Another Monster To Deal With

The Arks lean towards problems that involve Mages or Magecraft gone wrong to hurt the common masses, while the Mafia deals with the rotten eggs of society. But the Mafia's methods can sometimes be underhanded or biased, even being downright cruel.

I became more suspicious when Vincent told me about his affiliation with the Mafia. And as we walked towards our destination, I had another thought... And it wasn't a good one.

"I feel that this random Mission of yours isn't for your interest or looting... Instead, you are seeking the Four Beasts for the Mafia's interests, aren't you?" I questioned, halting my steps and placing my hands on my hips.

Vincent stopped walking and turned around to face me. I wasn't moving until I got an answer because I wouldn't say I like being used or lied to.

"Speak up, or I'm turning back."

"Turning back? To the Arks?"

"No, but you should know better than anyone that I hate being in the dark about our true objectives..."

Vincent sighed as he walked toward me while shaking his head. He then rested both hands on my shoulders and hung his head down. The silence was deafening, and I wanted to push Vincent away, but he spoke up first.

"Okay... Do you know that this world is a mix of our old one's legends and myths? There are mythical monsters like your pet and Tiamat running around here, right?"'

"Ya, judging by the fact I've defeated a Qilin... What's your point?"

"You know about Greek Myths? Medusa, the cursed Earth Goddess? Just imagine her bigger than the Qilin and having her body fused with her dungeon. The true monster of the Shapeless Isle... Gorgon. Unfortunately, I must deal with that now if things pick up."

Huh? What now? Medusa? The same snakehead monster from Greek Myths? What is this, all around the world's myths and legends game? Nani the f-

"Okay, before you go judging the Mafia and me, just know that we had our reason and-"

"Nah man, tell me how the hell you managed to stir beef against a monster that can turn you into a hashtag?! It must be something that pisses her off, or she got triggered during her sleeping hours," I shouted, scaring the woodland creatures.

Vincent blinked slowly before letting go of my shoulders and arching his back.

"Listen, we didn't know we had intruded on her territory. And frankly, the entire island doesn't have a single being. But, when we sent dogs to search the area, the animals refused to leave the boat. So we stepped foot on the place, and we ventured around."

"However, we had to leave when we saw human statues with strands of hair everywhere. It grossed us out," explained Vincent, trying to convince me they did nothing wrong.

"Hello? Why were you releasing a bunch of dogs into a foreign land?! What did you possibly hope to gain from invading another person's land?" I asked, still getting angrier at the man.

"We seriously didn't know that we got the Gorgon riled up, and now we have to deal with the consequences. The best part is that the Gorgon has manifested within the Five Domains instead of a real home, which should be where Greece is," explained Vincent.

"What? So where is the island you've invaded, and where did Gorgon appear at?"

"The island we had investigated is after the Unknown forests at the bottom of the Five Domains. If you remember where our world's Greece was, we parked our ship at one of the many islands in the area. However, the Gorgon appeared at the Eastern Borders of the Teuton Domain."

"In one of the many caves that the Domain has... And she's angrily trying to take in prisoners for 'invading her land.' "

"Of course! You invaded her home, so she decided to come into yours without knocking! What do you expect?! An open house party?! Dude... You can't be that naive!"

"I expected her to stay in her Isle! And for the record, I didn't know the Gorgon could leave that island... Wasn't she cursed or something? I'm sure I've read that Medusa and two of her sisters were forced into that uninhabited island by a jealous Athena, right?" questioned Vincent.

"That's correct, and if you are saying that you are dealing with the true form of Gorgon... That means it's the version of Medusa that already devoured her two sisters. This makes things difficult a thousand times because she's already gone to the dark side."

"No amount of reason can get the Gorgon to stop her rampage if she does get out of her cave. A poor girl being cursed for nothing and giving into her darkest desires. However, the one you've seen could be her ghost or something."
