Reincarnation of a Failed Author: I Hate Clichés

"I hate clichés," I mutter under my breath, frustration etching lines on my face as I stare at yet another overused plot blowing up on the website of the novel I'm publishing. It's a constant cycle of disappointment for me, with no viewers, no readers, and certainly no feedback. In other words, I'm a failed author, stuck in a rut of uninspired storytelling. I can't quite recall when my disdain for cliché tropes first took root, but one thing is for certain— I found myself reincarnated into another world after an unfortunate encounter with a truck. Typical, right? I die in a cliché manner and end up in a whole new reality. "Damn it, I had to go and die in a cliché way too!" I grumble, shaking my head at the irony of it all. But this time, I have a new name, a new body, and even magical powers to boot. I'm now known as Helis, and this is my chance at a fresh start. After hearing the name of the world I had reincarnated into, Crisyes, I realized it was the world of the novel I had only written the concept about. It seems I've been thrust into the world that is on its last living decades. The details elude me, but I'm certain of one thing—this world is on a collision course with chaos. What I didn't anticipate, however, were the lingering threads of my previous life, the invisible connections that bind me to Earth. These mysterious [Story] strings will come back to haunt me, weaving a web of uncertainty and challenges that I'll have to navigate sooner or later. I may despise clichés, but little did I know that I would become entangled in a story far beyond my control. It's a tale where my past and present collide, and only time will reveal the true extent of its consequences. ------Notice------ THE STORY WILL TAKE TIME TO BUILD! Yes, it will start as a normal reincarnation story with cliché elements and cringe events, but the energy will shift at the last chapter of the first volume. The story will focus more on the development of the characters and world-building, not just, "Wow, found a golden cup which I'll drink from and become immortal." No, I will make it as realistic as possible, especially the characters. Oh, and the mc has a knack to trigger cliché events, that's one of the reasons he hates them. If you care about horny chapters, they do happen but later on when the time is right. That's it here, please support me through this journey, and most importantly: Enjoy!

Bygone Contemporaries, III

{Author's Note: There are some disturbing scenes in this chapter, don't say I didn't warn you :P!}

Mai Sakaguchi POV:

We introduced ourselves (the Korean and American people whom I also didn't know) and so far we weren't getting anywhere. There were three other guys that we found here in this place called a dungeon that had appeared back at the Moxie Desert.

The disappearance of the gate that we passed to get here managed to get all of the members shocked, besides the trio who didn't know that there was a gate like that back there to begin with.

I started to panic, but that wasn't the right way to take in our current situation, right, Mai, breathe, take deep breaths.

Suddenly.

Kcha-schlap-plap.

A noise was heard, something being cut, and something being spilled…

As soon as that realization hit me, I looked behind to see Michael's neck gushing out crimson liquid, and behind him, was Elijah Langston, the particular gloomy guy that had daggers and a set of screwdrivers.

The first to react to the event was the black-haired boy, Helis who widened his eyes as he called out his name, "Elijah…"

He didn't say anything after but just stared at him with wide and devoid eyes.

"Kyaa!?"

A scream was heard from the Korean group's women.

Because of the fear, I already found myself panting.

"Hah…" I can't breathe properly, I can't hear anything, i-is my heart beating this loud? I thought to myself as a ring was taking over my senses.

"Fuck, why did you do this?!" I heard Aoi's questioning scream as he rushed towards him, evading his dagger swing and pushing Elijah down to the ground, now on top of him.

"We're in a desert here, aren't we?" Elijah said so quietly and then continued, "Wasn't my choice the better one, we don't have enough food here, neither do we have water, so, what's the better choice?" He finished in a crackling voice.

"What-? No that's… not…" Aoi on top of him seemed to be lost for words.

Soon after I heard some voices saying, "Isn't he right?" or something akin to that, then Elijah spoke again.

"Am I not correct? Fewer mouths to feed, more food for us, so obviously we gotta get rid of the useless ones!" He grinned.

"Kghu-" Aoi looked down to his stomach, soon after blood trickled down his mouth and his eyes widened with shock, or should I say anger too?

