Chapter 70

Vorbuk stood as still as a statue staring at the local Guild building. As hungry as he was for some real food that did not mean his mind stopped turning over the many uses for his newly gained ability. In the span of time standing there on the street many adventurers had walked in and out of the Cista guild building.

As much as I want to deny it... It really would come in use down the road if I had a form of attachment to this world in my human form as well... Vorbuk thought to himself as he stood there for a moment longer in silence. He could see the strange looks of people who knew how long he had been standing there staring at the building. Those who didn't paid him no attention or would respectfully give him a bow as if he was a royal to one of the twelve kingdoms in the realm.

Finally making up his mind to go through with the idea he had in mind. He pushed open the door and stepped into the guild. The lady behind the counter was a beautiful elf girl. At the sight of him stepping inside the building her face seemed to faintly flush at the sight of him. Though it did not take long for her to pull herself together. Simply clearing her throat with a forced, quiet, cough.

"Can I help you?" The elf girl asked as he neared the counter.

"Yes. I'd like to obtain a Guild ID?" He said to her with a questioning tone. Vorbuk had never obtained something on his own before in this world. It was something he would have to get used to over time but the sooner he took care of this small task the better. If he did not and used his human form in the wrong place without a form of ID he could use in this world it could become dangerous. The last thing he needed was to be mistaken in one of the kingdoms as a dangerous person.

Over the span of time he spent filling out a simple sheet of paper for his ID he could feel the eyes of others on him from behind. There was no mistaking it. Adventurers could not stop themselves from pondering over who he was. Due to the way his clothing naturally formed itself when he shifted into a human he gave off the aura of a royal, or possibly higher.

"Why is someone of such standing applying to be an adventurer?"

"Does he even know what kind of work adventurers do?"

"He looks like a prince from one of the neighboring kingdoms."

Due to his strong sense of hearing it was easy for their words to reach Vorbuk's ears. Their remarks did not bother him and so they simply played on deaf ears. Not a single reaction came from Vorbuk to respond to their harsh assumptions of him. Being a companion wolf for so long now he had grown use to others talking about him when they assumed he could not hear or understand what was going on around him.

"Oh? Your name is... Vorbuk?" She double checked the name while handing over an ID bracelet to him. The bracelet was black in color but when taken to a check point at villages or businesses that required an ID a small image would appear to display the information that had been applied to it.

"Yes. It is." He replied to her. It felt strange talking to another living being other than the Crown Prince Leo.

"Sir, it will be 5 silver for your ID." She said as she slid the bracelet towards him on the counter with a kind smile. The kindness she showed was enough to make Vorbuk feel a sense of warmth in his chest. It had been too long since he had felt human contact even if it was just a simple conversation. Though the realization of her words was enough to shatter that feeling instantly.

Money! Shit! Vorbuk cursed himself inwardly as he realized that he had no way to pay for the ID. He had assumed he would not have come across a problem when getting an ID for an adventurer. His reality was much more complicated. The look of panic and confusion on Vorbuk's face was easily noticeable.

Ting! Ting!

The sound of falling silver coins could be heard as someone dropped five silver coins onto the guild's counter.

"I'll help him pay for it." Their voice sounded familiar causing Vorbuk to raise his head and look.

"You-!" Vorbuk started to speak but was quickly quieted by the man placing a finger to his lips. This simple yet silent action was enough to instantly quiet him.

"How long do you plan on running from me? An hour? The whole day? Or do you simply plan on not returning at all? The way you left me behind... Tsk..." Crown Prince Leo clicked his tongue against his teeth as if he felt insulted at the fact that Vorbuk had rushed out the window without saying a word to him earlier.

He did not know what to say to the prince. Without a word of refusal he accepted the aid of the prince in order to pay for the Guild's ID. Making him an official adventurer.

With a new form of ID as an adventurer in his hand the two of them quickly and quietly removed themselves from the guild. The air about them felt heavy and awkward to them both. Neither one of them knew what to say to fix the situation.

"How did you know it was me?" Vorbuk asked first in order to break the silence and begin the long conversation he knew the prince wanted to have with him. It was obvious to him that there were some things the prince was not going to simply let go that easily until he knew the truth.

"What?" Prince Leo felt stupefied by the question that he was being asked.

Has he seriously forgotten? Did this beast forget? Prince Leo thought to himself while staring intently at the human form of Vorbuk in front of him.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Vorbuk sighed heavily as he waited for the prince to give him an answer.

"Vorbuk... have you seriously forgotten what some of my abilities are? Of course I saw through you the moment I saw you. The other two didn't realize it was you, but I did. I can read your status window whenever I want to." Prince Leo stated out firmly.

When they had first met each other after Vorbuk came to this world the prince had indeed once read his status window to find out that he was not an owned companion. That was how they had partnered up in order to aid each other while they both traversed the kingdoms together. After all the time they had spent together Vorbuk had temporarily forgotten about the very day they met.

How could I forget something like that? Vorbuk sighed to himself as he realized he had forgotten something so simple about the prince. Was it due to stress? Or something else that caused him to forget something like that?

"How about we discuss some thing while we eat. I left the others back at the inn." Prince Leo said before turning to walk away without waiting for Vorbuk to respond. The action gave him no room to refuse. Yet given how hungry he was he would have followed for real food regardless.
