can also decrease in effectiveness. Whether it's the lack of dedication and proficiency over time or a serious injury, the level or evolution of the skill can degrade.

There are also two types of skills, passive and active. Passive skills give mainly stats that can improve the overall condition of an awakened while the active skills are consumable skills that either come with a penalty or a cooldown for their usage. Consumable skills can be multi-use or single-use. My ultimate skills prepared in the previous life were all consumable skills, high in destruction but lacking in re-usability.

When the system finishes booting up, I look to see if there are any changes. I'm not sure what skills are still usable or if my skills from my previous life existed at all.

|| Status

Name: Ezekiel Gavi

Status: Hungover

Race: Human

Health: 15/15

Stamina: 10/10

Intelligence: 25 (-10)

Strength: 5 (-10)

Agility: 5 (-10)

Ability: Resilience (D-Growth), Schemer (E-Growth), Stubborn (D)||

My stats are horrible. The average male adult will have between 20 to 30 in every aspect. Ezekiel was not fit to begin with, and now that he drunk the previous night, the stats are far worse than a normal person's because of the debuff.

The only noticeable area of this status window is the ability. Resilience is definitely the ability I am rewarded after spending time in the void. Stubborn and schemer seem to be Ezekiel's original talent/skill. But I wouldn't call stubbornness a skill... it's probably something he's developed over time after hanging out with me.

The bonuses, however, were helpful.

||Resilience (Passive)

Become resistant to ailments affecting the mind.

Intelligence +10

Resistance +10

Fortitude +10||

||Schemer (Passive)

You meticulously plan your every step.

Intelligence +10||

||Stubborn (Passive)

You stick to your decisions.

Intelligence +5

Resistance +5||

Overall, these abilities improved my intelligence by nearly double. If it weren't for my terrible attributes, I would have already had the strength of a full awakened (even though I am).

For some people, awakenings can come in crucial/life-threatening situations, where they go beyond their capabilities and breakthrough. However, they usually end up far weaker than a normal awakened, which seems to be the case here.

Damn you Ezekiel.

Now that I am here, I need to come up with a new plan, so humanity does not suffer a second time.

As I sit on the toilet lid, Daril, or myself I should say, knocks on the door, clearly impatient as it's been over 20 minutes since I entered the bathroom.

"Hey, you're taking a while. I really need to go-"

Annoyed, I got up from the toilet lid. Was the me from 20 years ago really that bothersome? I open the bathroom door and glare at Daril, whose face is mere inches away from mine. I cough and begin to excuse myself when a system prompt shows up again, this time in yellow.