"Haha, you dumb idiot, did you forget I have the screwdrivers too?" Elijah pushed Aoi, now weak from the wound on his liver, and got on top of him, stabbing him mercilessly on his body, face, chest, brain, arms, and basically everywhere on his torso.

Terrific screams were heard at the beginning from Aoi, but soon after his body went limp and the only noises left were the ones from the screwdriver still stabbing him.

"You fucking monster!" I heard Valen's howl as he punched Elijah in the face. Blowing him away around five to six meters.

"Oh wow, Mr. Valen, you sure packed a punch there," Elijah picked himself up, not even a scrape visible on his face. Soon after he sprinted towards Valen, like a black panther, with the dagger he picked back up.

Valen swung his fist towards him but Elijah swirled around his body somehow that I couldn't grasp it with my untrained eyes. Soon after he jumped away from Valen's body, and a second later blood came gushing out all over his arm only for it to fall piece by piece like severed parts of cow meat.

"Kghaa-!" an intense screech was heard, slowly, Elijah made his way back in front of Valen.

A smirk was visible on his face as he started to talk with a voice full of excitement, shivering even, "Ah, Valen, how exciting this is, to the point that it's turning me on, ahh, but well I must say…"

He grabbed Valen's hair and pulled it close to his face, eyes of a psychopath in his face, panting as he said, "May this chaos never stop."

And then a 'Schlack' noise was heard as he severed Valen's head.

"No, please, don't kill me, I'll do anything!" A woman from the korean group screeched out in fear of the guy in their own party that approached her with his spear in clutch.

Soon after, chaos was brimming all over the people around me, comrade killing comrade, unknown attacking unknown. The slaughter was unstoppable.

What is this hell, why am I here?

Fuck I don't wanna die, I wanna go home.

But there's no time for that, quick I must withdraw from here! My body was already moving backward thoughtlessly so I was quite close to a dune's downhill, I quickly ran and jumped there.

Bluerghhhh--

I puked and I puked, after seeing all that gore, smelling all that blood, how could anyone not barf out everything they've eaten?

"Kgha– Calm down, Mai, think rationally," I muttered quietly to myself.

What's the best choice here? Should I wait until they all kill each other? No, I shouldn't do that. Do I run away? No, I shouldn't run away, I don't know what things exist here.

Agh, I am not good at thinking stuff like this, let's just go out there, if someone attacks me, I'll attack back, I have my katana on me.

Soon after I got up in the dune, after gazing at the bloodied scene, I could see three boys standing.

They seemed to be together the whole time, and trusted each other, compared to the Korean group that slaughtered one another, I noticed a silhouette hiding behind them.

I squinted my eyes.

Ah, it's Maki! I couldn't contain how happy I was.

"Maki, Maki! Thank god, thank god you're alive and well." I ran towards her, tears streaming down my face.

When she heard my voice, she sprinted towards me as well, I hugged her, I cried, and I bawled in her hold.

"Thank you, guys, for protecting my dear friend! Bwaa!" I said with snot coming out of my nose and with another wave of crying washing over me again.

The trio seemed relieved.

"Okay, now grab and do first-aid on the wounded people," I heard the black-haired, Helis, whom I thought of as dead weight earlier, giving orders to his friends.

Schwamp.

The noise of someone kicking off from the sand was heard, and the next instant Helis pushed me out of the way.

"Ouch, what was that f—" I was about to complain, but I couldn't form any more words as I saw Helis being stabbed by Elijah, whose face and body were already distorted by cuts, stabs, and more wounds.

"Hmph!" Sean kicked him, sending him tumbling somewhere, his body shivered for a bit and soon after went limp.

Was that his last effort to kill someone? The drive he had to kill people was what kept him alive until now, it seems.

Soon after Helis started to fall, I moved quickly and got a hold of him.

He was panting… "Q-Quick someone, the b-bleeding, someone hurry up!" I started to panic yet again, seeing the wound and how he had put his life on the line for me.

"Kgh- hah," He brought his hand to my face and caressed my cheek, as his eyes already seemed to blur he said, "I just lost you once, I couldn't risk losing you again, Selica–…"

We have finally entered the new arc and the new volume with the conclusion of this chapter.

I hope the people who weren't feeling the story so far have gotten enticed and will continue with their reading, for they're about to witness peak fiction.
